A journalist or bookbinder ; native of Plymouth. Pre. con. of fraud, forgery, embezzlement, larceny, cyclestealing and a minor offence at ENNISKILLEN ( Frank Harling), DEVONPORT ( John Henry Gooding), PLY- MOUTH ( Henry Gooding), ALDERSHOT ( Frank Hall) and on V and W. Called on furniture dealers, house agents, tailors, etc., and by one or other of the following representations," obtained money by worthless cheques. ( 1) That he had bought a house and required a large quantity of furniture for same. Paid a deposit by cheque of £ 200 to inspire confidence, then produced a cheque for £ 10, purporting to have come from the proprietors of a newspaper, as wages due to him, and induced loser to cash same stating he tvas temporarily short of ready money. ( 2) Signed a contract and agreed to purchase a house for £ 900, and gave a cheque for £ 100 as deposit. Then per.- us ded the clerk to cash a cheque or £ 10 in a similar manner to ( 1). ABERDEENSHIRE. 4. —- Aberdeen ( Co.).— For stealing ( dwelling) £ 85 in £ 5 notes on North of Scotland and Town and County Bank — John Barclay Robertson Beaton, b. 1907 ( looks older), 5ft. 4 or 5in., c. ruddy, h. It., e. bluo, full face ; dress, grey tweed suit, fawn waterproof coat with band and buckle, white shirt, soft collar, dk. tie, It. grey cap, boots. Left for Liverpool 22nd inst,, where he endeavoured to change the notes for foreign money. May endeavour to go abroad. Sheriff's warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Aberdeen. CHESHIRE. 5.— Wallasey ( Boro.).— For stealing, ' 20th inst., from a hotel bedroom, lady's diamond cluster ring ( recovered).— A Man, who gave the name Jones and Harold Jackson, b. 1881 to 1891, 5ft. 9in., medium build, c. sallow, h. dk. brown, e. brown, small dk. moustache, high fore- head, thin features ; dress, grey suit, collar, dk. tie, bowler hat, black boots or shoes. British Warm dyed black, carried an ash walking- stick. The ring was pawned 21st inst. Inf. to the C. C., Wallasey. 6.— Wallasey ( Boro.).— For stealing ( lodgings), 17th inst .. pearl breast- pin and at out £ 5: and obtaining money bv false pretences.— Jonathan Jones, alias Williams, b. about 1896, oft. lOin.. thin build, o. pale, h. and e. dk. brown, slightly vacant look, feigns deafness : dress, fawn trench coat, It. trilby hat, black boots. Native of Wallasey. Obtained lodgings with loser and stated he was a detective with the Army in Egypt ( false). Left on 17th inst., when it was found a cash- box had been forced open and the above propeety and money taken. Visited hi: old schoolmaster and told him he was in the Wireless Section in Egypt. Stated that his pocket had been picked and asked for and obtained sufficient money to take him to Crewe. Inf. to the C. C., Wallasey. DEVONSHIRE. 7.— Chudleigh ( Co.). For stealing ( bailee), watch and chain ( recovered).— James Whitman, b. 1885, 5ft. 8in., c. fresh, clean shaven, deformity one leg ; dress, ( usually) It. tweed coat and vt st, dk. trousers, collar and tie, grey}, cap ; usually carries brown leather handbag. R< presc nt* d he was a watch and clock repairer, obtained the above to repair, and absconded, after pledging same. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Carey, Chudleigh. DURHAM. 8.— South Shields ( Boro.).— For stealing ( servant), brown leather cash bag and £ 32 14s. 9d., 22nd inst.— John Thomas George Voase, b. 1S04' 5ft. 6 or 7in., thin build, c. fresh, h. fair, clean shaven, 1. shoulder droops ( silver plate therein, as result of wounds) : dress, double breasted brown cloth overcoat, blue pin stripe jacket suit, grey fleecy cap ( dirty), soft collar, dk. tie, black shoes, wore imitation gold and platinum double albert, fine links. Native of Gateshead. Was employed as doorkeeper at a picture house and was entrusted with the above bag and money to take to the bank. He failed to return and absconded. Is in receipt of an Army pension. Formerly attended markets, selling boots, etc., and has recently visited Edin burgh and Glasgow. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., South Shields. 9.— South Shields ( Boro.).— For stealing, by shop- breaking ( breaking window), 20th inst.— Webley & Scott automatic revolver, .32, blue barrel and fittings, No. 131904.- A Man. b. 1S81 to 1886, oft. 4 to 6in., heavy build, dk. moustache ( may be false), dk. appearance : dress, dk. grey jacket, dk. trousers, It. grey cap ( dirty, pulled well down over forehead). Was seen to break the window with an instrument and abstract the above weapon there- from, afterwards riding away on a bicycle. Inf. to the C. C., South Shie'ds. Monday, November 28, 1921. LINCOLNSHIRE. 11— Gainsborough ( Co.).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 23rd inst.— Percy Bellamy, b. 1886, 5ft. 4 or 5in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, sbght moustache, slight impediment in peech ; dress, dk. suit ( trousers patched on 1. knee with different material), dk. overcoat, flannel shirt with green stripe ( di ty), white rubber collar, black boots. Took lodgings at a shop and stated he had two kits of fish at the Great Central Railway ( false). Obtained the above amount to pay the carriage, and absconded. May be found at markets. A labourer ; native of Leamington. Pre. eon. of larceny, burglary, shopbreaking, sacrilege, housebreaking, forging and uttering and a minor offence at LEAMING- TON, PONTYPRIDD, SHEFFIELD ( Joseph Samuel Brooks), BIRMINGHAM ( George Hunt) and BRISTOL ( John Williams). Was engaged to carry a portmanteau to a house and allowed to take it into the bedroom. After hehad left the above articles were missed. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. May, Birmingham. In possession of bicycle with dropped handle- bars, brown canvas satchel attached to frame under saddle. ( deep), biscuit and floral coloured silk lining, semi- fitting 2- piece back, fitted with chamois leather vest with black satin strippings across, collar of vest overlapping collar of coat, very small size. C., Liverpool. 35.— Rochdale ( Co.).— 21st inst., from a dwelling house at Middleton.— Lady's black lather satchel, 2 compartments, lined fawn coloured leather, containing Yale lock key, believed No. 25801. and £ 3.— Suspicion is attached to A Man, b. 1871 to 1876,5ft. 5in., medium build, c. fresh ; dress. dk. clothing ( shabby), cap, boots.
