The following persons who have already appeared in Supplement A have been re- convicted as follows— John McKerns, Case No. 3 ( Vol. II.), was sentenced as John Alexander Lewis at Thames PoL Ct. ( L.), 5- 11- 1927, to 1 and 1 mo. ( conc.) and recommended for deportation for landing without permission of an Immigration Officer and failing to register as an alien, i/ 400. Henry Russell, Cases Nos. 348 ( Vol. II.), and 376 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as Reginald Edward Billson at Bristol Ass., 7- 11- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen., 12,12 and 12 mos. impt, ( conc.) for obtaining a valuable security ( a cheque), by false pretences, attempted false pretences, forging a document, and uttering a forged document, Advertised in a local paper for manager of a loan office, represented himself to be a money lender, a private enquiry and commission agent, produced a letter purporting to be a banker's reference on headed notepaper of a well known bank, having removed certain writing on the letter by chemicals, leaving the manager's signature and typing in a reference on his own behalf. By this means he obtained a cheque for £ 50 from a person who applied for the situation. He was accompanied by his daughter Kathleen Hilda Billson, who was charged with him but dis- charged. Cases of a similar nature at Chester, Leeds, Newcastle- upon- Tvne and Birmingham were ^ taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Used the name of Lawrence Haynes. 401. William Henry Williamson Barraclough. Cases Nos. 41 ( Vol. IV.), and 180 ( Vol. XIV.), was sen- tenced as William Henry Clarke at Reading Sess., 17- 11- 1927, to 12 mos. impt. for stealing an over- coat from a motor car. left unattended. Five other cases of false pretences and larceny at Hudders- field, Derby, Nottingham and Wakefield, were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. In one of these he stole a coat from a stand at hotel. Used the name of Pat Collins. J Thomas Kimber, Case No. 55 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced at Brentford P. Sess. ( L.), 11- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for being a suspected person ( loitering). </ 402. Thomas McNeish, Case No. 93 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced as Thomas Wainscott at Doncaster P. Sess., 14- 11- 1927, to 6 and 6 mos. impt. ( conc.) for larceny ( lodgings) and obtaining food by false pretences. Obtained lodgings by posing as a professional footballer, and stole money from the clothes of a fellow lodger. George Gooding, Case No. 25 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at West Ham Pol. Ct. ( L.), 14- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for being a suspected person, loitering ( attempting to pick pockets). Stephen House Bowey, Case No. 144 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at Stockton Pol. Ct., 28- 10- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing money. 403. Horace Turner, Case No. 169 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as John Taylor at Clerkenwell Pol. Ct. ( L.), 14- 11- 1927, to 1 mo. impt. for larceny, trick ( ringing the changes). / J Alfred Williams, Case No. 206 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at C. C. C., 16- 11- 1927, to 21 mos. impt. for housebreaking. Method as in original case. Walter Beard, C. R. O. No. 1716- 1907, was convicted with him. l/ John Thomas, Case No. 342 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at Ipswich P. Sess., 3- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for being found by night with housebreaking implements. 404. Frederick James, Case No. 169 ( Vol. VI.), was sentenced as Arthur Allison at Marylebone Pol. Ct. ( L.), 2- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt, for being a suspected person, loitering ( confidence trick). David Laird Aitken, C. R. O. No. S/ 80464, was convicted with him. ,/ Benjamin Hampson, Case No. 295 ( Vol. VI.), was sentenced at Manchester ( City) Pol. Ct,, 2- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for larceny ( person). Stole wallet from a person's pocket at tram stopping place. James McVittie, Case No. 317 ( Vol. VI.), was sentenced at Liverpool ( Co.) P. Sess., 15- 11- 1927, to 3 and 3 mos. impt. ( cons.) for false pretences ( 2 cases). Method as in ( iii) original case. A similar case at Durham was taken into consideration when sentence was passed. ^ Cyril Vernon Trott, Case No. 71 ( Vol. VII.). The term of imprisonment as shown in issue of 18- 11- 1927 was reduced to 18 mos. impt. by Court of Criminal Appeal, 24- 10- 1927. J 405. Margaret Jane Richardson, Case No. 182 ( Vol. VII.), was sentenced as Teresa Connolly at C. L. S., 9- 11- 1927, to 15 mos. impt. for larceny ( 3 cases). Method as in original case, except in one case she entered a church during service and stole a handbag from a pew. Thirty- four other cases of a similar nature, including one of failing to report, at Cardiff, Bristol, Scarborough, Blackpool, Bootle, Liver- pool, Manchester, Wallsend- on- Tyne, Birmingham, Leeds, Seaforth, Wallasey, Southsea and in the M. P. D. were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Used the names of Tracey Murray, Bridget Connelley, Thersa Sheila Murray, Shellah Connolly, Winifred Austin, Ruth McDonald, Jessie Murray, Mary Burke and Bridget Godwin. 406. Caradoc Rees Jones, Case No. 202 ( Vol. VII.), was, as Luis Rees Jones, at Marlborough Street Pol- Ct. ( L.), 16- 11- 1927, bound over in own recognizances £ 10 for 12 mos. on probation, for forging and uttering the endorsement on a cheque whilst employed as a salesman. y 407. Maud Somerset, Case No. 6, ( Vol. VIII.), was sentenced as Edna Rogers at C. L. S., 9- 11- 1927, to 21 mos. impt. for stealing a handbag from a settee in the lounge of a large stores. Grace Moore, Case No. 379 ( Vol. VIII.), was sentenced as Evelyn Garrett, alias Taylor, at Dublin Circuit Ct., 1- 11- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. ( conc.) for obtaining goods by false pretences and larceny ( 6/ eounts). 408. Joseph King, Case No. 3 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced at Stafford Ass., 15- 11- 1927, to 7 yrs. pen. for, offences against the Persons Act, 1861 ( Sec. 21). Two other cases of larceny and indecent assault were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Whilst employed as a gardener he induced a woman to show him the bathroom, tied her to the bedrails, indecently assaulted her, locked her in a bedroom and stole money from another bedroom. 409. William George Wheale, Case No. 60 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced at Merthyr ( Boro.) Q. Sess., 3- 11- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. and 5 yrs. p. d. for burglary, larceny and being a h. c. Effected entry to a public house, through an insecurely fastened window and left by opening front door, stole spirits, etc. jJohn O'Brien, C. R. O. No. 1538- 1925, was convicted with him. 410. Millicent Veronica Mitchell, Case No. 270 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced as Elsie Mitchell at Stratford P. Sess. ( L.), 2- 11- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing a diamond ring from dwelling- house, as visitor. \ J Hyman Romatsky, Case No. 248 ( Vol. XI.), was sentenced as Harry Harris at Clerkenwell Pol. Ct. ( L.), 16- 11- 1927, to 12 mos. impt. under the Prevention of Crimes Act for being a suspected person— found in a warehouse. / Edith Cosslett, Case No. 351 ( Vol. XI.), was sentenced at Salisbury ( City) Sess., 18- 11- 1927, to 9 mos. impt. for obtaining credit by false pretences. Method as in original case. Three other cases at Grays and Slough were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Used the names of E. Maslem and J. Meredith. J Daniel Flynn, Case No. 180 ( Vol. XII.), was sentenced at Smethwick Pol. Ct., 3- 11- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for loitering with intent. 411^ Robert Rivett Carnac, Case No. 464 ( Vol. XII.), was sentenced as Robert Rollo le Clerq Rivett- Carnac at C. C. C., 11- 11- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. for making a false oath and making and signing a false declaration before a registrar of marriages for the purpose of obtaining a licence for marriage. Made a declaration and an affidavit that he was a bachelor when in fact he was a married man and his wife still living. John Mayes, Case No. 205 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced at Leicester ( City) Pol. Ct., 7- 11- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing a case of whiskey. ^ y Horace Jones, Case No. 274 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced at C. L. S., 27- 10- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. for ( i) burglary ( ii) possessing housebreaking implements b}^ night and ( iii) shopbreaking, ( i) Method as in original case, ( iii) Chmbed gate outside a pawnbroker's shop and smashed the window. Six other cases of burglary and shopbreaking at Rhyl, Birmingham, Sheffield. Margate and in the M. P. D. were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. 412. John O'Sullivan, Case No. 330 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced as John Brown at Derby Ass., 9- 11- 1927. to 3 yrs. pen. for officebreaking, larceny and stealing a motor car. With a confederate stole a motor car left unattended, broke into an office, carried away a safe, broke it open with a pickaxe and stole cheques and valuable deeds. Two other cases of larceny at Great Staughton and in the M. P. D. w ere taken into consideration when sentence was passed. In one of these he stole petrol, etc., from a garage. Robert Augustus Delanev, C. R. O. No. 15527- 1924, was convicted with him. y 413. George William Mellor, Case No. 332 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced as Frederick George William Mellor at Manchester Pol. Ct., 2- 11- 1927, to 6 and 3 mos. impt. ( cons.) and 3 mos. impt. ( conc.) for obtaining food by false pretences ( 3 cases). Posed as assistant manager of local newspapers and obtained food by stating his landlady was ill and could not cook for him. LATEST INFORMATION. y William Hunt, Cases Nos. 21 ( Vol. I.) and 367 ( Vol. XII.), died, 25- 9- 1927, in Pentonville Prison. James Wilson, Case No. 268 ( Vol. II.), was liberated, 25- 11- 1927, to Manchester. Arthur James, Case No. 26 ( Vol. III.), wras liberated, 6- 11- 1927, to Dorchester. Arthur Roberts, Case No. 362 ( Vol. IV.), was liberated, 26- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 201, Hammersmith Road. John Mclntyre, Case No. 406 ( Vol. IV.), was liberated, 12- 11- 1927, to Hull. ^ Albert King, Case No. 423 ( Vol. V.), was liberated. 19- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Charles Henry Noble, Case No. 426 ( Vol. VI.), died, 10- 11- 1927, in Leeds Prison. ^ Thomas Wilson, Case No. 75 ( Vol. VII.), was liberated on p. d. licence 7- 11- 1927. James Sullivan, Case No. 218 ( Vol. VII.), was liberated on licence, 21- 11- 1927, to Chatham. ^/ 6dward Smith, Case No. 323 ( Vol. VII.), was liberated on licence, 9- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Arthur Williams, Case No. 96 ( Vol. VIII.), was liberated, 23- 11- 1927, to Fleet, / ' Diana Black, Case No.. 252 ( Vol. VIII.), was liberated, 25- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 99, Hales Buildings, St. George's Street, S. E. ^ Violet Lyle, Case No. 302 ( Vol. IX.), was liberated on licence, 15- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. ^ Harold Alexander Hammett, Case No. 392 ( Vol. IX.), was liberated on licence, 11- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. James Francis Murray Maguire, Case No. 435 ( Vol. X.), was liberated, 30- 9- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 100, Star Street, Edgware Road. James Stanley Thorpe, Case No. 159 ( Vol. XI.), was liberated, 5- 11- 1927, to Stockport, y Hannah Helliwell, Case No. 265 ( Vol. XI.), was liberated, 3- 11- 1927, to Wallasey. -^ Arthur Edwin Wood, Case No. 379 ( Vol. XI.), was liberated on licence, 29- 10- 1927, into the M. P. D. {/ Harriett Wakefield, Case No. 305 ( Vol. XII.), was liberated, 24- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Bertha Tappenden, Case No. 200 ( Vol. XIV.), was liberated, 25- 11- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 271, K Block, Guinness Buildings, Snow Fields, S. E. NOTE.—- In the event of information being received of the DEATH of any criminal whose particulars have appeared in POLICE GAZETTE SUPPLEMENT A, the fact should be notified to C. R. O. As the latest information or subsequent conviction of criminals, whose particulars have been inserted in Supplement A, will appear in each issue at the end of the cases, the original numbers should be cross- referenced on printed lines provided for that purpose. SPECIAL NOTICE. When any person whose poi trait and description have appeared in Supplement A is again arrested for any offence, and on account of being locally known the linger prints are not sent to C. R. O. for the purpose of search, it is requested that particulars of such conviction be sent to Criminal Record Office as soon as possible in order that they may appear in an early issue of Supplement A for the information of all forces.
