Called on loser, tendered letter purport- ing to be from his employer in vicinity ( false) and obtained various sums of money amounting to £ 17 10s. on Bill of Exchange, which on enquiry was found to be a forgery. DERBYSHIRE. 51.— Buxton ( Co.).— For stealing pair of K boots from hotel shed, 9th or 10th inst.— William Shedley, b. about 1894, 5ft. 8 or 9in., thin build, c. pale, clean shaven ; dress, grey coat and vest, brown trousers, It. brown velour hat, soft collar, probably stolen boots. In possession of a small monkey and pedlar's certificate, No. 1120, issued 9- 8- 23, by Derby ( Co.) Police. Sells lead pencils, etc. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Else, Buxton. KENT. 52.— Tonbridge ( Co.).— For stealing ( servant), £ 13. — William Connelly, b. about 1894, 5ft. 9 or lOin., c. fair, h. brown, e. blue ; dress, blue suit and cap, or may wear flannel trousers. Native of Scotland. Obtained situation as indoor servant through National Soldiers and Sailors Office, of Westminster, stole the money and absconded. Warrant issued. Inf. to Acting Supt. Fuller, Tonbridge. LANCASHIRE. 53. Blackpool ( Boro.).— For stealing ( lodgings) £ 14, between 6th and 10th inst.— Walter Depas, alias Piper, b. 1905, 5ft. 5 or 6in., medium builcl, c. fresh ( freckled), h. red and curly, clean shaven ; dress, brown jacket and vest, grey trousers, or fawn and grey herring- bone suit, boots. Stole the money belonging to a fellow lodger, during his temporary absence. _ Warrant issued. yinf. to the C. C., Blackpool. 54 — Bury ( po.).— For obtaining 3s. by false pretences, at Heywood, 9th inst.— A Man, b. 1902 or 1903, 5ft. 7 or 8in., slender build, c. and h. dk., believed clean shaven, Lancashire accent; dress, dk. shabby suit and cap. Called on the aggrieved person ( a piano dealer), and stated that he was a traveller for R. Kay & Coy., Acid Manufac- turers, Wigan, and that he was selling a liquid composed of acid and water for cleaning brass. He produced a bottle of the liquid and a cloth from his pocket and demonstrated with same on the brass portions of a piano. He then induced aggrieved person to pay him 3s. for two bottles of the liquid, which he took from a parcel on the carrier of his bicycle. Thompson, Bury. 5").— Church ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 40 by false pretences, at Rishton, 4th January, 1924.— Arthur Whittle, I). 1889, about 5ft. 5in., medium build, c. fresh, h. It, brown, e. blue, clean shaven. Advertised a fish and chip business for sale. Aggrieved person answered the advertisement and subsequently purchased the business, which Whittle alleged was free from debt, It was later ascer- tamed that there was a bill of sale in existence on the shop fittings to the amount of £ 40. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Sharman, Church. 56.— Warrington ( Boro.).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 8th and 10th inst. — A Man, b. about 1901, oft. 8in., c. pale, h. brown, clean shaven, walks with toes turned inwards, believed regimental badge on forearm ; dress, pepper and salt sports coat, flannel trousers, grey socks, no waistcoat, striped collar and shirt, grey cap, brown shoes. Stated he was employed by a firm of printers and had come to Warrington to teach a soldier at the barracks how to use a printing press ( false), left the house at 9 a. m. on 10th inst. and has not been seen since. After his departure 4s. was missed from a drawer in a bed- room which he shared with another lodger. Also suspected of stealing motor cycle, Case No. 70 current issue. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. Beaminster ( Co.).— On 29th June, a brown Ford motor van, bearing identification mark BC- 6516, registered in the name of Robert Calladine collided with a lad who was cycling in the same direction, smashing the bicycle, the lad narrowly escaped being killed. The driver, after telling the lad he might have been killed, stated he would see him next day and arrange for replacing the bicycle, and failed to do so. The present where- abouts of Robert Calladine, who travels as a hawker, is sought for the purpose of ascertaining the name and address of the driver of the car. with a view to proceedings being taken against him for driving to the danger of the public.
