CHESHIRE. 1.— Wallasey ( Boro.).— For stealing ( lodgings), 24th inst.— Single stone diamond ring, set platinum ; gold ring, set 6 small rubies ; lady's gold lever watch, keywind, gold open face, P. M. on back ; long gold rope pattern chain attached ; gold curb pattern bracelet ; garnet pendant and chain ; amethyst do. ; gold safety pin, P. in small pearls.— A Man who gave name of Briggs, b. 1888 to 18911, 5ft. 5Jin., c. ruddy, h. dk., slight cast rt. e, clean shaven, thin features, North Country accent; dress, grey herringbone suit, It. fawn hat, blue pilot overcoat, brown boots, royal blue handkerchief, wore discharged soldier's badge. Stated native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Told loser he had been sent by parish priest, for lodgings, as he was working at church close by. Left the house next morning, and the above property was later missed. Inf. to the C. C., Wallasey. DEVONSHIRE. 2.— Torquay ( Co.).— For uttering three spurious £ 1 Treasury notes, 23rd inst.— A Man, b. about 1893, 5ft. 7 to 9in., c. pale, rather long features, 1. arm withered and believed amputated at wrist, lame 1. leg, scar centre rt. hand ; dress, fawn rain- coat, believed It. suit, brown trilby hat. Called on 3 shopkeepers, made small purchases in each case, tendered the spurious notes and received change. Each of the notes bears the same number, viz. : AI over 7 504310. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Eddy, Torquay. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 3.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining £ 4 10s. by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 4th inst.— Charles H. McDonald, b. 1883 to 1888, 5ft. 5in., c. sallow, h. dk., clean shaven, rather thin features ; dress, mercantile marine uniform with brass buttons, peak cap with white cover; wore mercantile marine badge. Called on tailor, ordered a mercan- tile marine uniform and civilian suit and set of miniature medals. Returned later , said he was short of cash and asked loser to cash cheque, No. A/ B 76650, drawn by R. B. Batty on London County Westminster & Parr's Bank. Winchester Branch, payable to Chas. McDonald, for £ 4 10. s. Stated he had received the cheque from a Customs House officer. The cheque was later returned marked No Account, and it was ascertained that it had been stolen from a book at Winchester on 24th ult. Was allowed to take away the miniatures including Military, Mons, General Service, Victory and Long Service medals. Stated he was formerly a naval officer and in employ of Canadian Pacific Steamship Co. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Bristol. ISLE or WIGHT. 4.— Newport ( Co.).— For stealing ( lodgings), at East Cowes, 14th inst., silver cigarette case, gold coin case ( recovered) ; • blue serge suit; brown vclour hat ; 2 shirts ; 3 collars ; 3 ties ; pair fur lined kid gloves ; and half sovereign.— Frederick Bignell, b. about 1893, about 5ft. 9in., medium build, h. dk., clean shaven, scar on cheek. T. Smith, b. 1895 to 1899, 5ft. 7in., stout build, round features, slightly deaf ; dress, navy blue suit, straw hat, collar and tie, brown boots. Inf. to Supt. Yates, Old Trafford. 7.— Seaforth ( Co.).— For stealing from cricket pavilion at Great Crosby, 18th inst., gent's watch ( recovered).- - A Man who gave the name of Richard Quirk, b. 1888; 5ft 8in., medium build, c. fresh, h. Was treasurer of Dormanstown Wesleyan Sunday School Outing Fund, and was entrusted with above amount. When called upon for the money, stated ho had spent it. Absconded 20th ult., leaving his wife and two children. Formerly carried on business as a greengrocer, but became bankrupt.
