HORWOOD, The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division.— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences, 31st July, 1924.— J. Lodge Priestley, b. 1888, 5ft. 9in., stoops, very round shouldered ; dress, dk. clothes, smart appearance. Approached loser in the lounge of a hotel, and spoke to him about friends of his, whom Priestley appeared to know. He then mentioned that he was at the time short of money, and asked to be accommo- dated with cash in exchange for a cheque on the Yorkshire Penny Bank, Bradford. Loser agreed, and later the cheque was returned marked No account. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. 2.— E Division.— For forging and uttering a document purporting to be an Income Tax Repayment Claim. Lawrence James Seaton, b. 1899, 5ft, 7in., h. dk. ( turning grey) ; dress, dk. clothes. Was employed as a Tax Officer, Aldwych Tax District, 88, Kingsway, W. C., from December, 1920 to the 1st May, 1924. On or about the 15th December, 1920, he caused an Income Tax Repayment Claim to be sent to the Aldwych Tax Office in a fictitious name. The claim was passed by him and the amount repayable £ 39 lid 3d,, appeared there on in his handwriting. Subsequently it was examined by the Accountant and Comptroller General and accepted as genuine. A money order for the amount mentioned was sent to the address shown in the claim, and which was afterwards found to be an accommodation address. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. 3.— F Division.— For stealing ( visitor) 13 rings ( 1 gold, set egg shaped sapphire, surrounded 13 diamonds in circle ; 1 gold, square design, set ruby surrounded by 16 small diamonds, set in platinum ; 1 gold, set 4 diamonds in row in platinum ; 1 gold, set 5 diamonds in row ; 1 gold marquise, set 16 diamonds in platinum ; 1 gold crossover pattern, set 6 diamonds in platinum ; 1 gold, set small diamonds on shank, 1 oblong ruby and 1 large diamond ; 1 gold maple leaf pattern, set rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds ; 1 gold, set 3 half pearls raised ; 1 gold, set 3 turquoise, small pearls between ; 1 gold signet with crest of unicorn's head, front legs uplifted, head pierced with spear ; 1 plain gold, Eddie on inside of shank ; 1 platinum, set single diamond) ; 3 bracelets ( 2 plain gold curb pattern, made from watch chain ; 1 gold with plaque, green enamel peacock thereon); 3 watches ( 1 gold wristlet, square face, black Roman figures, Ronnie, 5th June, 1918, and Tla Sporsimus on back; 1 gold, on expanding bracelet, white face, black English figures, narrow circle of white round glass, crest of unicorn's head with 2 front legs uplifted, head pierced with lance ;. 1 gold old- fashioned, black Roman figures, key wind, black flower on back in gold ring) ; gold seal with crest of unicorn's head, with front legs uplifted, head pierced with lance ; gold and platinum safety- pin ; 9 brooches ( 1 gold bar, 3in. long, round gold plate set 7 rubies round and across face ; 1 gold cat sitting in boot with lace undone, set chip diamonds, ears of cat set ruby, platinum safety chain attached ; 1 gold and platinum bar, 3in. long, set 3 pearls, 1 in centre, 1 each end ; 1 gold bar, set single pearl in centre ; 1 gold bar, plaque thereon, set 1 diamond in centre and 4 sapphires around ; 1 gold, set Indian star, 1 sapphire in centre, 1 single pearl at each point of star, white enamel ring round centre 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. A needle worker; native of London. Pre. con. of larceny, fraud, attempted fraud and a minor offence at REIGATE ( Edith Maud Moody), SOUTHEND ( Florence Edwards) and on B, P, S, V, W and Y. Called at loser's flat, said she had come from Effingham for situation as cook, was left alone for a short while, and when loser returned found she had absconded, after which the property was missed from a bedroom. Inf. to C. R. O. 4.— G Division.— For stealing 6 cheques and £ 19 os.— Francis H. Raymond, alias Captain Raymond, b. 1895, 5ft. llin., medium build, h. dk. brown, e. brown, clean shaven, slight limp, Jewish appearance ; dress, It. grey suit, soft collar, tie, It. Trilby hat; wears square wristlet watch with luminous dial and gold rimmed spectacles. Was employed as a clerk, and on 5th inst. was sent to cash cheque for £ 19 5s. on Nederlands Bank of South Africa, and absconded. During absence of his employer, went to his office and abstracted 0 cheques, Nos. 2433, 2434, 2485, 2486, 2569 and 2570, from cheque book on above bank. Inf. to C. R. O. 5.— W Division.— For stealing ( lodgings), 18 ostrich feathers ; silver brooch, swallow pattern, inlaid gold on wings ; long pink silk scarf, small tassels each end, 2 crossed flags with A Present from Gibraltar thereon ; pair boy's boots, size 8 ; pair men's do., size 10— William Scott, b. 1866, 5ft. 10in., medium build, h. and e. brown, dk. brown moustache, face slightly pitted with small- pox marks, broad country accent; dress, blue serge jacket with breast pockets and brass buttons, blue serge waistcoat and trousers, blue jersey, fawn Trilby hat with black band, grey socks, boots.— Ada Scott, b. 1872, 5ft. 6in., slim build, c. sallow, h. white, e. blue ; dress, black costume, green coat, chocolate and white striped blouse, yellow cardigan ( small burnt hole one elbow), shoes with black buckles. CITY OK LONDON. 6.— For obtaining by false pretences, 25th July, 1924, 10 moleskin plates.— Louis Silberklang, b. 1894, 5ft. 7in., c. dk., h. ( slightly bald in front) and moustache ( slight) dk. brown, e. brown, Jewish appearance ; dress, brown suit, grey felt hat, linen collar, dk. tie, brown shoes. A furrier ; native of Poland. In possession of Polish passport, No. 557, issued June, 1924, and Identity book, No. 244195, Serial No. 2805, issued at Aliens Office, Commercial- street ( L.), 25- 10- 17. Repre- sented he wanted the skins to make up into coats for a firm known to losers. Subsequently sold the skins under price, and absconded. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Thompson, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. 2. CARNARVONSHIRE. 7.— Conway ( Co.).— For stealing £ 3.- Kathleen Teiling, b. about 1864, 5ft. 4in., stout build, c. pale, h. believed wearing dk. brown false hair over white hair, or may be dyed, e. grey ; dress, grey flannel costume ( faded) with black and white check lining, heliotrope toque ( trimmed flowers), navy silk jumper, dk. brown skunk fur ( 4ft. 6in. by 15in., jazz lining ( stolen), jazz woollen coat ( stolen), black veil, shoes ; wore bar brooch with red stone, wedding ring, imitation dress do., and sometimes spectacles. Carried leather handbag. On recom- mendation of catholic priest engaged rooms for herself and lady friend, and on 4th inst., was given £ 3 in registered letter to post, and it was later ascertained that the money had been ab- stracted from the letter before posting. Stated he was a lorry driver, that his lorry had broken down, and was going to Chesterfield. Was given letter containing cheque to post and obtained £ 1 2s. Gd. on it and ab- sconded. Believed a traveller for British Broadcasting Co. Shared bedroom with loser, who is secretary of local club and placed the club takings in a linen bag which was contained in a leather bag in his bedroom. On 7th inst., loser handed the leather bag to a club steward who on opening it found the linen bag which contained £ 7 14s. 9d and cheque for 12s. 6d. on London Joint City and Midland Bank, Sheffield, No. 489- 114408, had been extracted. A safe, containing a number of postal orders, money orders, postage stamps, insurance stamps, income tax stamps, savings bank coupons, National Health stamps, unemployment stamps, National Savings certificates and cash, was taken away. The official office stamp bearing the following particulars— Kingsley Road, 9 Sept. 24, Liverpool, was also taken.
