No. 5842- 31, Cases Nos. 497 ( Vol. XXI.), Supplement A, and 270 ( Vol. XXI.), SupplementJB, whose arrest has not yet been effected for failing to report. Warrant issued. Inf. to above office. Wednesday, February 27, 1935. THE POLICE GAZETTE. Persons Wanted. 1.— Criminal Record Office.— For embezzlement, swindling and contracting debts negligently, at Vienna in 1934. Obtained possession of carpets, which he sold to his own benefit.— Robert Igler, b. ( Vienna) 1896, a merchant. It is noted for inf., that, in the event of his apprehension, preliminary steps for a request for his extradition have been taken. Ref. GR/ 235/ FOR/ 339. Warrant issued. Inf. to above office. 2.— G Division, M. P. D.— For obtaining goods by false pretences on 20th September, 1934. Obtained a ring, valued £ 100, from a jeweller, for which he paid £ 15 cash and gave a cheque for £ 85, which was later returned marked Refer to Drawer. The cheque is No. 008181, on Lloyd's Bank, Ltd., South Kensington Branch, and was issued to a man giving the name of F. S. Bowman. The photograph of a man giving the nam of Frank Collins, in possession of passport No. L. 047783, issued at Liverpool on 25- 9- 34, has been identified as that of the man who obtained the ring as above. Is known to be in America, where he has uttered similar worthless cheques. He may return to this country at any time, and special attention of officers on duty at Ports is requested. Photograph is copy of that on passport.— Sidney Bowman, aliases Lewis Davis and Ginger Harris, b. ( London) 1897, music hall artiste, 5ft. Pin., well built, c. fresh, h. fair, e. blue, clean shaven ; may be wearing horn rimmed spectacles. Believed identical wi h Sydney Williams, C. R. O. No. 2203- 14. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. 3.— M Division, M. P. D.— For larceny ( trick) on 23rd inst. Loser advertised for sale a Singer car. He was called on by wanted man who s id he was Doctor Kaye, of St. Thomas's Hospital, and after a trial of the car agreed to buy it for £ 33, tut would have to return to the hospital for the money. When they reached the hospital steps loser was asked if he could lend him £ 2, as he ( the doctor) wanted to pay a small debt to an attendant; he would then return with 7 £ 5 notes 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. ( London) 1908, tailor, 5ft. 8^ in, very heavy build, c. fresh, h. black, e. brown, scar 1st 1. finger, Jewish appearance ; dress, spring coat ( reddish- brown, small belt fitted on back, no slit in back), grey cloth trousers, black brogue shoes, no hat. Pre. con. of fraud and larceny at SOUTHEND and on C, F and N. Inf. to C. R. O. 4.— S Division, M. P. D.— For larceny— servant, and embezzlement, on 15th inst. Whilst employed as an errand boy was given £ 1 for the purpose of giving change to customers, and absconded. It was afterwards ascertained that he had embezzled £ 3 12s. 2d. received for and on behalf of his employers.— Leonard Johnson, C. R. O. No. 20604- 31, b. ( Swinton, Yorks.) 1915, an errand boy or haulage hand, 4ft. llin, sturdy build, c. fresh, h. and e. brown. Pre. con. of larceny at ROTHERHAM. May be found in the company of Edward Thorp ( not wanted), b. 1916. Inf. to C. R. O. 5.— S Division, M. P. D.— For housebreaking at Hendon, 17th inst. ( breaking a pane of glass in dining room window at rear and releasing catch) and stealing gent's gold hunter watch, Longines make, English figures on dial, lever movement; lady's silver ring, set square onyx; fine link gold neckchain, round pink stone in gold frame attached ; yellow leather case, containing stainless steel manicure set; nickel plated torch in form of a pencil ; number of Swiss silver coins ; 2 blank cheques issued by Barclay's Bank, Ltd, Bell Corner, Hendon, Nos. 2908 over 15 and 16.— Hubert Arthur Bessent, C. R. O. No. 10235- 33, b. ( London) 1892, a painter and decorator, 5ft. 11 Jin., c. sallow, h. dk. brown, e. blue, dk. moustache, scar back cf 1. thumb. Pre. con. of housebreaking and larceny at BOURNEMOUTH, BRISTOL and GLOUCESTER. Inf. to C. R. O. BERKSHIRE. 6— Abingdon ( Co.).— For larceny ( lodger). Was employed as farm labourer at Frilford. On 23rd inst. entered employer's house, during his temporary absence, by unlocking door with key which had been hidden, and stole gent's raincoat, fawn, name The Doris Coat on tab inside collar ; gent's sports coat, brown mixture, nearly new, believed name Fifty Shilling Tailors tab on collar ( both fit man 5ft. 7 or 8in.) ; melodian, make unknown ; Ever Ready torch, adjustable lens, about lOin. long ; plated cycle pump, Renshaw make.— Jack Bennett, b. ( believed Portsmouth) 1917, farm labourer or baker, 5ft. 6 or 7in, medium build, c. freckled, h. auburn, slightly bow- legged ; dress, brown tweed jacket, blue waistcoat and trousers, red pullover, black boots, usually no hat but may be wearing grey cap, short oilskin leggings. Is in possession of a gent's B. S. A. cycle, single speed, brown rubber grips, Ever Ready lamp on front, Safety First white flap and reflector on rear. Inf. to Supt, Abingdon. , • » CAMBRIDGESHIRE ( ISLE OF ELY). 7.— Wisbech ( Co.).— For stealing 5s. 7d. from his lodgings, consisting of two half- crowns, sixpence and one penny, 24th or 25th inst. The money was taken from a purse inside a lady's handbag in the house in which he was lodging. He got up early on the morning of 25th inst, left the house, and has not been seen since.— Charles Thcmas Upton, C. R. O. No. 2239- 27, b. ( Poplar ( L.) ) 1903, shop assistant, 5ft. 7 jin, medium build, c. dk, h. dk. brown, e. brown ( scar over 1.) ; dress, double- breasted brown overcoat, pepper and salt jacket, flannel trousers, two pullovers ( one blue and white check, one brown mixture), black shoes, no hat, white silk scarf. Pre. con. of larceny, shopbreaking, housebreaking and warehousebreaking at LIVERPOOL, SOUTHEND, WISBECH and on K. It is believed he may have obtained a lift on a lorry to London. CHESHIRE. 8.— Congleton ( Boro.).— For leaving his wife chargeable on 8th ult— Harry Bennett, b. ( Marple) 1898, a labourer, 5ft. 5in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue, bullet wound 1. forearm. May be found working on farms. Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. C., Congleton. CORNWALL. 9.— Truro ( Co.).—- For obtaining £ 250 by false pretences. During September, 1934, inserted an advert, in the Western Morning News, to the effect that a " Working partner was required in business as a Sports Ground Contractor, Apply Box No." Loser replied to the advert, and as a result of correspondence between him and the wanted man, a supposed partnership agreement was drawn up, produced by the wanted man and signed by both men over a 6d. postage stamp, and as a result of this agreement, in November, 1934, loser handed over £ 250. Since this money was paid over, wanted man has not been seen. Represents himself to be an architect, but from information has traded as cattle dealer for some time.— Thomas Alfred Hoskin, C. R. O. No. 22066- 21, b. ( Wadebridge, Cornwall) 1895, 5ft. 10in., well built, c. sallow, h. dk. brown, e. hazel ( often wears horn rimmed glasses), Jewish appearance, good teeth, clean shaven ; dress ( usually), brown plus four suit, brown shoes. Is the registered owner of Hillman motor car, TR- 6229, licensed at Plymouth, and he was in possession of this car on 23rd inst. when seen in Plymouth. Pre. con. of larceny at STRATTON. DEVONSHIRE. 10.— Exeter ( City).— For housebreaking ( climbing through lavatory window at rear of premises— window kept closed by its own weight; was disturbed by return ot occupier and made his escape; marks on window at rear of house by screwdriver or similar instrument | in. wide), 26th inst., and stealing lady's gold engagement ring, 3 small diamonds set in platinum in a row ; gent's gold wrist watch, dk. brown leather strap with gold buckle, round watch, white dial, black English figures, figure 12 in red, black seconds hand, noticeable scratch on glass ; string of imitation pearls, graduated, f- length, 9ct. clasp.— A Man, b. about 1905, 5ft. 8in., thick set build, c. flushed, h. medium colour ; dress, It. colour raincoat, heavy footwear, no hat. Inf. to C. C., Exeter. DORSETSHIRE. 11.— Weymouth ( Co.).— Man.— A. Vincent, Case No. 3, 23- 2- 35, is identical with Alec Vincent, C. R. O. No. 18489- 30, for description, etc., see Case No. 16 current issue. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt., Weymouth. DURHAM. 12.— Darlington ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 100 by false pretences, between 13th and 17th inst. Complainant advertised in newspaper " Partnership wanted, about £ 200." Wanted man answered advertisement, stating that he would only accept £ 100, and that he would pay complainant a fixed salary of £ 3 10s. per week and 10 per cent, interest on the £ 100. Stated he was a business agent and was interested in various picture halls throughout England, and that complainant's work was to assist in the managing of these various halls. He said that he owned the Ace of Spades Revue Company ( false). Complainant, believing story to be true, gave wanted man a Barclay's Bank cheque for £ 100, made payable to John Gilbert, wanted man afterwards i t THE POLICE GAZETTE. Thursday, February 28, 1935. PERSONS WANTED— continued. asked householder to cash cheque for him. Cheque was cashed on 21st inst. and wanted man was handed 75 £ 1 notes, 40 10s. notes and £ 5 in silver. Accompanied by wife and child, left their lodgings about half an hour after receiving money and have not been seen or heard of since. — John Gilbert, b. about 1902, 5ft. 8 or 9in., medium build, c. pale, h. very fair ( wavy, brushed back and thick at front), thin face, sunken jaws, clean shaven ( may grow a moustache), South Country accent, plausible and appears to be well educated, stated that he was a business agent and that he had just come from Birmingham, always talked about theatres and cinemas as if he was connected with them ; dress, medium grey coloured suit with narrow white dotted stripe, white soft collar, dk. coloured tie, very dk. grey or black overcoat, black and white striped scarf, brown kid gloves, brown shoes, It. grey Trilby or It. grey cap. Smart appearance. Accompanied by his wife ( not wanted), Madeline Gilbert, b. about 1904, 5ft. 3 or 4in., medium build, c. fresh, h. sandy ( permanent waved), thin face, sunken jaws, hps heavily coloured with lipstick, pointed nose, toes turn inwards when walking, South Country accent; dress, long fawn coloured smooth face cloth coat ( stand up collar, belt attached, large pockets), small black astrachan hat, black astrachan gloves, may be wearing brown leather or brown suede shoes. Smart appearance; and child, Pauline Joy Gilbert, aged 3 yrs., h. dk. brown, very good talker ; dress, fawn coat and pull- ups, tam- o'- shanter with an ornamental dog brooch pinned at one side. Gilbert had correspondence with manager, Theatre Royal, Seaham Harbour, and the secretary, Falkirk Electric Theatres, Falkirk, and will no doubt write to other theatre proprietors. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt., Darlington. ESSEX. 13.— Romford ( Co.).— Adverting to Case No. 12, 25- 2- 35. Man— Painter. Additional inf. :] Warrant ' issued. Inf. to Supt., Romford. HAMPSHIRE. 14.— Petersfield ( Co.).— For false pretences. On or about the 25th October, 1934, visited a public house and offered to sell a motor car he had with him to the landlord, stating he had an offer to buy a Bentley car from naval officer who had to leave the country hurriedly, and wanted money to make the deal. The landlord bought car which was later seized by firm of motor dealers of whom wanted man had it on hire purchase, there being £ 45 owing on it. Landlord paid wanted man £ 31 3s. Wanted man stated car was his own.— George D'Courtenay, b. 1905, stated printer's traveller, 6ft. 1 or 2in., slim build, c. fair, h. believed fair, e. believed blue, fair toothbrush moustache, plausible, frequents public houses and treats strangers who may be in bars ; dress, black jacket and waistcoat, striped trousers, spats, black shoes or boots. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt., Petersfield. 15.— Portsmouth ( City).— Case No. 8, 6- 1- 30, cancelled. William Underwood not now wanted. 16.— Winchester ( City).— For false pretences. Called on loser on 19th inst., representing he was a traveller for Messrs. Carfax Card Co., 16, Bruton Place, New Bond Street, W. l ( false), and obtained 5s. 6d. for 100 visiting cards.— Alec Vincent, C. R. O. No. 18489- 30, Case No. 13, 25- 2- 35, b. ( Isleworth) 1903, a traveller or salesman, 5ft. 9 or 10in., c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. hazel ( scar below rt.), clean shaven, good natural teeth which are prominent when he smiles, mole back of neck and 1. upper arm ; dress, brown plus four suit, brown mixture pullover, Trilby hat.
