AU communications for insertion in the POLIOS GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 5. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 6. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. t. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 4. Svery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bv Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should bt prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. A clerk; native of Whitehaven. Was employed at the British Museum. Is a good pianist and billiard player. Has been a sergeant in the Civil Service Rifles. Warrant issued. l.— X Division.— For stealing a red leather pocket- book, containing £ 100 in Bank of England notes ( 5 £ 10 and 10 £ 5), stamped " Spanish & River Plate Bank, Madrid"; 2 lst class return tickets, Lisbon to Buenos Ayres, 26th ult.— MANUEL SABUCO, age 19, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion pale, hair very dark, eyes brown, speaks very little English; dress, blue overcoat with velvet collar, grey jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, black hard felt hat. lace boots. BEDFORDSHIRE. 8.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing from hotel, 25th ult., 2 gold bracelets and 17s. 6d.— BURTON, alias WILLIAM MORTON, CLARKE and McCLARREN, Office No. 2000- 06 ( see Case 15, 28th ult., and Illustrated Circular No. 102, Fig. 22), age 37, height 5 ft. 7 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown; scar bend of right arm, front left forearm, mole left side of neck. Left behind a black Gladstone bag which was found to contain potatoes and rags. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. 9.— Luton ( Borough).— For stealing from their ledgings, 24th ult., 2 bicycles: ( lst, black enamel- led, upturned handle bars, rat- trap pedals, back mudguard tied with string, front grip brake trans- ferred to back wheel, 8 scratched on saddle; 2nd, old and rusty); 1 gold albert with Celtic Football Club. gold medal attached, bearing name of David Adams; and about £ 4 10s.— TWO MEN: lst, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion dark, clean shaven, 2 teeth missing lower jaw; dress, brown and green mixture suit, dark cap and muf- fler, brown boots ( blacked over). A Jew; 2nd, age about 19, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, full round face; dress, dark suit, cap and muffler. Speaks with North Country accent. These men are strongly suspected of committing several slot meter thefts in this district. 10.— Luton ( Borough).— For stealing, 3rd inst., from a hotel, 2 gold bracelets ( 1 9- ct. curb with padlock and safety chain; 1 braided chain, snap fastening, with safety chain which is broken and tied with piece of white thread); 1 lady's 15- ct. lialf- hunter watch, gold case, attached to a gold brooch, shamrock leaf pattern, " Carrington " sup- posed inside case; 1 heavy gold signet ring, 9- ct., with " M. D. W." on shield; and about 10s.— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., slight build, hair and moustache very dark; dress, brown overcoat, dark suit, black bowler hat, grey spats. Ho left behind a 16- inch brown leather Gladstone bag ( old), containing a blue jacket suit, copy of Answers, Bradshaw's Guide for January, 1913, with name, Mr. Dundonald, in pencil, written in- side, A. BERKSHIRE. 11.— Reading ( Borough). — For stealing, 20th ult., from a hotel, a lady's 9- ct. gold chain, fetter link pattern, has been converted into a double albert; 1 gold heart- shaped locket; 1 silver match- box, chased ivy leaves; and £ 1 15s.— A man, who gave the name of HARVEY, age 30. height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion dark, believed small dark moustache; wearing dark overcoat, hard felt hat, white wrapper; carried a small brown brief bag. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 12.— A ylesbury ( County).— For stealing, 18th ult., from a hotel, a quantity of jewellery.— WIL- LIAM MORTON, alias CLARKE, McCLARREN and BURTON, Office No. 2000- 06 ( see Illustrated Circular 102, Fig. 22), age 37, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown; scar bend of right arm, front left forearm, mole left side of neck; dress, blue serge suit, dark over- coat with strap at back, black bowler hat, lace boots, carries an umbrella with partridge can& crooked handle; of good address and appearance. He visits towns, rents small sheds, represents himself as a wholesale and retail fruit, pea and potato salesman, obtains goods, disposes of same and ab- sconds. A clothier's manager; of good address. Ab- sconded 18th ult. Warrant issued. 16.— Stockport ( Borough).— For stealing a bank book, forging withdrawal order and obtain- ing £ 20 by false pretences on 24th ult.— THOMAS WILD, alias WILLIAM GRAHAM, age 29, height 5 ft. 6£ ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes hazel; wearing light suit, fawn- colour rain- coat. Hailstone, Romford. 20 .— Southend ( County). — For embezzling 16s. lid., 27th ult.— HENRY CROMPTON, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache light, eyes believed grey, addicted to drink; dress, dark suit and cap. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Winchester ( County).— For burglary at Hursley, 21st ult., and stealing a round gold snuff- box, blue enamel lid, ins. diameter, J to J inch deep; 1 plain silver cigarette case, 3| by ins., monogram " G. W. H." on centre of lid; an Eastman's No. 1 folding pocket camera, expands about 5 ins.; and about £ 20, including about 7s. worth of three- penny pieces.— TWO MEN: 1st, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins.; wearing dark grey overcoat, black bowler hat, light boots; 2nd, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins.; dress, grey suit and cap or soft hat; carried a small bag. HEREFORDSHIRE. 22.— Hereford ( City).— For stealing ( servant) £ 8, 15th ult.— WILFRED COBBLEDICK, age 14, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., good build; dress, grey knicker suit, cycling stockings, dark overcoat, strap at back, Eton collar, pale green tie. Is believed to have gone to South Wales. Was em- ployed in a builder's office. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. HERTFORDSHIRE. 23.— Watford ( County).— For obtaining £ 2 3s. 7d. by a worthless cheque for £ 4 on the London County and Westminster Bank. Victoria Branch, No. A/ T- 93389, dated 21st February, 1913, made payable to self and signed C. Wood, 21st ult.— C WOOD, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion pale, hair light brown; dress, grey overcoat, grey striped trousers, black hard felt hat ( see Case No. 39, 7th ult.). Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Watford. KENT. 24.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing a new grey striped suit, maker " Simpson, Sun Court, Cornhill," on tab of jacket; 1 light Scotch tweed cap; 1 pearl horseshoe pin.— WILLIAM HENRY WOOLFORD, age 25£, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue. Is an absentee from H. M. S. " Goliath." Was wearing naval uniform which has since been found, and he is no doubt wearing the stolen clothing. A native of Severnside, Maisemore, Gloucester. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 25.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining food by false pretences, 28th ult.— F. BARTON, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., crooked nose, hair, moustache and eyes dark, front upper teeth missing; dress, dark mixture suit, white silk neckerchief or wrapper, dark cap, heavy boots. He took lodgings, stated he was engaged by a firm of engineers to set boilers in a local laundry and that two other men were to arrive the following day; he also obtained 2s. lOd. to pay for his lug- gage at the station, and absconded. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Liverpool ( City).- For larceny ( lodgings), 19th ult.— A MAN, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., hair, eyes and slight moustache dark; appearance of a foreigper; wearing black morning coat, trimmed braid, tan- colour boots. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 27.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st ult., £ 8.— MARY DUNN, age about 55, height 5 ft. 5£ ins., complexion sallow, hair grey, full face, thick lips, addicted to drink; dress, dark blue skirt, black blouse, ankle- strap slippers; wears a green plaid shawl and spectacles. Late of Blackpool. May seek employment as cook or general servant. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 28.— Oldham ( Borough).— For stealing, 27th or 28th ult., a grey mixture overcoat, black velvet collar, plain turn- back cuffs, single breasted ( nearly new); 1 pipe; 1 tobacco pouch; 1 black cloth waist- cqat; 1 pair of dark grey trousers; 1 very fine curb double albert guard, imitation gold, red stone attached; 1 hair brush; 1 white comb; 1 razor ( Cowvan); 1 lady's metal watch; 1 box of adver- tising slides and some cards for a Leeds firm; and some letters addressed to Mr. Ernest Bottomley. A MAN who gave the name of VICTOR, age 34, height 5 ft. 10 ins., powerful build, long features, pointed chin, complexion tanned, hair grey, prom- inent teeth upper jaw; dress, light grey suit, glossy peaked sailor cap, green front tie and boots. Said he was a cook on board S. S. " Shropshire," due to leave Manchester Ship Canal 2nd inst., for Australia. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police. Oldham. SHROPSHIRE. 29.— Wellington ( County).— For stealing, 14th ult., a silver- plated B- flat cornet, maker Courtois, Paris, 3 keys, double water key, Bessons mouthpiece, in a black leather case, lined blue flannel.— THOMAS DELANEY, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, long features, hair ( long and curly) black, clean shaven, eyes brown, usually wears pince- nez, walks erect; dress, navy blue suit, long dark tweed overcoat, dark tie, tan- colour boots, green soft hat. A hairdresser; sup- posed a native of America. Is fond of reading and singing. Was a member of the Wellington Band; has also played the cornet at picture palaces. Had in his possession a lady's dressing basket, initials " H. P." on one of the straps; 1 navy blue jacket; 1 pair navy blue cycling knickers; a brass B- flat cornet, made by Hawkes; 1 suit of blue uni- form, trimmed gold braid, red flaps over pockets, red stripe 1 inch wide on trousers. S TAFFORDSHIRE. 30.— Leek ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Rushton, between 13th and 15th ult.— JAMES SPALDING ( sup- posed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fair, hair ( bald on top) and moustache grey, lisps slightly; dress, black frock coat and vest, grey trousers, black tie, brown peak cap, lace boots. Stated he was a native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Hicklin, Leek. 31.— Smethwick ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 21st ult., a watch and chain ( recovered).— A MAN, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair and short stubby moustache iron grey; wears glasses, dark overcoat, hard hat. Stated he was an engineer. Information to Supt. Grove, Smethwick. 32.— Tettenhail ( County).— For attempted murder at Bushbury, 23rd ult.— JAMES LOMAS, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, eyes small, deep set; dress, dark jacket and vest, grey tweed breeches, dark overcoat, black hat, lace boots. A native of Wol- verhampton. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Robotham, Tettenhall. 33.— Stoke - on - Trent ( Borough).— For stealing a silver English lever watch, bold dial, capped, No. 13444.— RICHARD BRUTON, alias JAMES and BRUSTER, age 48, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes hazel, ab- scess scar left cheek and left side of neck; wear- ing black overcoat and bowler hat. A travelling watch repairer; native of Hereford. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Stoke- on- Trent. SUFFOLK ( West). Si.— Newmarket ( County).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences.— SIDNEY DAPLYN, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 ins., very slight build, complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress ( supposed) grey tweed cycling suit, cap. A furniture sales- man ; native of Hindringham, Norfolk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heigham, Newmarket. SURREY. 35.— Chertsey ( County).— For embezzlement. — FREDERICK JAMES CHARLES O'FAR- RELL, age 32, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, tombstone, hand, heart, left forearm, ring 3rd left finger, ballet girl and crocodile right forearm, man and lion on chest. A carman. Has served in the Royal Marines. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mears, Chertsey. 36. Farnham ( County).— For obtaining credit by fraud at Wrecclesham. EDWARDS ( supposed false), age about 55, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion sallow, hair white, very plau- sible; dress, short grey fur jacket, black skirt, toque tied with black silk ribbon, brown kid gloves, lace boots. She engaged apartments, 19th ult., for three weeks, stated she was a traveller for a firm of locksmiths at Birmingham. Supposed wanted elsewhere. May have with her a reading- glass mounted in tortoiseshell. Absconded 20th ult. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Simmonds, Farnham. SUSSEX ( East). 37.— Lewes ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult., a green plush jewel case, containing a gold ring, set pink amethyst; 3 pairs of earrings; 1 fancy brooch; 2 silver frog brooches; 1 long gold brooch. — A MAN, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, hair dark, clean shaven ; of smart appearance; dress, dark blue suit, black bowler hat— A WOMAN, age about 26, height 5 ft., complexion fair; dress, blue costume, round navy blue hat, trimmed white feathers, sealskin around neck, brown waist belt. They call at hotels, etc., obtain refreshment, ask permission to use the lava- tory, commit larceny and decamp. Arrested, see Case No. 94, current issue. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Vine, Lewes. 38.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For [ stealing, 22nd ult., 5 gold rings ( 1 mourning, containing grey hair; 1 cluster violet stones, pearl in centre; 1 dress, set 1 pearl and 1 turquoise; 1 set 3 garnets and 6 small opals; 1 keeper, " Mizpah " thereon ( worn)) ; 1 gold curb chain bracelet, padlock and safety chain attached, with an extra bolt ring fastener; 1 lady's silver watch in leather wrist strap.— A WOMAN, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins.; dress, blue costume, trim- med light blue, close- fitting pan hat with light brocaded silk tam- o- shanter top, veil and dark foxa- line stole.
