LEICESTERSHIRE . 11.— Hinckley ( Co.).— For obtaining 349 pairs of boots by false pretences, 11th inst.— C. Crichton, b. 1855, 5ft. 8| in. to 5ft. 9Jin., medium build, h. ( practically bald) grey, rather heavy moustache ( untrained and reddish brown under nose), e. ( believed) blue ( small), wears spectacles when reading, stoops when walking; dress, black coat, tweed trousers, bowler hat, boots ( strong, square toes), carried fawn raincoat and walking stick. Native of ( stated) Ireland. Called at a boot factory with introductory letter purporting to be from Henry Lyons & Co., Sligo, said he was buying for that firm, obtained the boots and gave a cheque for £ 96 5s. on National Bank of Sligo, signed Albert Fanis, Managing Director. The cheque, which was a stolen one, was later returned marked No Account, and Messrs. Lyons repudiate any knowledge of the matter. The boots were packed in 4 cases with Bailey & Simmons, Hinckley, stencilled thereon in black. Crichton booked to Liverpool on 11th inst. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Rigby, Hinckley. SHROPSHIRE. 12.— Whitchurch ( Co.).— For non- payment of fine of £ 25 for larceny at Wem.— Anthony Lawrence Harmse, b. 1896, 5ft. 1 lin., c. sallow, clean shaven, very thick lips, stoops when walking ; dress, brown Norfolk jacket and vest, Bedford breeches, khaki puttees, brown trilby hat. Believed to be a Dutch subject and speaks broken English. Associates with boxing men. Resided at Crewe till February last, when he stated he was going to Warrington. Has been employed as a canvasser selling metal polish. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Jones, Whitchurch. 13.— Whitchurch ( Co.).— For leaving his wife and child chargeable to Union at Wem.— John Jones, b. 1887, 5ft. 6in., c. fresh, wears spectacles ; dress, grey suit, brown trilby hat, boots ( strong). Frank Brady, b. 1893 to 1896, 5ft. 6in., c. sallow, peculiar appearance to rt. eye, long nose ; dress, navy blue suit, soft collar, tie, trilby hat, boots. Loser advertised for situation as butcher and offered to deposit a security. Toyne interviewed him and stated he was a butcher at Beverley and would give him a situation, but required £ 10 security. Obtained the above amount saying that it was to ensure loser putting in an appearance. On 11th inst. obtained 35s. from a band conductor by stating he had an opportunity of purchasing 3 clarionettes at Brough. In this case gave name of B. Oldroyd and false address, obtained a place in loser's orchestra, attended rehearsals to gain confidence. Was entrusted with a B flat clar- ionette with C sharp key attached, Sold by Hawkes & Son, Denman- street, Piccadilly, London, on bell, and with which he absconded. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. ( deep set) brown, clean shaven, lost part rt. foot but does not affect walk ; dress, brown suit, It. grey trilby hat, soft collar, dk. tie, black boots ( wom). Obtained lodgings, stating he was travelling for Austin's. Grocers, London. When pressed for payment, told loser that he was expecting letter with money from his firm. The letter did not arrive and he absconded. Warrant issuod. Inf. to Supt. Richardson, Derby.' HAMPSHIRE. X 142.— Portsmouth ( Boro.').— For obtaining £ 5 I Is. ( id. and a raincoat by false pretences, 9- 5- 2: 1.— A Man who gave name of T. Harrison, b. about 1878, 5ft. 10 or I lin., well built, believed clean shaven ; dress, blue suit and bowler hat. Advertised a gun for sale in the Exchange and Mart and obtained money order foi £ 9 10s. ( post dated) from prospective purchaser. Accused failed to forward the gun and absconded. Payment of money order was stopped, but later Harrison obtained above amount, etc., by tendering the order on the representation that same would be payable within 7 days of issue. Warrant issuod. LANCASHIRE. 143.— Bolton ( Co.).— For obtaining 4s. 41d. by false pretences, at Westhoughton, 19th inst. - John Varey, alias Thomas Dainty, b. 1873, 5ft. 5in., slim build, c, fresh, h. and moustache sandy ; dress, dirty dk. suit and cap. Left Bolton on morning of tho 20th inst., travels from town to town selling tin ware and salt, etc. Called at branch shop of loser's, told manageress he had brought parcel of rock salt, which her employer had ordered, and she had to pay him at the rate of 3Jd. per lb. ( false). Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Turner, Bolton. 144.— Manchester ( City). For stealing £( i ( is. 3d. George Houghton, l>. 1878, 5ft. 8in., slim build, h. dk. brown, e. grey, clean shaven, slouching gait, speaks quickly ; dress, dk. grey suit, collar arid tie, cap, and black boots. Loser answered newspaper advertisement for partner in business. Partnership was arranged for business in the gold leaf substitute. An agreement was signed and loser paid £ 0 ( is. 3d., being half the amount for current stock. An office was rented and loser arranged to see Houghton there on 16th inst. Ormskirk ( Co.).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 23rd inst.— Richard Barrow, b. 1877, 5ft. 7| in., c. fresh, h. and moustache dk. brown ( turning grey), e. brown, cut mark on fore- head and chin ; dress, shabby white cotton corduroy trousers, dk. tweed jacket and vest, dk. muffler, grey cap, old black boots. A brick- layer ; native of Ormskirk. Called on loser, stated he had been doing some work for her husband who had sent him to her for payment, received same and absconded. Warrant issued. Edinburgh ( City).— For housebreaking ( breaking window and releasing bolt), 22nd inst.. and stealing motor car ( recovered).— John Lawrie McLuskie, b. 1906, 5ft. 6 or 7in., thin build, h. inclined fair ( believed long) ; dress, blue suit with white stripe, fawn rainproof overcoat ( blood stain inside at front), grey cap soft collar and tic ; simple appearance, Native of Linlithgow. May be found in common lodging houses. Escaped from Parkhead Reformatory in August, 1922, and has not since been recaptured. Sheriff's warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Edinburgh. 147. An engineer ; native of Redditch. Pre. con. of larceny, fraud, forgery, embezzlement, bigamy and a minor offence' at PRESTON, EDIN- BURGH, NORTHWICH, STRANGEWAYS ( Frederick Charles Grey), MANCHESTER ( Charles Frederick Grey) and WOLVERHAMPTON ( Frederick Garnett). Has also con. for fraud in U. S. A. Obtained lodgings stating he was employed by local engineering firm as foreman and travelled about erecting machinery.
