POLICE GAZETTE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11TH, 1914. No. 50, VOL. I. Convicts on Licence, persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Crimes Acts, and the Prisoners ( Temporary Discharge for 111 Health) Act, 1913. Those bearing names marked thus * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a lioence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate or Police Officer; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder ia not required to carry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce a licence, it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say, vide Sec. 5, Sub- sec. 1, 27 & 28 Vict., cap. 47, which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licence or show some reasonable excuse why he does not produce the same. " N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portrait. Sentenced at Stafford Sess., 18.10.1910, to 5 yrs.' pen. for cyclestealing. Liberated on licence, 17.7.1914, to Milton, Staffs. Failed to notify his change of address, 2.12.1914. Pre. con. of fowlstealing, cyclestealing, larceny and minor offences. Known to police at LEEK, STAFFORD, DUBLIN and KILMAINHAM. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Stoke- on- Trent. 439. Stowmarket ( County). * FOLKARD, HENRY, C. R. O. No. 1212- 08, age 38, ht. 5ft. 8iin., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue, scar rt. eyebrow, 4th rt. finger contracted; dress, dk. jacket and vest, cord trousers, grey cap, heavy lace boots. A labourer; native of Benacre, Suffolk. Sentenced at Bury St. Edmunds Sess., 31.10.1911, to 4 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence, 5.11.1914, to Ipswich. Failed to notify his change of address, 20.11.1914. Pre. con. of cyclestealing and miscellaneous lar- cenies. Known to police at WOODBRIDGE, LOWES- TOFT, STRADBROKE, SOUTHWOLD, IPS- WICH, BECCLES and IXWORTH. Information to Supt. Cooper, Stowmarket. 440. Cannock ( County). * SMITH, JOHN, alias James Eardley, C. R. O. No. 1307- 03 ( Case No. 75, POLICE GAZETTE, 4th inst.), age 39, ht. 5ft. 8in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. hazel, scar bridge of nose and rt. of forehead. A labourer; native of Derby. Sentenced at Knutsford Sess., 3.1.1912, to 3 yrs.' pen. ( and remanet of former sentence) for countinghousebreaking. Liberated on licence, 25.11.1914, to Stafford, which expires 29.8.1915 ( 13 days' appellant). Failed to notify his change of address, 25.11.1914. Pre. con. of shopbreaking, housebreaking, lar- ceny, etc. Known to police at TUNSTALL, BURSLEM, SWADLINCOTE, GREAT WITLEY, COVEN- TRY and WILMSLOW. May be dealt with where found. 441. Criminal Record Office. WALKER, GILBERT, alias Thomas Walker, C. R. O. No. 493- 13, age 24, ht. 4ft. 10in., c. pale, h. brown, e. grey. A labourer; native of London. Sentenced at Birmingham Sess., 14.11.1912, to 6 mos.' impt. and 2 yrs.' supn. for shopbreaking. Liberated, 14.4.1913, to Birmingham. Proceeded from Cardiff to Port Talbot, without reporting, joined the s. s. " Aagot," is said to have deserted the vessel at Bordeaux, 30.9.14, and no- thing has since been heard of him. Pre. con. of stealing lead at ASTON and subse- quent con. at SHEFFIELD of shopbreaking. If found in this country during period of super- vision he may be dealt with where found. 442. Criminal Record Office. • HOWARD, HENRY, aliases, William Ken- nedy, John Killingley, George Wayland, William Maitland, Alfred Francis Snow, William Egan, William Browning, William Wayland and William Henery, C. R. O. No. 2022- 09, age 30, ht. 5ft. 6| in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. blue, scar on cnin and 1. eyebrow, very protruding ears. Sentenced at Chester Sess., 1.7.1912, to 3 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence,. 19.10.1914, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving service of notice, Insp. Brind, D. Failed to report at Tottenham Court Rd. Pol. Sta., D Divn., Met. Pol., 19.11.1914. Pre. con. of larceny and minor offences. Known to police at GLOUCESTER, DERBY, ST. HELENS, LISCARD and on C, D, E, L and S DIVNS., MET. POL. For portrait and method see Case No. 284, Supplement A. Information to the above Office. 443. Cardiff ( City). * IVENS, WILLIAM, aliases, William Ivins and William Henry Ivans, C. R. O. No. 1265- 06, age 54, ht. 5ft. 4| in., c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. grey, nose inclined to rt., mole rt. of upper lip, ship in full sail rt. forearm. Sentenced at Cardiff Assizes, 7.3.1910, to 5 yrs.' pen. for making counterfeit coin. Liberated on licence ( after undergoing 1 mo.' s impt. for failing to report), 28.10.1914, to Cardiff. Reported his address on release but failed to reside there and nothing further has been heard of him. Pre. con. of shopbreaking, possessing counterfeit coin, etc. Known to police at MONMOUTH, CARDIFF, USK and LLANDAFF. For portrait see Case No. 234. May be dealt with where found. Friday, December 11, 1914. POLICE GAZETTE SUPPLEMENT B. 3 Apprehension Sought on Revocation of Licence. 444. Prison Commission for Scotland. For failing to comply with the conditions of his licence, which has been revoked.— CHARLES JOHNSON, aliases, Charles Cooper, Charles Peters and Henry Cowper, C. R. O. No. 600- 01, age 76, ht. 5ft. 6Jin., c. sallow, h. grey ( bald on top), e. Liberated on preventive detn. licence, 30.6.1914, to Dundee, he absconded, 19th ult., from his ap- proved address and it is thought he may have proceeded to England. Pre. con. of housebreaking, shopbreaking, bur- glary, larceny, etc. Known to police at NORTH SHIELDS, grey, long cut scar on forehead, 3rd 1. finger am- SOUTH SHIELDS, DURHAM, GLASGOW, putated at 3rd joint. HULL, NEWCASTLE, DARLINGTON, YORK Sentenced at Edinburgh High Ct., 23.7.1909, and HADDINGTON, to 7 yrs.' pen. ( and remanet of 1 yr. 205 days) Information to the Prison Commissioners for for housebreaking. On 25.6.1913, residue of sen- Scotland, Edinburgh, tence was commuted to preventive detention.
