Was employed as agent in South Wales for the Marlborough Engineering Coy., Salford, to sell bacon slicing machines. Sold one and absconded. Has also been employed as traveller for scale makers. KENT. \ 6.— Gravesend ( Boro.).— For stealing ( lodgings) £ 1, 1st inst.— A Man who gave name of Roberts, b. 1883 ( looks younger), 5ft. 6in., slim build, o. sallow, h. brown, clean shaven, True Love and other marks back rt. forearm ; dress, blue serge suit, pipe seams, brown cap, soft collar, tie, fawn mackintosh with plaid lining, boots. Stated native of Channel Islands. Said he had just returned from 6 mos. trip and that his ship was lying in London Docks. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 7.— Liverpool ( City).— For obtaining £ 2 12s. by false pretences, 30th ult.— Fred Thornton, b. 1885, 5ft. 6 or 7in., thin build, c. sallow, e. blue, clean shaven, thin face and lips, small mouth, good teeth ; dress, dk. grey suit, It. brown mackintosh, dk. brown cap, collar and tie, respectable appear- ance. A motor mechanio ; native of Bradford. Told loser he had just arrived from Bradford with motor lorry which had broken down, that he had hurt his arm and had telephoned to his wife to bring him some money. Borrowed above amount from loser to send his man back to Bradford. Identical with Fred Thornton, Case No. 131, 26- 9- 23. Warrant issued. (? Inf. to the C. C., Liverpool. 8.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining by false pretences, 28th ult., male ass, without shoes, in good condition; hawker's cart, painted brown, Manchester stencilled on tailboard ; set of harness ( far worn).— George Taylor, b. 1895, 5ft. 9in., slim build, c. dk., clean shaven, tattooed rt. forearm ; dress, blue serge suit, collar and tie, black velour hat, shoes.
