SPECIAL NOTICE In view of - the decision of the Government to discontinue deliveries of letters on Sunday, the Postmaster- General has notified the Commissioner that Sunday deliveries to New Scotland Yard will be discontinued on and after the 12th June. If Provincial Forces have any matter of impor- tance which demands immediate attention on a Sunday morning, they should make use of either the telephone or telegraph— or, if a letter must be sent, it should be made an express letter or sent by train ; in the latter case a telegram being sent giving details as to time of arrival, etc. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— X Division.— For stealing a cheque and forging and uttering same.— Clarence Shaw, alias Dibb, b. 1881 to 1886, oft, 8in„ c. ruddy ( has the appearance of a heavy drinker), h. dk. brown ( bald on top), e. brown ; dress, blue suit., fawn mackintosh, bowler hat, black boots. It., e. blue, sore on 1. cheek, nose slightly turned up at end ; dressed in the articles described above, and wearing a pair of high heeled black shoes. Was an inmate of The Francis Owen Home, and was employed as a day girl at a private house. S.— Sheffield ( City).— For converting the sum of 5s. to his own use, on or about 5- 4- 21.— L. M. Cooke, l>. 1885, 6ft., ordinary build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown ( thin on top), e. brown, clean shaven ; dress, probably sports jacket, tweed hat, and carries a mackintosh and heavy walking stick. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 184 APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT— continued. to a local charitable organization for assistance; after which he became engaged by the General Secretary of the Sheffield Guild of Help in clerical work. He continued this occupation until early in April when he was engaged to solicit orders for the supply of Roll of Honour Memorial tablets for which purpose he was supplied with receipt book in triplicate and a specimen memorial tablet which he carried about wrapped in a piece of dk. oil sheet. The conditions of his engagement were that he should canvas for orders in Sheffield only, and that he should report to his employer every night. This he failed to do and removed to Norfolk and Suffolk where he was last operating. The receipts which he possessed were numbered 20151 to 20168, but instead of making receipts out in triplicate he has been making them singly which will make the number of his receipt forms threefold. Whilst canvassing for orders in Norfolk and Suffolk he has received varying amounts from 2s. 6d. to 10s. on deposit and has promised that the tablet would be supplied about a week later but has failed to submit any order to the office from which the order would be supplied. No. 1380- 16, b. 1896, 4ft. 11' in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey. A factory hand ; native of Oxford. Pre. con. of larceny and minor offences at BIRMING- HAM ( Mabel East) and OXFORD ( Lizzie East). Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Windsor. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE . 100.— Kettering ( Co.).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 4th and 6th inst.-— A Man, who gave the names of William Arkell Lilley and T. Wilson, b. 1881 to 1886, 5ft. 5 or 6in., c. sallow, h. dk., small brown mous- tache, sharp features, blue ring tattooed third 1. finger; dress, blue serge woollen mixture suit, It. cap, collar, tie with white flower worked therein, black boots ( Navy pattern) ; had in his possession a small imitation fancy gold case watch. Stated he was a surveyor from the War Office, and was going to superintend the laying of a telephone cable from London to Leicester ( false). Hired a motor car to proceed to Leicester to seal contracts, and failed to pay for same. Appears identical with Man, Cases Nos. 77 ( Ilminster), 23- 5- 21, 82 ( Brentwood), 27- 5- 21, and 83 ( Marlborough), 30- 5- 21. Warrant issued. Inf. to the D. C. C., Kettering. SUFFOLK ( EAST). 102.— Ipswich ( Boro.).— For stealing a raincoat from his lodgings, 6th inst.— William Waters, alias Harvey, C. R. O. No. 5855- 20, b. 1896, 5ft. 7iin. proportionate build, c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue ; dress, dk. grey suit, grey cap, white soft collar, coloured tie, brown boots, may be wearing the stolen coat. States he is an Australian, lost two brothers in the War, and his mother died from shock. Speaks of a brother in Australia from whom he is expecting some money. Native of Ashford. Pre. con. of cyclestealing and larceny at HARWICH ( William Lewis Terry) and in M. P. D. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Ipswich. SUSSEX ( WEST). 103.— Worthing ( Co.).— Jessie Franklin, Case No. 65, 6- 6- 21, is identical with Jessie Franklin, C. R. O. No. 6266- 14, b. 1891, 5ft. 3in., c. pale, h. and e. brown. Pre. con. of larceny on B and J. Also wanted on warrant on B for breach of recognizance. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Avis, Worthing. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 101.— Nottingham ( City).— For stealing 50 postal drafts, value £ 10 each, numbers G. P./ 2/ 927101 to 927150, on or about 28- 4- 21.— Harold Booth, b. about 1889, 5ft. 9in., proportionate build, h. dk., sloping forehead, thin hps, oval face, clean shaven. Was employed as clerk by the War Pensions Committee from 19th April to 3rd ult. On 4th ult. a letter was received by his employers saying that he had been called away on urgent business and that he would return the following day, but he failed to do so. Twenty- seven of the postal drafts have been cashed at various post oifices in London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Rugby and Derby. Is stated to be an ex- officer in receipt of a disability pension. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Nottingham.
