METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division.— For stealing ( trick), 23rd inst., two £ 1000 Bank of England notes, Nos. 32G66 and 32670, dated 20th May, 1918.- Two Men : lst, b. about 1879, 5ft. 5in., stout build, c. sallow, h. brown, clean shaven, high forehead, gold tooth in front upper jaw ; dress, grey suit, It. trilby hat. — 2nd, b. about 1886, 5ft. 6 or 7in., c. sallow, h. brown, clean shaven, bottom and 3 top teeth platinum cased ; dress, grey suit, brown trilby hat. Believed to be Russian Jews or Poles. The 2nd man cannot speak much English. Invited loser to an hotel to purchase jewellery, which was contained in a small new attache- case. The transaction was completed and loser shortly after leaving the hotel found the attache- case had been substituted by a similar one and contained empty jewel- cases. Inf. to C. R. O. and entering a motor garage ( forcing padlock with a blunt instrument) and stealing a motor cycle and, sidecar ( recovered), 23rd ult., and ( 2) shop- breaking ( forcing door with a blunt instrument), 27th ult., and stealing 8 lady's white chemises ; 12 crepe de chine camisoles ; 4 crepe de chine blouses ; 18 gent's soft collars, some marked I. Brown ; 12 gent's handkerchiefs; and a quantity of con- fectionery.— Thomas Malyon, alias Thomas Brown, C. R. O. No. 1070- 10, b. 1893, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. brown, clean shaven, scar 1. of eyebrow, chin and forefinger ; dress, rough blue serge suit, grey trilby hat or cap. Pre. con. of horsestealing, cyclestealing, larceny and minor offences at BRISTOL ( Thomas Malyon), in CITY OF LONDON ( George Wilson) and on N.— Vivian Lister, known as Vic ( no pre. con. traced), b. 1902, 5ft. liin., slim build, h. It., clean shaven, stammers slightly; dress, dk. brown tweed suit and cap. Inf. to C. R. O. 2.-— E Division.— For obtaining credit by fraud. — Alexander Victor Robertson, b. 1876, 5ft. 10in., c. fresh, h. dk. ( turning grey), e. blue ; dress, blue serge suit, black bowler hat, black lace boots, white soft collar, striped tie. Native of Stirlingshire. Stayed at an hotel, ran up a bill and, when asked to settle, stated that he was having a cheque sent through from his employers at Liverpool ( false), was allowed to incur a debt to the amount of £ 27 and then left without being observed. No. 323- 17, and Edward George Coble ( in custody), in ( 1) breaking 4.— R Division.— For stealing ( lodgings), gent's 9ct. albert and £ 7, 6th inst.— Harry Clifton, alias James Leslie, C. R. O. No. 1145- 08, Case No. 250, Supplement A ( Vol. VIII.), b. 1888, 5ft. 6| in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. hazel, clean shaven, scar forehead and back of neck ; dress, brown tweed suit, grey velour hat, brown shoes, turned down collar and tie. A brass finisher; native of Northampton. Pre. con. of larceny, fraud, and attempted fraud at LINS- LADE, MAIDENHEAD ( James Rice), NORTH- ALLERTON ( James Ismay), LINCOLN ( James Harrison), BEVERLEY ( James Rose), NEW- CASTLE- ON- TYNE ( James Fielding), SCAR- BOROUGH ( John Fielding), ACCRINGTON ( James Bentley), ILKESTON ( Harry James) and on S, T and V. Induced the landlady to leave the house to make a small purchase for him, and in her absence took the above mentioned property and absconded. Inf. to C. R. O. 5.— V Division.— For obtaining £ 15 by false pretences ( worthless cheque on Guaranty Trust Coy. of New York, 29, Kingsway, W. C.), 15th inst.— Albert E. Charlesworth, b. 1891 to 1896, 6ft. lOin., thin build, b. black ( parted centre), e. brown, clean shaven, jagged scar on neck under- neath larynx, wears spectacles with tortoiseshell rims and ear- pieces, strong American accent; dress, It. grey sports suit or navy blue jacket suit, It. grey trilby or white straw hat, brown shoes ( American Walkover or Enghsh brogue). Native of America. Engaged a room at a hotel on 6th inst., where he met another American whom he satisfied by signs that he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epselon Fraternity. Stated his father was an optical instrument manufacturer in Michigan, U. S. A., also that he had served in the American Air Force during the war. Obtained the above money from another resident to enable him to fly to Paris on urgent business. Frequents hotels and gains tho confidence of other visitors, whom he defrauds by worthless cheque. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. CUMBERLAND AND WESTMORLAND. 6.— Carlisle ( City).— For stealing 2 clarionets ( recovered), 9th inst.- Wallace Raymond, aliases Wallace Eric Raymond and Thomas William Raymond, C. R. O. No. 4732- 18, b. 1899, 5ft. 6in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. hazel, scar rt. cheek, chin and back rt. lst finger. A musician; native of London. Pre. con. of larceny on D and E. Deserted 9th inst., from Border Regt. Depot, Carlisle, taking with him the above clarionets, and proceeded to Newcastle where he disposed of tho property for £ 2 15s. He there gave his name as W. J. Ellison, stated he had come from Carlisle and was making his way to London. Before leaving Carlisle he discarded his uniform, except his trousers, and will probably be found wearing stolen property, which he took from a dwelling house on the day of the theft, con- sisting of dk. grey coat and vest, It. fawn raincoat ( tartan lining, cut at back, patch on coat at back near bottom), grey trilby hat with black band, white soft collar and brown tie. He may endeavour to- enlist under an assumed name. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Carlisle. DURHAM. 7.— Gateshead ( Boro.).— For stealing clothing ( recovered) from dwelling, 21st inst.-— Margaret Dixon, aliases Bevons and Lily Irving, b. 1902, medium height, slender build, c. fresh ( freckled), h. dk. brown ( bobbed), e. dk. brown ; dress, blue serge skirt, slate coloured blouse, brown silk close fitting hat, It. silk stockings, black lace shoes ; good appearance. Native of Gateshead. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Gateshead. HERTFORDSHIRE. 8.— Hertford ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 8 by false pretences, 5th inst.— James Neil Campbell, b. about 1876, about 5ft. 4in., medium build, c. fresh, h. and moustache brown, well spoken, apparently well educated ; dress, brown mixture suit, nearly new, brown trilby hat, white collar, dk. tie ( red stripes), button boots, patent toecaps. Stated thf$ his wife had deserted him and his three children, and that he wanted money to trace her. Presented a cheque for £ 25, on Capital & Counties Bank, but was informed same could not be cashed owing to his being a stranger. He made a declaration before a J. P. that he had £ 3300 worth of securities in Lloyd's Bank, Luton Branch, and was then paid £ 8 on account. The cheque was afterwards returned marked Account Closed. Accompanied by two boys and a girl, ages about 2i yrs., 5 mos. and 4 yrs. respectively, all very fair, in clean con- dition and dressed in blue clothes. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Ebling, Hertford. LANCASHIRE. 9 — Chorley ( Co.).— Robert Good, Case No. 9, 27- 7- 21, is identical with Robert Good, C R 0 No. 10493- 21, b. 1900, 5ft. 7in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. blue. Pre. con. of fraud on railway and a minor offence on X. Inf. to Supt. Marshall, Chorley. 10.— Manchester ( City).— William Bissett, Case No. 117, 13- 7- 21, is identical with William Bissett, C. R. O. No. S/ 81326, b. 1881, 6ft. lin., c. fresh, h. It., e. grey. A waiter; native of Perth. Pre. con. of fraud and theft at EDINBURGH, GLAS- GOW and DUBLIN. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. ( long and brushed back), e. blue, thin face, nervous disposition ; dress, navy blue suit. Was employed as a clerk by a firm of millers and authorised to receive money on their account. Gave receipts, but only accounted for part of the money he received. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Smith, Loughborough. RUTLANDSHIRE. 12.— Oakham ( Co.).— For stealing ( bailee), 12th inst., gent's B. S. A. bicycle, dull black enamelled, North Road upturned handle- bars ( very con- spicuous), black grips with ends missing, new front forks, Eadie coaster back- pedalling brake, no front brake or mudguard, 26in. frame, sloping top bar with dent near head, 7iin. cranks, new Lycett saddle, rubber pedals ( cap off left one), tool- bag, front and rear lamp brackets, no step, cut in front tyre— Frederick John Spencer, b. 1894, 5ft. 7in., medium build, h. and e. brown, clean shaven, tattooed lady in bathing costume 1., Buffalo Bill, bust of lady as cowboy, Faith, Hope and Charity rt. forearm", bullet wound back of 1. hand or thumb ; dress, It. brown suit, trousers turned up, black trilby hat, soft white collar, tie, wears three medals ( European War); of respectable appearance. A pedlar. Stayed at a common lodging house for about 10 days and hired a bicycle on several occasions to go round the outlying villages with the pedlar's usual stock in trade which he carried in a brown paper holdall. Absconded on above date. Accompanied by his wife and two children— Johnnie, age 1 year and 8 mos., and Martha, age 5 mos. Had in his possession: a white wicker mail cart, with a small brown portmanteau attached. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Golder, Oakham. STAFFORDSHIRE. 13.— Newcastle ( Co.).— For rape and robbery, 21st inst.— Gent's brown morocco leather purse ; 2 geography books, may be stamped Staffordshire County Council inside ; 2 copies of Teachers' World", dated 13th and 20th July ; oblong collaps- ible aluminium box, about 9in. by 4Jin.; oblong attache- case, about 12in. long, brown imitation leather, with flap, and steel handle, fastens with 2 buckles ; and 3s. 9d.— A Man, b. 1881 to 1880, 5ft. 6 or 7in., medium build, 2 or 3 days growth of beard ; dress, dk. grey suit, black bowler hat; respectable appearance. The injured person was walking across a field when she was overtaken by the above described man, who was riding a bicycle. He threw her to the ground, struck her with a hammer and penknife, committed the above offence, stole the property, and rode away. Left behind a small hammer with one round and one chisel shaped end, yellow varnish stained handle with 3. P. Nibbs or Hibbs thereon; and a pocket knife about 2£ in. long, one blade, very sharp pointed, metal handle made in one piece by a piece of sheet steel bent into shape. Inf. to Supt. Hall, Newcastle. WARWICKSHIRE. 14.— Warwick ( Co.).— For stealing, 22nd inst., brown mare ( aged), white star on forehead, white hind fetlock, full mane, short tail, ringbone on rt. forefoot, which is shod with a bar shoe ; buff coloured cart, very heavy, with side boards. 8 new spokes in near side wheel, small hole end of off side shaft. F. Baker, Warwick, newly painted in white letters off side ; set of heavy harness, with brass fittings, martingale and leading rein ; in good condition.— Frederick Baker, b. about 1886, 5ft 2 or 3in., medium build, small fair moustache ; dress, khaki trousers, brown soft felt trilby hat, dk. jacket with belt round waist, no collar or tie, Native of Birmingham. Was instructed by his employer to take the horse and cart from Coventry to Warwick. He did so, but returned later and stole same. Travelled' with horse and cart to Birmingham, where he was last seen. It., e. blue, clean shaven, very plausible ; dress, dk. shabby coat and vest, navy blue trousers, brown trilby hat, white linen collar, black knitted tie with geld brooch tiepin, black low shoes. Represented himself as steward on board the s. s. Somerton in dock at Liverpool, asked loser if he would like t > go to sea, as he required a 2nd steward cn his ship and if he consented it would be necessarj- to join the Union which would cost 8s. He also asked loser for a photograph cf himself for the purpose cf showing to the captain of this boat, who was supposed to be staying at a first class hotel in the district. Wrote out a letter purporting to have come from the captain which asked him to pay the 8s. immediately and take another scaled packet to the American Consul at Liverpool Docks the following day. Entered a jeweller's shep and asked to see different articles with a view to purchase. After selecting three articles, stated she had not sufficient money with her to pay for same and left the shop, ostensibly to obtain the remainder cf the money, when the above property was missed.
