HORWOOD, The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. SPECIAL NOTICE. 1.— Special attention of all Forces is called to the below described Man, whose arrest is sought for larceny and fraud at Southend- on- Sea, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Barnstaple, Plymouth, Weston- super- Mare, Ashford, Haywards Heath, Canterbury, Tonbridge, Exeter and Hastings. Secured intro- duction to a bank, through the agency of the licensee of a public house, represented that he was possessed of considerable means, that he desired to open an account with a large deposit, which he promised to post on the following day. He failed to pay any money in, and obtained the cheque book by false representations. Subsequently cashed the cheques in various places, generally with hotel and public house proprietors, whose confidence he gained by visiting their houses frequently. Adver- tised in a local paper for clerk to an estate agency, interviewed loser and asked for £ 10 as security. Accepted £ 4 on account and absconded. At the present time he is in possession of cheque book, on Lloyd's Bank, Fox's Branch, Exeter, which he obtained by gaining the confidence of the proprietor of an hotel, and inducing him to introduce him to the manager of the bank. The book contained cheques Nos. 326 f/ M, 521353 to 412, and, between 7- 11- 25 and 8- 1- 26, cheques from this book have been cashed at the following places : Teignmouth, Southampton ( 3), Hastings ( 3), Worthing and in M. The cheques generally arrive at the bank three or four days after they have been tendered, and Ford invariably leaves a town soon after he has com- mitted an offence.
