GAZETTE im& i ASSSTSK PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEKIES. FRIDAY, AUGUST 22, 1913 VOL. XXX., No. 3094. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and ail communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious off ences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate dep^ tty, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The forcc which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should he prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— Convict Supervision Office For failing to comply with the conditions of her license, which has been revoked.— MABEL PIPER, Office No. S. 139852, age 20, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. Native of Croydon. Sentenced, County of London Sessions, 24th October, 1911, to 2 years' detention in a Borstal Institution for larceny. Released 3rd June last to the care of the Borstal Associa- tion who found her employment but she escaped and cannot now be traced. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communication should be sent to the Governor, Hollovvay Prison, who will send an es- cort for her. Lennon, Colchester. 13.— Southend ( County).— For failing to appear to a summons for an offence under the Bankruptcy Act.— ISAAC SHANOCK, a German Pole, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion florid, hair dark brown, eyes ( believed) brown, nose has been broken ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. A draper's tallyman. Speaks English fluently. Has carried on business in London, Swansea, Liverpool and Great Yar- mouth. Warrant issued. 16.— Southend ( County).— For stealing, 16th inst. a pair of boots.— CHRISTOPHER VALEN- TINE CHAPMAN, alias FRANKLIN, Office No. 940- 13, age 22, height 5 ft. 10i ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown ; scar left side of mouth, forehead, top of left forefinger. ISLE OF WIGHT. 19.— Newport ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 by worthless cheque, drawn on London City and Midland Bank, Chelsea, at Sandown, 4th inst.— C. WOOD, alias SUTTON, BATES, AMOS and WILSON, age 25 to 35, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache fair, thin features, well spoken; wearing light grey suit, white straw hat, black band, yellow boots or shoes. Was accompanied by a woman, and a boy age 2. He calls on tradesmen, makes a small pur- chase, tenders cheque and receives balance in change. Warrant issued. KENT. 20 - Folkestone ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 21 by forged cheque, 12th inst.— GASTON M'ENZ, age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, full face, 1 or 2 teeth upper jaw project, tattoo marks one arm; dress, brown tweed suit, grey cap, carried a grey Raglan overcoat and small brown suit case. A waiter; supposed a Swiss. Has a stolen cheque book on National Provincial Bank, Western Branch, Folkestone, in his possession. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. LANCASHIRE. 2\.— Ormskirk ((- ounty).— For stealing 16, s. by trick, 18th inst.— FRED TURNER, age about 23, height 5 ft. 9 ins., slight build, complexion fair, clean shaven; wearing dark green suit, cap and boots. He called at a stationer's, purchased an inkstand which he asked to be sent to his hotel, together with the change for a sovereign. He met ( lie messenger on arrival, and having received the goods and money, handed him a sealed envelope supposed to contain a sovereign. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hodgson, Ormskirk. 22.- flfizmchest& r City).— For forgery, : 15th April last— HENRY CRAWFORD, age 34 ( looks 40), height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, dark hair, clean shaven; wears a dark morning suit, bowler hat. An accountant, frequents pub- lic houses, and associates with prostitutes. He may endeavour to float a company such as a Motor or Cinematograph Company. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 23.- St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing ( trick) £ 1 from a boy, 14th inst.— A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins.; dress, dark jacket, blue trousers, light cap, lace boots. 24.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 28th ult.— THOMAS BRIDGE", age 33, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, turning grey, eyes blue. Stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 25.— Peterborough ( Liberty of ).— For stealing a quantity of rags, etc., 5th inst.— WIL- LIAM HENRY TEAT, age 29, height 5 ft. ins., complexion, hair and moustache dark, eyes hazel; wearing old grey suit and cap. A labourer ; native of Peterborough. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Slaughter, County Police, Thorpe Road, Peterborough. 26.— Kettering ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Burton Latimer, 16th inst., watches ( a silver Geneva, dent in case, No. 149714; 1 lady's gold- cased, plain figures; 1 do. silver, flowered dial; 1 Ingersoll, glass broken ; 1 silver Waltham lever, Waltham, Mass, on face; 1 white metal, plain figures; 1 lady's, do.); chains ( 1 silver, snake pat- tern, steel bar; 1 lady. s silver, 2 threepenny pieces, Kruger shilling and compass attached; 1 do., long silver); 1 gold locket and chain, heart- shaped pat- tern ; does not open, chased on front, date on side ; and about £ 2 5s.— THOMAS MARRIOTT, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, bow legged, tat- tooed on both arms, fresh cut scar over right eye, lost his voice, addicted to drink, awkward gait; dress, dark brown suit, light green cap, Paisley silk tie, lace boots. Hooper, Kettering. 27.— Northampton ( Borough). — For embez- zling £ 1 4s. lid.— JOHN CARTER, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 ins., good build, full red face, long moustache ginger, hair iron grey; usually wears black leather motor breeches, black legginge and bowler hat. SHROPSHIRE. 28.— Wellington ( County).— For leaving his four children chargeable to the Wellington, Salop Poor Law Union on the 15th ult.— AARON HAY- WARD, age 43, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., slight build, complexion pale, hair dark brown, heavy moustache; dress, dark cap, old dark suit and clogs. A labourer; native of Wrockwardine Wood, Salop. Accompanied by his son Charles, age 11. Warrant issued. 29.— Wellington ( County).— For embezzle- ment, 17th ult.— HORACE STEWART, age 27, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache sandy; dress, black suit, fawn overcoat. A native of Kettlebrook, Warwick shire. Has been employed as salesman in a foreign meat shop. A letter was received from him on 10th inst., posted in Liverpool. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fulcher, Wellington. 30.- We in ( County).— V or stealing, 20th June last, 9 rabbit traps ( recovered).— ALFRED BED- DOW, age 19. height 5 ft. 7i ins., slight build, complexion rather pale, hair dark, clean shaven; dress, dark suit and cap, thin lace boots.— ED- WARD THOMAS JONES, age 19. height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion tawny, hair dark, clean shaven, eyes brown; dress, striped jacket, blue serge vest, dark green mixture trousers, dark muffler, grey cap, heavy nailed blucher boots; had with him a pair of blue overalls. Labourers; natives of Shrewsbury. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Francis, Wem. SUFFOLK ( East). 31 .— I, ipswich ( Borough).— For stealing £ 2 10s. - ERNEST JAMES JENNINGS, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue; dress, light flannel or blue serge suit. A native of Ipswich. Stated his intention of going abroad. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ipswich. SURREY. 32.— Dorkittg ( County).— For absconding from the Inebriates' Home, Charlwood.— KATE KING, age 40, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; ulcer scars left leg. Absconded 10th inst. Warrant issued. 33.— Dorking ( County).— For embezzlement., £ 3.— ALEX . TEE, alias ALEXANDER MUIR, age 16J, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, abscess mark one groin; dress, dark green jacket and vest, light grey trousers, light cap. lace boots. A warehouse assistant; native of Dorking. Ab- sconded 12th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coleman, Dorking. 34.— Reigate ( Borough).— For obtaining a No. 3 folding pocket Kodak camera and £ 1 7s. 6d., by a worthless cheque drawn on the London k South Western Bank, Cannon Street Branch, by James Richardson, made payable to C.
