HORWOOD, The Commissioner oj Police of the Metropolis. SPECIAL NOTICE MURDER YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 1.— Bradford ( City).— About 1.30 p. m. 23rd inst., a widow named ELIZABETH REANEY, residing alone at 23, Sunderland Road, was found dead in a bedroom there with injuries to her head, evidently inflicted with a long handled hammer, which was found by her side. Mrs. Reaney was last seen alive about 9 p. m. 22nd inst., and the murder probably took place between 10.30 p. m. the 22nd and 8.30 a. m. the 23rd inst. Enquiries show that Mrs. Reaney answered the following matrimonial advertisement in the Leeds Mercury, 2nd July, 1921, " Gentleman, private income £ 1000, desires correspondence, refined lady, private means, genuine, address Q. 95, Leeds Mercury." She received a reply from a person giving the name of G. MUSGRAVE, which was afterwards exchanged for GEORGE A. GOODSON. Goodson would appear to have continued the acquaintance and to have periodically obtained from deceased woman sums of money, and recently deceased mentioned she was to be married to a man believed to be Goodson. There is good reason to believe that Goodson was with the deceased on the night of the 22nd inst. Goodson stated he was a stockbroker and had connections at BUXTON. He is believed to have recently received facial bruising. It is possible that a sum of money, probably in Bank of England £ 10 notes has been stolen. The following is a description of A MAN who was seen to enter the house about 10.30 p. m. on Thursday the 21st inst., as though accustomed to going there : b. about 1874, 5ft. 6 or 7in., proportionate build, c. sallow, h. very noticeably grey, round face, clean shaven, broad shoulders carried high ; dress, dk. blue or black overcoat ( which appeared to be shiny at back), dk. trousers, large cap ( pulled well over eyes), boots. 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE.
