Four houses were broken into, entrance being affected by throwing a stone through window near catch, doors were then bolted on inside to prevent access. At one of the houses a safe was rolled downstairs and left on lawn, but no attempt made to force it. Near one of the houses a man was seen making for the roadway across a field and on being spoken to fired two shots without causing inj ury. Immediately afterwards another residence was entered by open- ing door and a revolver presented at maid who went for her mistress, the man followed, pointed the revolver at the mistress of the house and demanded £ 20. He at once fired at her, the bullet grazing her cheek and hitting the wall imme- diately behind. He then fired at a dog in the house and made off. A revolver cartridge was dropped by him marked U. M. It was later ascertained he had sold the paper and materials below cost price. Warrant issued.
