AU communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica^ tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by countics. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, A'eir Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copics of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Seamere Road, Hingham, near Attleborough, Norfolk, who advertises poultry and pigs for sale. He keeps very little stock and is unable to comply with orders unless cash is remitted with same to enable him to procure poultry and pigs ordered. W. a. j. 729. 5.— M Division.— For obtaining £ 1 by a forged and altered Post Office Savings Bank de- posit book.— ERNEST RAYNER, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion very dark, hair black, eyes ( full) brown, jaunty gait; dress, blue serge lounge suit, black hard felt or brown felt Alpine hat; may be wearing a heavy dark tweed overcoat. He opens an account at a savings bank, varying from £' 2 to £ 5, erases figures in the date stamp, and the entry in deposit book, and then withdraws £ 1 on demand from another Post Office. CITY OF LONDON. 6.— For stealing £ 158 8s. 4d., 25th ult.- CARL SCHINDLER, age 52, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion sallow, hair and heavy moustache light brown, eyes grey, bloated under eyes; dress, dark grey morning suit, blue tie, hard felt hat, long pointed boots. BEDFORDSHIRE. 7.— Biggleswade ( County).— For obtain- ing 5 tons of mangold wurzels and 6 tons of car- rots by false pretences.— REGINALD JOSEPH BROWN, age about 26, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fair, slight moustache; well dressed. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Nicholson, Biggleswade. CHESHIRE. 8.— Wallasey ( Borough).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences ( bogus directory).— ARTHUR WHEATLEY, age about 40, height 5 ^ t. 8 or 9 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, moustache dark, long face; wearing a dark over- coat, hard felt hat, collar and tie. He called on the complainant and stated that he represented " Fulton's Commercial Directory, New Bridge Street, London," and received 10s. for three inser- tions of an advertisement in the above directory. It was afterwards ascertained that the directory ceased to exist 15 years ago. He gave a printed receipt. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Wallasey. DERBYSHIRE. 9.- 4 / f r eton ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences at Morton 3rd ult.— JOHN SEDGWICK ( supposed false), age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion very blotchy, hair light; dress, fawn- colour rain coat, grey suit, lace boots. He sells tickets, printed " The Peoples' Accident Legal Aid Society, London," thereon, and states it entitles the owner to com- pensation in case of accident. Warrant issued. 10.— A / fr eton ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences at Pilsley, 2nd ult.— JOHN SCOTT ( supposed false), age about 50, height 5 ft. 10 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full red face, believed light moustache; dress, grey overcoat, black trousers ( shabby), black and red check vest. He sells tickets, printed " The Peoples' Accident Legal Aid Society, Fleet Street, London," thereon, which state that the owner is entitled to free legal aid, etc. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fennell, Alfreton. DURHAM. 11— Bishop Auckland ( County).— For obtaining 3 pairs of corsets by false pretences, 18th ult., a woman who gave the name of LONGE, age 22 to 30, height 5 ft. 2 to 4 ins. complexion fair, hair light brown, sharp features dress, navy blue serge costume, blue tam- o'- shanter sometimes wears a long greenish coat and gold- rimmed spectacles. She visits shops and asks that goods be supplied on approval to some well- known local lady. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Daley, Bishop Auckland. ESSEX. 12.— Chelmsford ( County).— For robbery and larceny from the person.— LEONARD GEORGE PEACOCK, Office No. 1963- 06, age 37, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey; piece cut out of right ear; dress, grey suit and cap. A baker ; native of Little Bad- dow. Associates with low horse dealers and may be found at repositories, markets, or fairs. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued.).— MURDER. 13.— Grays ( County).— For murder of her child, age 4 months, at South Ockenden, 29th ult.— ELIZA MAYNARD, alias SWANNELL, age 27 to 29, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, com- plexion swarthy, hair ( about 5 ins. long) black, eyes dark brown, pug- nose, distended, one or more teeth missing, walks slovenly, appearance of a gipsy or half- caste; dress, short dark grey jacket with large sleeves, black voile skirt, band of silk or sateen around bottom, black skirt under, pink flannellette petticoat, fawn colour corsets marked " Romford Union," black hat trimmed black silk ribbon, bow left side, lace boots. May endeavour to obtain field work. Stays at workhouses and common lodging houses. Is now believed to be in the Metropolis. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Layer, Grays. FLINTSHIRE. 11— Rhyl ( County).— For embezzling £ 8 4s. 3d. — JOHN LEWIS, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes brown, thin features, boils on neck; dress, navy blue suit, light brown mackintosh, brown cap. A good athlete; supposed a native of Ellesmere Port. Is accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age 22 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., good build, hair dark, eyes brown, full face; dress, three- quarter blue jersey coat, fawn- colour hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Rhyl. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 15.— Neath ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 9th inst., a pair of brown boots, size 9.— WILLIAM JAMES, alias WILLIAM JAMES BIRD, Office No. 297- 13, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue; dress, brown suit ( much worn), blue and white linen collar, light cap and the stolen boots. A native of Aberavon. Has been convicted at Aberavon, Merthyr, Heath, and Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Evans, Neath. 16.— Merthyr Tydfil ( Borough).— For fail- ing to report.— MICHAEL HAYES, alias PRICE, Office No. 204- 09, age 39, height 5 ft. 6J ins., complexion fresh, hair brown ( thin on top), eyes blue, scar top of forehead, front right wrist, back of right hand, tip of right little finger. Native of Limerick. Sentenced, Surrey Assizes, 28th November, 1910, to 3 years' penal servitude for stackfiring. Licensed 3rd March, 1913. k. 574. Information to the Chief Constable, Merthyr Tydfil. HER TFORDSHIRE. 17.— Hetnel Hempstead ( County).— For stealing £ 6 8s. lOd. at Great Berkhampstead, 2nd ult.— OCTAVIUS PAUL TIMSON, age 42, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., good build, inclined to be stout, complexion florid, hair ( wavy) dark brown, slight moustache, eyes blue, slight scar point of chin, bites his finger nails; dress, navy blue serge suit, bowler hat, had with him a new brown Gladstone bag. A rate collector and char- tered accountant; native of Great Berkhampstead. May be accompanied by a woman, age 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair auburn, eyes grey, of smart appearance. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hassell, Hemel Hemp- steady KENT. IS.— Sittinghourne ( County).— For embez- zling £ 24 lis. 8d.— FREDERICK C. MORTON, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion pale, hair ( wavy) light, eyes brown, sailing ship on chest, several marks on forearms; dress, navy blue suit, grey or greenish cap. May be accompanied by a woman ( a music- hall artiste). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crowhurst, Sittingbourne. 19.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th or 14th inst., a lady's gold ring, set sapphire and 2 pearls; 1 gold Mizpah ring; 1 fine gold neck- chain ; 1 silver watch chain, set white stones al- ternate links; 1 old- gold signet ring, set white stone; 3 bead necklaces; 1 coral do.; 2 lady's old- gold dress rings; 1 brown kid hand- bag; 1 green suede hand- bag; 6 new white linen handkerchiefs; 1 fancy silk corded bag ; 1 navy blue serge coat and skirt; 3 blouses; 1 black straw hat, trimmed black and white ostrich feathers; 2 bronze medals, con- fraternity of the Sacrament; 1 pair lady's brown shoes.— ALICE ROBBIN, age about 30, height about 5 ft., complexion fair, hair golden, front teeth stopped with gold, Scotch accent; may be wearing brown tweed or navy blue coat and skirt, and the above- described hat. She arrived from London 13th inst., to take up a situation as a domestic servant, absconded the following morning. Warrant issued. 20. - Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 3rd inst., a blue lounge suit with light stripes, " Baron, High Street, Folkestone," on tab of coat; 1 green mixture overcoat, green leather- covered buttons ( 2 missing), " Lock's key to value" on tab; 1 pair button boots, size 8; 1 pair grey suede lined gloves.— WILLIAM WHITFIELD, age 22 to 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, com- plexion and hair ( thin on top) dark, clean shaven, one front upper tooth missing; may be wearing the stolen clothing and have with him a brown leather brief bag. A kitchen porter. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. 21.— Margate ( Borough).— For obtaining by fraud, 9th inst., a Triumph motor cycle, 1912 pattern, free engine model, Clincher tyres, Tri- umph transfer on head and tank, Lucas head- light, 3- note horn, new throughout.— WALTER S. BAIRD, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, clean shaven ; of good address. He affixed an identification plats bearing registered number F. N. 1542. Is accom- panied by a man about the same age and height as himself. Has been residing at Herne Bay during the last 9 months, has visited neighbouring towns and obtained goods in a similar manner. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Ashton- under- Lyne ( County).— For stealing £ 70 from a caravan at Mossley, 8th inst.— WILLIAM CLARK, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light; dress, grey suit, green tie, dark brown cap, blue Melton over- coat. A native of Leytonstone, Essex.— FRANK GIBSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., com- plexion fresh, bow- legged; wearing soft hat, riding breeches and leggings. A native of Twickenham, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst Brook, Ashton- under- Lyne. 23.— Lancaster ( Borough).— For stealing, 8th inst., a Triump motor cycle, C. K. 374, 1913 handle- bars, leather driving belt, piece of black tape around handle- bar, black frame, aluminium tank with red and green lines.— JAMES SHARPLES, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion rather pale, round face, South Country accent; dress, dark brown morning suit, dark brown cap, lace boots. Stated he was a professional Associa- tion footballer. Supposed identical with WALTER S. BAIRD, Case No. 32, 9th inst. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Lancaster. LEICES TERSHIRE. 24. Leicester ( County).— For stealing ( servant) at Birstall, 2nd inst., a silver watch and 1 lion shilling brooch ( recovered), and Is. 6d. — WILLIAM FIELDS, age 17, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins., round shoulders, complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar top of forehead and under left eye; dress, dark mixture suit, scarf, cap, old light boots ( right repaired with wire). A farm labourer; native of Gainsborough. Pre- viously convicted at Gainsborough and Boston. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowley, County Police, Leicester. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 25.— Abergavenny ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 21st ult., 8s.— MORGAN FREESTONE, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( turned up at ends) dark brown, supposed cut scar on neck and badly rup- tured ; dress, dark suit and overcoat, grey cap, lace boots. A native of Sheffield. He stated that he received the above injuries about 6 years' ago whilst in the Metropolitan Police, from which he now receives a pension of 8s. per week, calls at police stations, exhibits his pension papers and solicits monetary assistance. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davies, Abergavenny. NORTH A MPTONSHIRE. 26.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 1 gold bracelet ( recovered); 1 pair of gold earrings, round disc shape, with 6 small knobs on edge; 1 gold locket, engraved back and front, one side having a small plain ring in centre, small piece of hair inside. ALLEN, alias JOHN THOMPSON, WILLIAMS, etc., Office No. 1463- 99, for photograph and descrip- tion see Illustrated Circular 66, Fig. 10, and Case 17, 18th ult. He took lodgings and represented himself to be a draughtsman at the General Post Office. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Peter- borough. PEMBROKESHIRE. - 7.— Haver ford- west ( County).— For failing to report.— WILLIAM JOHN CHURC- HILL, alias WELSH and BROWN, Office No. 2922- 02, age 30, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion dark, hair black, eyes ( blind left) hazel, cut scars right of head, mole right lower lip. Sentenced at Swansea Borough Quarter Sessions, 2nd January, 1911, to 3 years' penal servitude for shopbreaking. Licensed 11th April, 1913. h. 1.131. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Haverfordwest. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 28.— Brierley Hill ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences.— JOHN REYNOLDS, alias SHAW, HILL, MOSS, DAVIES, and BELL, Office No. 3478- 98 ( see Case No. 51, 13th December, 1912), age 51, height 5 ft. 4 J ins., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) dark brown, eyes blue; female inside right forearm, male, female, table left forearm ; dress, dark suit ( coat rather long), light peak cap. Native of Horton Green. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Johnson, Brierley Hill. 29 — Wednesbury ( County).— For stealing between 28th and 29th ult., from his lodgings, a dark rainproof overcoat, black velvet collar, bone buttons, believed to have maker's name, " Cohen, Birmingham," on tab; and a grey jacket. — JACK BROWN ( supposed false), age 34 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( cut short) and moustache dark brown, eyes grey ( sunken), high cheek bones; dress, dark corduroy trousers, double- breasted check waistcoat, dark blue muffler, cap, brown boots. Stated he was a native of Banbury and had obtained employment at a local timber yard. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Salt, Wednesbury. 30— West Bromwich ( Crunty).— For stealing, 1st inst., a silver English lever watch, No. 56557, white dial, black numerals, steel hands; 1 silver albert, bar and small link pattern; 3 silver medals, " E. Morris" inscribed thereon; and a pair of blue serge trousers and vest.— JOSEPH ROBERTSON, alias SPILSBURY, SCOTTY SHALE, Office No. 110- 09, age 53, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache sandy, eyes blue; scar right eyebrow, red nose; dress, blue serge jacket, white cord vest, black and white plaid trousers ( white patch on knee), ap- pearance of a navvy. Native of Derby. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich. 31.— Wolverhampton ( Borough). — For embezzling 13s. 2d., 12th ult.— WILLIAM BROMAGE, age 22, height about 6 ft., slight build, sharp features, complexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaven; dressed, when last seen, in a grey jacket suit, dark grey overcoat, tighWitting at waist, green cap and tie, lace boots. A baker's salesman; native of Smethwick. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Wolver- hampton. SURREY. 32.— Farnham ( County).— For being con- cerned together in stealing, 28th ult., 2 silver salt cellars with blue glass containers; 1 plain silver pepper pot; 4 silver egg cups; 1 brown leather dressing- case, 18 x 15, initials " L. F. P." thereon; 2 South African medals with clasps, " Captain"' or " Major Phillips, K. R. R.," thereon; 2 minia- ture dress medals of above; 2 silver- back hair brushes, initials " L. F. P." thereon ; 1 ivory button- hook and shoehorn ( combined), do.; 1 tooth- br. ish bottle, silver top, do.; 1 powder pot, silver top, do.; 1 silver shaving stick, do.; 1 green leather jewel- case, 15 x 2$, containing 1 gold pin, pesrl top, 1 gold pin, set with moonstone and surround'.' i with diamonds, 1 gold pin, set with turquoise ( egg shape), 1 gold pin with ladybird in enamel, 1 gold pin with very large onyx stone, 1 gold safety pin, 1 pearl horse- shoe pin; 1 very old metal din- ner bell, shape of woman; 1 very old crystal seal, bearing man's head with beard; 1 goid Primrose League badge; 1 gold stud, set with pearl; 4 small gold studs; 1 pair of mother- o'- pearl sleeve links, set with ruby and diamond; 1 small brown case, containing 3 mother- o'- pearl buttons, set with ruby in centre; 1 gold full hunter watch, makers, Oliphant < 5t Botsford, Manchester, on face, Roman numerals, monogram " L. F. P." and crest, rampant lion, thereon, No. 8755; 1 gold curb chain, with gold pencil case attached, " L. F.
