CONFIDENTIAL, Supplement B. : THE POLICE GAZETTE FRIDAY, MARCH 13TH, 1914. No. 11, VOL. I. Convicts on Licence, persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Grimes Acts, and the Prisoners ( Temporary Discharge for 111 Heath) Act, 1913. Those bearing names marked thus * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a licence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate or Police Officer; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder is not required to carry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce a licence, it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say, vide Sec. 5, Sub- sec. 1, 27 & 28 Vict., cap. 47, which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licence or show some reasonable excuse why he does not produce the same. N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portraits. No. 1683- 05, age 33, lit. 5 7 in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue, mole rt. cheek and lower lip, L. R. F. C. E. and heart 1. forearm, clasped hands and heart 1. wrist, pierce I heart back 1. hand. A native of Portsmouth. Sentenced. at Dorset Sess., 5.4.1911, to 8 yrs. pail, ( and remanet of former sentence) for attempted frau 1 and attempted larceny. Liberated on licence, 12.2.1914, to Weymouth, which expires 9.1.1915. Lsft his registered address, 27.2.1914. and has not since been heard of. An expert forger and confirmed swindler who obtains money by means of bogus seamen's advance notes. Known to police at Bristol, Aston, Stockton, West Hartlepool, Newport ( Mon.), Glasgow/, Liverpool and Cardiff. May be dealt with where found. Airest is also sought at Dorchester for fraud, see " Police Gazette," Case No. 5, current issue. 99. Criminal Record Office. * DEALING, JOSEPH, alias's, WILLIAM and JOSEPH DEELING. CR. O., No. 876- 01 ( Illustrated Circular 39, fig. 15), age 48, ht. 5 ft. 2f in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown ( nearly bald), e. blue- grey, two scars rt. eyebrow, both arms tattooed ; weak minded. Sentenced at Surrey Assizes, 25.11.08, to 7 yrs.' pen. for arson and larceny. Liberated on licence, 5.1.1914, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving identity, P. S. Sharp, ( P), C. I. D. Officer proving service of notice, Stn. P. S. Earl, 80 W. Failed to report at South Norwood Pol. Stn., W. Divn., Met. Pol., 5.3.1914. A troublesome burglar and shopbreaker who effects entry by breaking window and pushing back catch. Known on W. Divn., Met. Pol. Information to above Office. 100. Criminal Record Offiee. METCALF, JOHN THOMAS, alias JOHN MET- CALF, C. R. O. No. 185- 00, age 45, ht. 5 ft. in., c. fresh, h. It. brown ( thin on top), e. grey, nose been broken. Sentenced at N. L S., 11.2.1908, to 4 yrs.' pen. and 3 yrs. supn. for horsestealing. Liberated on licence, 4.2 1911, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving identity, P. S. Butters ( Y), C. I. D. Officerproving service of notice, Insp. Waterman, N. Failed to report at Islington Pol. Sta., N. Divn., Met. Pol., 4.3.1914. A confirmed horsestealer who commits his offences by breaking into stables and stealing from fields. Known to police of N, J and Y Dions., Met. Pol. Information to above Office. 101. Birkenhead ( Borough). ^ ROBERTSON, JAMES, aliases ANDREW STEPHENSON, JAMES BARTON, JAMES ALEXANDER BERTIE. JAMES RICHARDSON. JAMES CARR, ROBERT JAMES BARNES, ROBERT CARROLL, JAMES O'BRIEN, JAMES BROWN, and ROBSON BROWN, C. R. O. No. 3507- 99, age 73, ht. 5 ft. in., c. fresh, h. grey ( bald on top, usually dyed It. auburn), e. blue, nose crooked, scar on forehead. Sentenced at Derby Sess., 6.1.1909, to 7 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence, 20.2.1914, to Stockport, which expires 28.1.1916 ( 23 days'appellant). Left Birkenhead without reporting, 3.3.1914. A notorious hydro, and hotel thief. Known to police at Liverpool, Birmingham, Hanley, Sheffield, Wrexham, Liscard, Dublin, Belfast, Knares- borough, Newcastle and Blackpool.
