On 9th ult., wired from Harwich to a local hotel, asking for rooms to be reserved. Arrived same day and remained there, and at another hotel, until the lst inst. During his stay entertained well known business men, and when asked for payment stated he had no unused cheques, but made out orders for payment on the hotel notepaper, one drawn on the Bank of Ireland, Galway Branch, and one on Coutt's Bank, 420, Strand, London. CITY OF LONDON. 102.— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences, otli ult.— John Redfern, aliases Horrocks and Herbert, b. 1876, 5ft. 7in., stout build, c. fresh, h. and moustache It. brown ( turning grey), round face, plausible ; dress, blue serge suit, dk. overcoat, double collar, black bowler hat; smart appearance. Advertised in provincial newspapers for agents for credit draper and clothier, and received deposits of the above amount from applicants as security on samples, which he failed to send. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Thompson, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. 2. by loser as manservant, made an appointment to meet the latter in London, and took advantage of loser's absence to steal the above property. Warrant issued. Inf. to Insp. Whiting, Rochford. DERBYSHIRE. 103.— Renishaw ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 2 9s. by false pretences.— Joseph Larvin, aliases Jones and Morris, b. about 1881, 5ft. 10 or llin., c. sallow, h. brown, nose broken ( broad at base) ; dress, brown suit, dk. trilby hat ( pulled over eyes) : dirty appearance. Believed native of Nottingham. Called on the wife of a greengrocer with a quantity of potatoes, which he stated had been ordered by her husband at the local market ( false), and obtained above amount in payment. The potatoes were found to be diseased and of inferior quality. Associates with low class hawkers and horse dealers. Frequents vegetable markets, etc. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Andrew, Renishaw. ESSEX. 104.— Rochford ( Co.).— For stealing ( 1) Triumph motor cycle, Case No. 70, current issue, and ( 2) housebreaking and stealing, at South Benfleet, 17th inst.— Gent's Waterbury gold filled watch ; 2 plated cake dishes ; do. tea and coffee service ; do. egg cruet; 2 do. jam spoons ; 6 silver serviette rings, monogram C. O. R. in plain block letters; 24 tea spoons ; 2 silver salt cellars and spoons, in black case, plush lined ; about 6 silver salt and mustard spoons; It. grey cloth suit ( including 2 pairs trousers) ; blue serge suit ( including 3 pairs tro" users) ; morning suit, believed grey ; black dinner jacket suit, all to fit man 5ft. Sin.— Charles Robinson, b. 1892, 5ft. 9in., slim build, c. fair ( face tanned).— A Man, b. 1896, 5ft. 6 or 7in., believed clean shaven ; Jewish appearance ; dress, overcoat, skull cap. Robinson had been employed LINCOLNSHIRE. 106.— Grimsby ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences at Healing, 16th inst.— A Man, who gave the name of Lennox, b. about 1896, Sft. 6 or 7m., c. dk., h. dk. brown ( brushed back), clean shaven, rather full face, broad nose, London accent; dress, dk. blue ( believed pilot cloth) overcoat, It. suit, It. grey cap, collar and tie, brown shoes. Called on loser, stated he had come from the County Court ( false) to collect the Income Tax, that he had seen his brother- in- law ( whose name he mentioned) and that it would be in order if loser paid him. He stated the amount due was £ 19, but there was a rebate of £ 9. Was given the above amount, and then asked the way to the Post Office, as the receipt would require a stamp. A boy was sent with him, and on arrival there, he handed him Is. 3d., stating the receipt would be sent by post. Was in possession of a bicycle. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Falgate, Grimsby. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 107.— Northampton ( Boro.).— For stealing £ 12 4s. and obtaining £ 7 by false pretences, 1 st and 2nd Oct., 1920.— J. J. Fraser, b. about 1876, 5ft, 10in., slim build, c. fresh, h. brown, e. ( believed) blue, slight moustache, stoops a little, well spoken. Native of Scotland. Was employed under the Disposal and Liquidation Commission as officer in charge of depot at Northampton, and has previously been employed as a solicitor's clerk. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Northampton.
