The following persons who have already appeared in Supplement A have been re- convicted as follows— James Harris, Case No. 166 ( Vol. I.), was, as Robert Rolfe, at Woolwich Pol. Ct. ( L.), 1- 7- 1927, tined 40s. for gaming. 226. Joseph William Southall, Cases Nos. 151 ( Vol. II.), and 110 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced as Joseph Wilson at Swansea Sess., 11- 6- 1927, to 8 mos. impt. for shopbreaking and larceny. Method as in original case. 227. Charles Baulch, Cases Nos. 297 ( Vol. II.), and 406 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as Frederick George Ernest Ward at East Sussex Sess., 28- 6- 1927, to 18 mos. impt. for obtaining money and food by false pretences. Stated he was employed at the local electric light works, that he was a pensioner, and also had a motor cycle which had broken down and was undergoing repair at a local shop. George Purchase, Cases Nos. 370 ( Vol. II.), and 15 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced as George Ray at Hertford Sess., 27- 6- 1927, to 12 mos. impt. for burglary ( 2 cases), larceny and possessing housebreaking implements by night. Method as in original case. 228. Horace Nail, Cases Nos. 74 ( Vol. III.), and 86 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced as Horace Edwin Nail at Berkshire Sess., 21- 6- 1927, to 5 yrs. pen, for obtaining money and goods by false pretences ( 5 cases). Became associated with a young woman, told her he had purchased a valuable ring for her, produced a receipted bill from a jeweller, borrowed money on the pretence of bank being closed, and that ho was short of ready cash, gave a worthless cheque for a larger amount and obtained the change. 229. Edward Charles Wilson, Case No. 100 ( Vol. III.), was sentenced at Cambridge ( Boro.) Pol. Ct., 25- 6- 1927, to 4, 4 and 4 mos. impt. ( cons.) for obtaining an M. A. gown and hood by false pretences ( 2 cases), and attempted false pretences. Obtained the gowns from University outfitters by writing to them from accommodation addresses, stating he was an M. A. of a certain college, used the name of a clergyman who had held the degree but who is now dead. Four similar offences at Oxford were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. 230. Herbert Jones, Case No. 210 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced as George Harper at Marlborough Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 25- 6- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for obtaining credit by fraud. Entered a restaurant, con- sumed a meal and attempted to leave without paying. 231. Lewis Harold Bell, Case No. 251 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced at Grimsby ( Co.) P. Sess., 28- 6- 1927, to 6 and 6 mos. impt. ( conc.), for false pretences ( 2 cases). Obtained food, lodgings and money by stating he was a builder and was building houses in the district, had no ready cash owing to having paid his men's wages. Also stated he was an electrical engineer and had a contract for the railway company. 232. Thomas Thomason, Case No. 344 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced as Thomas Hitchcock Stevens at Essex Ass., 15- 6- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. for stealing a bull and heifers from a meadow. 233. Joseph Grant, Case No. 58 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as John Ledger at Westminster Pol. Ct. ( L.), 28- 6- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for being a suspected person ( loitering). Hustled passengers boarding tramcars. 234. John Albert Smith, Case No. 375 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at C. C. C., 28- 6- 1927, to 17 mos. impt. for bigamy. Albert King, Case No. 423 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as Albert Edward King at Mansion House Pol. Ct. ( L.), 20- 6- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing a wallet and contents from person. 235. John Gwynne, Case No. 266 ( Vol. VI.), was sentenced as John Gwinne at South Western Pol. Ct. ( L.), 23- 6- 1927, to 3 and 3 mos. impt. ( conc.) for being a suspected person on enclosed premises ( church) and failing to notify change of address. Thomas Williams, Case No. 126 ( Vol. VII.), was sentenced at Stoke- upon- Trent Pol. Ct., 23- 6- 1927, to 2 mos. impt. for loitering with intent to pick pockets. Wilfred Mitchenson, C. R. O. No. 9665- 1918, and William Lapsley, C. R. O. No. 10870- 1921, were convicted with him. 236. John Thomas Young, Case No. 177 ( Vol. VII.), was sentenced as George William Young at Essex Ass., 14- 6- 1927, to 21 mos. impt. for shopbreaking and larceny. With confederates visited a seaside resort, forced the padlock and box lock on the door of a lock- up shop, stole a number of furs and skins and removed them to a waiting motor car. Edward Thomas Baker, C. R. O. No. 1094- 1900, and Dorothy Violet Mays, C. R. O. No. 22612- 1920, were convicted with him. 237. Arthur Williams, Case No. 96 ( Vol. VIII.), was sentenced as George Sinclair at Westminster Pol. Ct. ( L.), 23- 6- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing an attache- case from a motor car left unattended in the street. Walter Lewis, Case No. 114 ( Vol. VIII.), was sentenced as Walter Stanley Thornton at West- minster Pol. Ct. ( L.), 21- 6- 1927, to 6 weeks impt. for assault on private person. Patrick Connor, Case No. 461 ( Vol. VIII.), was sentenced as Patrick Dooling at Cannock Pol. Ct., 29- 6- 1927, to 3 and 2 mos. impt. ( cons.) for stealing a purse and money from the person at a cattle market and assault on police. One other caw of loitering with intent at Stoke City was taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Joseph Bourton. Case No. 163 ( Vol. XIII.), and Claude Chalk, C. R. O. No. 2511- 1902, were convicted with him. 238. Thomas Holt, Case No. 299 ( Vol. IX.), was sentenced as Herbert Hardy at Surrey Sess., 29- 6- 1927, to 4 yrs. pen. and 12 mos. impt. ( conc.) for housebreaking and larceny. Method as in original ease. 239. John Edward Jones, Case No. 267 ( Vol. XII.), was, as John Stevenson, at Birmingham Pol. Ct., 9- 6- 1927, fined 60s. or 21 days impt. for falsely representing himself to be a police constable ; also was sentenced as Jack Daly at Birmingham Pol. Ct., 17- 6- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for loitering with intent. Was seen opening the doors of stationary motor cars. Thomas James Mayo, Case No. 315 ( Vol. X1T.). was sentenced at Old Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 30- 6- 1927, to 1 mo. impt . for assault on police. Joseph Bourton, Case No. 163 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced at Cannock Pol. Ct., 29- 6- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for stealing a purse and money from the person at a cattle market. Patrick Connor, Case No. 461 ( Vol. VIII.), and Claude Chalk, C. R. O. Charles Wellings, Case No. 192 ( Vol. 1.), was liberated on licence, 16- 6- 1927, to Bournemouth. Arthur Belcher, Case No. 85 ( Vol. II.), was liberated on expiration of sentence, 29- 6- 1927, to Maidenhead. William Brown, Case No. 52 ( Vol. III.), was liberated, 27- 6- 1927. into the M. P. D. John Harrison Wallace, Case No. 463 ( Vol. XI.), was liberated, 20- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. Douglas Frank Walker, Case No. 318 ( Vol. XII.), was liberated, 24- 6- 1927, to Liverpool. Mary Burgess, Case No. 129 ( Vol. XIII.), was liberated, 25- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. NOTE.— In the event of information being received of the DEATH of any criminal whose particulars have appeared in POLICE GAZETTE SUPPLEMENT A, the fact should bo notified to C. R. O. As the latest information or subsequent conviction of criminals, whose particulars have been inserted in Supplement A, will appear in each issue at the end of the cases, the original numbers should be cross- referenced on printed lines provided for that purpose. SPECIAL NOTICE. When any person whose portrait and description have appeared in Supplement A is again arrested for any offence, and on account of being locally known the finger prints are not sent to C. R. O. for the purpose of search, it is requested that particulars of such conviction be sent to Criminal Record Office, as soon as possible in order that they may appear in an early issue of Supplement A for the information of all Forces.
