Native of Leatherhead. Was employed as butler, and during his service, stole the above property, which was missed after he had left. DEVONSHIRE. 3.— Okehampton ( Co.).— For forgery.— Charles Hayward Hughes, b. 1879, 5ft. 10in., medium build, c. dk., h. dk. bfown ( turning grey), clean shaven, long sharp features, Tather prominent nose, pointed chin ; dress, dk. grey suit ( tight fitting), and trilby hat, wore plain gold band 3i- d 1. finger. Held an appointment as Inspector of the Agricultural Wages Board, from September, 1919, to September, 1921. Frequently spoke of South Africa and may endeavour to leave the country. Was formerly Captain in Australian Imperial Forces. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Gordon, Okehampton. ESSEX. 4.— Brentwood ( Co.).— Alfred John Gardener, Case No. 1, 23- 1- 22, is identical with Alfred John Gardiner, C. R. O. No. 10095- 14, b. 1889, Oft. liin., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue. Elliott, b. about 1887 to 1892, 5ft. 6 or 7in., stout build, h. It. brown, full face, North Country or Scottish accent; dress, grey mixture coat and cap, It. boots with toecaps ; dirty appearance. Left by train for Worcester, via Malvern, 27th ult. Stated his intention of going to Alberta, Canada. Inf. to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. LANCASHIRE. 9.— Bury ( Co.).— John Webster, Case No. 108, 25- 1- 22, is identical with John Webster, alias Parks, C. R. O. Pickering, Bury. 10.— Manchester ( City).— Harold Wagstaffe, Case No. 128,25- 1- 22, is identical with Harold Wagstaffe, C. R. O. No. 4174- 16, b. 1892, 5ft 8in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue, mole back rt. neck. A fitter ; nativeof Manchester, where he has cons, for larceny and minor offences. Called on loser ( a school teacher) and represented he was an old pupil, stating he was an ex- service man and had been out of work for many months. Produced a letter purporting to have been sent to him from a friend residing in Lancaster offering him employment, and as he had no money for train fare, etc., obtained the money and boots. Afterwards ascertained that accused had not been a pupil of his school and that he had defrauded other teachers in like manner. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C. Manchester. 11.— Old Trafford ( Co.).— For stealing ( trick) ( 2 cases), 28th ult.— 21bs. bacon, 3 tins Nestle's milk, 2doz. eggs.— A Man, b. 1882 to 1892, 5ft. 6 or 7in., c. fresh, h. It clean shaven ; dress^ fawn overcoat, It. cap. white soft collar. Entered shops and ordered the above articles. When these were handed to him he gave a further order, and whilst the shopkeeper was attending to this, decamped. Inf. to Supt. Yates, Old Trafford. LINCOLNSHIRE. 12.— Spalding ( Co.).— For shopbreaking and stealing from a dentist's workshop, 23rd ult.— Gold upper plate ; do. lower plate ; sheet per- forated gold ; 7 old false teeth platinum pins ; gold plate, 2 x Jin. ( part, recovered).— Nathan Rolbin, b. about 1887, 5ft. Din., medium build, c. very dk., h. black ( curly), very thick eyebrows which meet in centre, clean shaven, rather red nose ; dress, nigger brown overcoat, velour trilby hat, fawn knitted gloves, carried square brown attache- case. SHROPSHIRE. 14.— Bridgnorth ( Co.).— Hector Pinkham, Case No. 8, 30- 1- 22, is identical with William Frederick Hector Pinkham, C. R. O. No. 1155- 13, b. 1887, 5ft. 5£ in., c. pale, h. black, e. hazel. Pre. con. of forgery and fraud at REIGATE and THORPE. Both cheques were drawn on the National Bank, Camden Town Branch ( L.). SURREY. 15— Guildford ( Boro.).— For robbery with violence, 28th ult.— Henry Wilson, b. * 1882 to 1887, about 5ft. 3 or 4in., stiff build, h. brown ( slightly turning grey), e. usually bloodshot, round face, clean shaven ; dress, fawn raincoat ( rather long, buttons close up to neck), check skull cap ( worn well over eyes), sometimes wears muffler or soft collar, black boots, dirty marks on clothing. A motor mechanic. Entered a small general shop and was about to rob the till when the proprietor entered. He presented what appeared to be an automatic pistol, telling the proprietor he would shoot him if he interfered. In the struggle that followed, the proprietor received a wound on the forehead from the instrument, and Wilson escaped, taking with him about £ 2. The instrument was afterwards found in the shop, and consisted of a King Dick spanner and tube spanner fixed in claw of same, together with small spirit level, the whole bound together with black insulation tape. May seek employment at motor garages, or assistance from Buffalo Lodges. May be found in lodging houses or workmen's homes. Inf. to the C. C., Guildford. 16.— Oxted ( Co.).— For stealing ( servant), quan- tity gent's clothing, etc. ( mostly recovered), at Lingfield, 6th ult.— Albert Victor Read, C. R. O. No. 24122- 17, b. 1900, 5ft. 6i n., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, scar over 1. eye, both thumbs double- jointed. A chef; native of Willenhall. SUSSEX ( WEST). 17.— Chichester ( Co.).— For shopbreaking and stealing property, Case No. 49, 27- 1- 22.— A Man who gave the name of Healey, b. about 1882, 5ft. 6in., c. fair, h. brown ( bald on top), moustache ( small) dk., high forehead ( wrinkled), slight lisp ; dress, grey herring- bone suit, celluloid collar, blue and white mixture tie, brown trilby hat, brown boots. YORKSHIRE ( EAST REDING). 18.— Hull ( City).— For obtaining £ 2 10s. by false pretences.— John Walker, C. R. O. No. 977- 03, Case No. 491, Supplement A ( Vol. VIII.), b. 1878, 5ft. 9iin., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, scar on and under chin ; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, grey herring- bone pattern trousers ( tight and short), dk. brown blanket cloth overcoat ( double breasted, Raglan shape, vent at back), bowler hat, lavender scarf, soft khaki collar, brown silk tie, brown boots, brown kid gloves. A marine en- gineer ; native of Sunderland. Pre. con. of fraud and horsestealing at NEWPORT ( MON.), SUN- DERLAND, NORTH SHIELDS, ABERAVON, GREENOCK, IPSWICH ( John Walker) and SWANSEA ( Alfred Young). Informed loser he was a Superintendent Engineer for an Italian firm, which had two steamers coming to Hull, and that ho would return the money when he received a cheque from the brokers. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 19.— Huddersfield ( Boro.).— For stealing ( servant) £ 4 18s. 9d., 2 bags, purse, lady's umbrella, ete., 24th ult.— Sarah Adelaide Farrar, abases Bray and Dobson, C. R. O. No. 298- 17, Cases Nos. 82, 16- 1- 22, and 233, Supplement A ( Vol. IV.), b. 1879, 5ft. 2£ in., slim build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. brown, cut scar rt, thumb ; dress, grey three- quarter coat, dk. skirt and blouse, black trilby shaped hat, A weaver , native of Leeds. Pre. con. of larceny at LEEDS, WAKE- FIELD, SPILSBY ( Sarah Adelaide Farrar) and GAINSBOROUGH ( Annie Turner). Advertised in the Yorkshire Evening News for a situation as housekeeper to a working man. Loser answered advertisement and Farrar replied from an address at Beeston, signing as Mrs. Turner; was engaged on the 20th ult. and absconded 24th ult. with the above property. Warrant issued. Pownall, b. 1892 to 1894, 5ft. 8in., medium build, c. pale, h. fair, believed clean shaven, refined speech, well educated ; dress, blue suit, grey overcoat with half belt and velvet collar, silk scarf, bowler or It. trilby hat, brown boots, smart appearance. Answered an advertisement in the Motor Cycle, inserted by Rowland Drury, offering a Triumph motor cycle for sale, and induced loser to forward the cycle, promising to send cheque for same. On receipt of the cycle, he disposed of it, and received in exchange a Remington typewriter; lady's 18ct. 5- stone diamond ring ; gent's 18ct. single stone diamond ring, claw setting ; table grand gramophone and 50 records ; gent's 9ct. albert with 9ct. drop; cheque for £ 19; and £ 1. Gave receipt in the name of Rowland Drury, with an address at Luton. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Needham, Smethwick.
