Albert Vickers, Cases Nos. 29 ( Vol. I.) and 142 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as James William Barrett at Marlborough Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 24- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing articles froru shop counter. 184. Thomas Robinson, Cases Nos. 293 ( Vol. I.) and 143 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as Thomas CoateS at Appleby Ass., 2- 6- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. for forgery ( forged the signature on a cheque and presented ^ it at a bank). A case of false pretences at Stockton was taken into consideration when sentence was passed. Charles Gilbert Rees, Case No. 329 ( Vol. I.), was sentenced at Portsmouth Sess., 21- 4- 1927, to 5 mos. impt. for attempted warehousebreaking and breaking and entering a pavilion ( 2 cases). ( X 185. James Smith, Cases Nos. 171 ( Vol. II.) and 405 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as MichaerO'Hara at Ipswich ( Boro.) P. Sess., 30- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for begging and threatening to kill. 186^ John Catesby, Cases No. 296 ( Vol. 11.) and 345 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as Edward Emsleyat C. C. C., 20- 5- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. a d 5 prs. p. d. for receiving and stealing a cheque book, false pretences ( 4 cases) and being a h. c. Stole the cheque book from a residence when visiting there in respect to a business transaction. Sought to obtain a business by means of worthless cheque, also obtained money, goods and a medical instrument from tradesmen by worthless cheque. Twelve other cases of a similar nature were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. ^ I I 187. William Shepherd, Case No. 352 ( Vol. II.), was sentenced at C. L. S., 25- 5- 1927, to 21 mos. impt. for stealing and receiving a number of musical instruments, etc. With confederates drove a horse and van. which had been left unattended, to a quiet street, transferred part of the load to a motor vehicle and subsequently disposed of same. The horse and van being abandoned. Reginald Edward Webster, C. R. O. No. 9317- 1927, was convicted with him. ^ Frederick Clifford, Case No. 362 ( Vol. II.), was sentenced as George William Penfold at Shoreham P. Sess., 16- 5- 1927, to 1 mo. impt. for fraud on railway. George Govey, Case No. 80 ( Vol. III.), was sentenced as Charles Parkliouse at Brighton PoL Ct., 27- 5- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for being a suspected person on racecourse. Edward Smith, C. R. O. No. S/ 157084, and Harry Broughton, C. R. O. No. 89- 1925, were convicted with him. Bernard Towse, Case No. 54 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Summary Court, 6- 5- 1927, to 30 days impt. for neglect of wife and child. ^ Herbert Hartell, Case No. 89 ( Vol. IV.), was sentenced as Robert Smith at Bow Street PoL Ct. ( L), 26- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing an overcoat from cloak room at hotel. 18& f William Henry, Case No. 10 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as William Henry Burton at Bow Street PoL Ct. ( L.), 1- 6- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing an overcoat from large stores. 189. Arthur Brown, Case No. 12 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as Arthur Brown, alias Benshaw, at C. C. C^ 24- 5- 1927, to 5 and 3 yrs. pen. ( cons.), and 5 yrs. pen. and 2 yrs. impt. ( conc.) for ( i) obtaining money by false pretences ( 2 cases); ( ii) demanding money with menaces; and ( iii) conspiracy. With con- federates, decoyed a man to a room, threatened him with exposure for sodomy, posed as a detective » officer and obtained large sums of money. ^^^ H ll | i' George Fry, Case No. 242 ( Vol. V.) was sentenced as George Goodwin at Marlborough Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 26- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing a lady's handbag and contents from shop counter. George Charles Gordon, Case No. 279 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced at Marylebone Pol. Ct. ( L'.)> 14- 4- 1927} to 3 mos. impt. for being a suspected person, loitering. George Aitken C. R. O. No* 6614- 1924, was convicted with him. 190. William Bulfin, Case No. 407 ( Vol. V.), was sentenced as James Henry Cave at Worthing Pol. Ct., 24- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for stealing a pair of boots from dwelling house. Whilst peddling with lace he called at a house, and not receiving any reply to his knocking walked in and stole the boots. ^ Albert Crisp, Case No. 265 ( Vol. VI.), was sentenced as Walter Wood at Marlborough Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 20- 4- 1927, to 3 mos. impt. for stealing four cushion squares from large stores. 1/ Clifford Walmsley, Case No. 141 ( Vol. VII.), was. as Clifford Taylor, at St. Helens P. Sess., 18- 5- 1927, fined 10s. and 6s. witness fee or 14 days impt., pay 20s. damage or 14 days impt., for being drunk and disorderly and wilful damage to a motor car windscreen. u Herbert George Saul, Case No. 63 ( Vol. IX.), was sentenced at Doncaster ( Boro.) Pol. Ct., 27- 5- 1927 to 4, 4 and 4 mos. impt. ( conc.) for obtaining money by false pretences. Method as in original case. Two other eases of false pretences were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. U 191. Mark Henry Robins, Case No. 380 ( Vol. IX.) was sentenced at Axbridge Pol. Ct., 27- 5- 1927, to 6 and 6 mos. impt. ( cons.) for stealing a rug and wallet, ( i) Stole the rug from a motor car left unattended in street, ( ii) Stole the wallet from a till in a shop. Ralph Hammond, Case No. 155 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced at Middlesex Sess., 7- 5- 1927, to 5 yrs. pen. for housebreaking ( 3 cases). Method as in original case. i/ 192. Percival Rogers, Case No. 187 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced as Thomas Seale at Southend- on- Sea P. Sess., 20- 5- 1927, to 12 mos. impt. under the Prevention of Crimes Act, for being a suspected person. With a confederate was arrested whilst driving a motor car in which were found housebreaking implements. George Wilson, C. R. O. No. 751- 1912, was convicted with him. George Meredith, Case No. 235 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced at C. L. S., 26- 5- 1927, to 21 mos. im ) t. for receiving a motor car, etc. ( 2 cases). With a confederate was found in possession of a stolen motor car, etc., which he was trying to sell. Edward George Menday, C. R. O. No. 6440- 1920, was convicted wit'i him. u- 193. Albert Armstrong, Case No. 449 ( Vol. X.), was sentenced at C. C. C., 24- 5- 1927, to 3 yrs. pen. and 5 yrs. p. d. for endeavouring to obtain a watch, etc., by means of a forged letter, also by means of a forged money order and being a h. c. With a confederate called on various firms of jewellers, etc., selected goods and promised to call and pay for same later. He then induced a messenger boy to call for the goods either with a forged letter or a money order which had been altered from 5s. to a greater amount. Victor Smith, Case No. 68 ( Vol. XIV.) was convicted with him. i/ John Rush, Case No. 203 ( Vol. XL), was sentenced at Hanley P. Sess., 17- 5- 1927, to 12 mos. impt. for obtaining money by false pretences ( 4 cases). Method as in original case. Cases of a similar nature at Kidderminster and Bootle and one of assault on female on Z were taken into consideration when sentence was passed. y 194. Hannah Helliwell, Case No. 265 ( Vol. XI.), was sentenced at Wallasey P. Sess., 3- 6- 1927, to 3 and 3 mos. impt. ( cons.) for larceny ( servant) and attempted false pretences. Whilst in service obtained the key of the safe and stole money. Also represented she was applying for a maintenance order against her husband and required money to pay her solicitor. 195. Frank William Stagg, Case No. 415 ( Vol. XL), was sentenced as Frank Smith at Wellington ( N. Z.), 8- 4- 1927, to 3 and 3 yrs. impt. ( conc.) for theft from a dwelling ( 2 cases). 196. Norah Evans, Case No. 78 ( Vol. XII.), was sentenced as Norah Halbert at C. L. S., 23- 5- 1927, to 21 mos. impt. for ( i) stealing luggage from railway station waiting room ; ( ii) stealing attache- case and contents, etc., from lodgings; and ( iii) stealing jewellery, etc., from lodgings. ( ii) and ( iii) method as in original case. Three other cases of 1 irceny ( servant) and one of larceny ( bailee) were taken into consideration wherf sentence was passed. 197. L/ John James Moran, Case No. 16 ( Vol. XIII.), was sentenced as Jack Moran at Marlborough Street Pol. Ct. ( L.), 3- 6- 1927, to 1 mo. impt. for begging from foot passengers. 198. Victor Smith, Case No. 68 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced at C. C. C., 24- 5- 1927, to yrs. pen. and 5b yrs. p. d. for endeavouring to obtain a cigarette- case, etc., by means of a forged money order, also by means of a forged letter, and being a h. c. With a confederate called on various firms of jewellers, selected goods and promised to call and pay later. He then induced a messenger boy to call for the goods, either with a forged letter or money order which had been altered from 5s. to a- greater amount. Albert Armstrong, Case No. 449 ( Vol. X.), was convicted with him. U 199. Francis Harry Taylor, Case No. 71 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced at Reading ( Boro.) Pol. Ct., 20- 5- 1927, to 6 mos. impt. for obtaining money by false pretences. Method as in original case. A case of larceny at Camberlev in the name of Harrison Jones was taken into consideration when sentence was passed. ^ Thomas Michael McKenzie, Case No. 105 ( Vol. XIV.), was sentenced at Luton ( Boro.) Pol. Ct., 24- 5- 1927, to 1 mo. impt. for loitering with intent. LATEST INFORMATION. ^ Frederick George Duncan, Case No. 96 ( Vol. I.), was liberated, 21- 5- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 6, Deanwall Road, Earlstield. ^ William Ralph Osborne, Case No. 24 ( Vol. II.), was liberated, 3- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 88, Lancefield Street, Queens Park. Alice Hall, Case No. 77 ( Vol. III.), was liberated on licence, 27- 5- 1927, into the M. P. D. L Austin Mostyne Earle, ( ase No. 48 ( Vol. IV.), was liberated on licence, 31- 5- 1927, to Sunderland. ^ Herbert Jones, Case No. 210 ( Vol. IV.), was liberated on expiration of sentence, 8- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. Edward Dawson, Case No. 306 ( Vol. IV.), was liberated, 7- 6- 1927, to Portsmouth. ^ James William Bennett, Case No. 13 ( Vol. V.), was liberated on licence, 3- 6- 1927. into the M. P. D. 1/ John McCarthy, Case No. 260 ( Vol. V.), was liberated, 27- 5- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 2, Lancing Street, Euston. ^ George Brooker, Case No. 288 ( Vol. V.), was liberated, 3- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 44A, West Ham Lane, Stratford. Emanuel Ert, Case No. 129 ( Vol. VI.), was liberated on licence, 25- 5- 1927, into the M. P. D. (/ James Guy, Case No. 154 ( Vol. VI.), was liberated, 7- 6- 1927, to Plymouth. UJ Beatrice Gebetsberger, Case No. 365 ( Vol. VI.), was liberated, 10- 6- 1927, to Bournemouth. {/ . Diana Black, Case No. 252 ( Vol. VIII.), was liberated. 3- 6- 1927, into the M. P. D. Intended address : 99, Havles Buildings, St. George's Road. James Besant, Case No. 366 ( Vol. IX.), was liberated, 4- 6- 1927, to Birmingham. Daniel Flynn, Case No. 180 ( Vol. XII.), was liberated, 20- 5- 1927, to Birmingham. NOTE.— In the event of information being received of the DEATH of any criminal whose particulars have appeared in POLICE GAZETTE SUPPLEMENT A, the fact should be notified to C. R. O. As the latest information or subsequent conviction of criminals, whose particulars have been inserted in Supplement A, will appear in each issue at the end of the cases, the original numbers should be cross- referenced on printed lines provided for that purpose. SPECIAL NOTICE. When any person whose portrait and description have appeared in Supplement A is again arrested for any olTonce, and on account of being locally known the finger prints are not sent to C. R. O. for the purpose of search, it is requested that particulars of such conviction be sent to Criminal Record Office, as soon, as possible in order that they may appear in an early issue of • Supplement A for the information of all Forces.
