T H E GAZETTE PUBLISHED by AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 3022. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( is. per photograph or skctch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 2.— C Division.— for stealing ( servant) 7th inst., a single- stone diamond ring, set in 18- ct. gold shank, weight cts.— HARRY GREEN WERDE, age 17, height 5 ft., complexion, hair and eyes dark; dress, light tweed suit, dark over- coat, black hard felt hat, fancy tie, grey gloves, boots with fancy tops. A native of Hamburg. 3.— C Division.— For obtaining an overcoat by a worthless cheque.— BERNARD FRANCIS GREGORY, alias BARON GREGORY, age 44, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion, hair and moustache ( turning grey) and eyes dark; dress, dark overcoat, light check lounge suit, bowler hat. A native of Vienna. Is well known at Skindles, Maidenhead and other towns on the upper reaches of the Thames. O.— C Division.— For embezzling £ 49 19s. 8d., 6th inst.— ERNEST BRANCH, age 38, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, long thin face, round chin, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue, slightly bow legged : dress, dark tweed suit, black overcoat, velvet collar, hard felt hat, lace boots. A native of Highbury, London. Warrant issued. 6.— K Division.- For unlawfully negotiating a seaman's advance note.— HENRY COOK, age 30, height 6 ft. Jin., complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache light, eyes blue, blue dot back of left hand, bad front teeth; dress, blue serge suit, light cap. A seaman; native of Canning Town. Warrant issued. 8.— Division.— For obtaining by false pretences, boy's clothing, 11th October, 1912.- ALICE SULLY, alias WRAY, Office No. S. 89525, age 28, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue; dress, light grey tweed costume, black straw hat ( trimmed brown fur and flowers), lace boots. Native of Claygate, Surrey. Had with her a child, 3 months old. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 9.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences.— S. A. FISHER, age 50 to 60, rather tall, slight build, hair apparently dyed light brown or ginger; dress, navy blue cos- tume, dark hat, supposed trimmed white feathers. Stated she was a relative of an admiral and at one time was well- known to persons connected with the Court. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. CHESHIRE. 10.— Altrincham ( County).— For embezzling £ 1 3s. 7id.— DAVID or DANIEL DODDS, age 35, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair sandy, slovenly appearance; dress, dark tweed jacket, light riding breeches, cloth leggings, brown overcoat, green tie, hard felt hat, lace boots. May seek employment as a cabdriver, groom or farm labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Altrincham. DERBYSHIRE. 11.— Renishaw ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Killamarsh, 28th ult., a wooden pipe; 1 pouch; 1 razor; 1 pocket- knife and a handkerchief.— CHARLES PEARCE, age 36, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion and hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes brown, tattooed both arms; dress, brown suit or black jacket and vest, old cord trou- sers, cap. A native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrew, Renishaw. DORSETSHIRE. 12.— Shaftesbury ( County)— For obtaining £ 5 by a seaman's forged advance note at Gilling- ham, 23rd ult.— GEORGE BOOTH, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., hair and moustache brown or ginger; dress, navy blue suit, double- breasted coat with brass buttons, peak cap, badge in front, black bow tie. He called upon a grocer, ordered goods and in payment produced a note for £ 10, payable to G. Booth by Messrs. Evan Radcliffe, 4, Dock Chambers, Cardiff, issued by C. Thompson, Master, obtained £ 5 and stated his wife would call for the balance. He committed a similar offence at Bristol in March, 1911, when he gave the name of W. Moore. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Bowles, Shaftesbury. ESSEX. 13.— Rochford ( County).— For non- payment of £ 3 13s. maintenance arrears.— HUGH CAMP- BELL, age 43 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, long thin face, hair ( thick) dark brown, eyes brown, scar on one cheek, nose has been broken, sailor boy holding bottle in each hand on barrel on one arm, XXX on bottles and barrel, 2 front artificial teeth, bottom lip protrudes, has a habit of picking his lips when fn conversation; dress, greenish brown tweed suit, fawn- colour overcoat, bowler hat. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 14.— Aberdare ( County).— For warehouse- breaking and larceny.— DAVID RICHARD DA VIES, Office No. S. 150239, age 18, height 4 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven; blue scar right ear, scar left cheek, anchor tattooed back right forearm. A collier; native of Trede- gar ( Mon). Has been several times convicted of shopbreaking and larceny, and was last sentenced to 18 months in a Borstal Institution, being dis- charged on licence to the care of the Borstal Asso- ciation on the 10th April, 1912. Sentence expired 17th October last. Information to Supt. Rees, Aberdare. Perkins, Dursley. 16.— Staple Hill { County).— For deserting his wife, leaving her chargeable to the Chipping Sodbury Union.— ARTHUR LOMAS, age 14, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, boil scars back of neck; dress, blue suit. A rag and bone gatherer; native of Bermondsey, London. Was accompanied by a woman, age 28; a native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 17.— Bournemouth { County).— For embez- zling 10s., at Boscombe, 2nd inst.— GEORGE SIMPSON, age about 33, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion sallow, fleshy growth left jaw, hair black, moustache ( heavy) dark brown; dress, blue serge suit, bowler hat, black tie and shoes. HER TFOROSHIRE. 18.— Hemel Hempstead { County).— For stealing lead ( recovered).— GEORGE STEERS, age 31, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, moustache brown, eyes blue, left leg deformed, limps; dress, old dark jacket suit, very greasy, blue muffler, brown cap. A native of Hemel Hempstead. May be accompanied by his • wife, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 ins., nose broken, pregnant, and 2 children. Warrant issued. 1 v — Hemel Hempstead ( County).— For housebreaking, 9th ult.— FRED ROBINSON, age 17 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 4 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( front curly, back short), eyes dark brown, scar corner of left, mole upper lip, Joe tattooed one arm; dress, black coat with light stripe, black vest, light grey tweed trousers, blue overalls, green cap, black and white striped tie, white jersey under shirt, lace boots. KENT. 20.— Ash ford ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences.— CHARLES SPALDING, olios ROBARTES, MORTIMER, COX and TAYLOR, Office No. S. 68249 ( see Illus- trated Circular 104", Fig. 22), age 51, height 5 ft. ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue, beard and moustache ginger, turning grey; dress, frock coat, dark striped trousers, silk hat, white muffler; carries a walking stick and roll of papers. Jones, Ashford. 21.— Tonbridge { County).— For obtaining money by false pretences.— HARRY HAMIL- TON, supposed an American, age 39, height 5 ft. ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( bald patch on top covered with false hair) turning grey, eyes blue or grey, lst and 2nd left fingers ampu- tated at 2nd joint, very small feet, discoloured teeth, stopped with gold; well dressed. Repre sents himself as a consulting engineer to a com pany and obtains money on the promise of purchas- ing shares. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Neaves, Tonbridge. 22.— Gravesend { Borough).— For failing to appear to a summons for ngglecting her child.— EMMA SKEGG, age 52, height 5 ft. 6 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and eyes dark, somewhat hysterical; dress, dark coat and skirt, black hat, was carrying an umbrella and small bag. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend vs.— Maidstone { Borough).— For obtaining, 28th ult., £ 2 10s., by worthless cheque, and a fawn- colour single- breasted " Dexter" weatherproof overcoat, tab inside collar with " Dexter, whip and trumpet," lined light check material, 2 horizontal outside Dockets and inside tickeit pocket with flaps, tab for front of collar was buttoned inside left breast.— F. JOHNSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 ins., short dark mous tache; wearing light rainproof overcoat, dark soft hat. Of good address. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone 21.— Tun bridge Wells { Borough).— For obtaining £ 3 2s. 6d. by false pretences— F. BOOTH, age 40 to 45, clean shaven; wearing dark clothes, bowler hat. On 30th ult., Booth and his wife took lodgings, then called at a shop, ordered a mangle, stated he was chief mate of the S. S. Thames, and in payment tendered a seaman's advance note for £ 5, received the above amount as balance, the note was returned from the bank marked " Fraudulent"; on the same day he made another purchase, tendered a note for £ 5, which described him as boatswain of the S. S. Goth, and received the balance of £ 2 3s.; this note was also returned marked " Forged Warrant." Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Tunbridge Wells. Not now wanted. 27.— Blackpool { Borough).— For indecent assault on a male child.— JOHN STUBBS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair and moustache dark brown; very talkative and invariably seeks the company of boys. A lamplighler. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 28.— Lancaster ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, 30th ult., a lady's 9- ct. gold keyless watch, maker, Russell, Liverpool, long gold chain attached; 1 silver English lever watch, chain with medal attached; 1 new grey overcoat and 8s. — ALFRED SAUNDERS, age about 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven; dress, dark suit and cap, lace boots; may be wearing the stolen overcoat; Southern accent. SO.— Abergavenny ( County). — For forging a cheque and obtaining £ 150, including 20 £ 5 Bank of England notes, Nos. H. 21— 92381 to 92400, all stamped Capital and Counties Bank, Abergavenny, with indelible ink and date. fl 25th August, 1911, London.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 to 7 ins., hair dark, clean shaven, sunken cheeks; supposed wearing a fawn- colour mackintosh and light cap. NO TTINGHA MS HIRE. 81.— Nottingham ( City).— For larceny between 25th August last and 23rd ult.— HER- BERT SPENCER UREN, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, red face, jaws sunken, hair dark, short moustache; dress, Norfolk jacket, brownish striped trousers, light check or fawn colour overcoat, light check cap, lace boots. A French polisher; native of Birmingham. Ab- sconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. STAFFORDSHIRE. 31 .— Bilston i ( County).— For stealing £ 89.— FANNY GOODWIN, alias GERTRUDE GOOD- WIN, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, thin face, hair dark brown, eyes brown, rather full; dress, black fur hat, dark blue three- quarter jadket, velvet collar and cuffs, fastens with loops of braid, blue stripe skirt, black blouse, lace shoes. Pilliner, Bilston. 35.— Lichfield { County).— For stealing a soldier's kit, 25th ult.— GEORGE BIRCH, alias SHELLY, age 46, height 5 ft. 4£ ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes grey; dress, dark blue serge suit, light brown cap, dark muffler, brown lace boots. A native of Stafford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Lichfield. 36.— Tettenhall ( County).— For embezzling 10s. 6d. at Wednesfield, 9th ult.— A MAN, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey; dress, light grey coat and vest, brown cord breeches and leggings, white rubber or celluloid collar, dark cap. A maltster; native of Netherton, near Dudley. May be found work- ing on a farm or as a labourer. Information to Supt. Robotham, Tettenhall. 37.— Wednesbury ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 27th ult., a dark grey overcoat, black lining, buttons to match, and a pair light lace boots, pointed toes, recently soled and heeled. — WILLIAM WARD ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion ruddy, hair, heavy moustache, and eyes dark; dress, old grey suit and cap; supposed wearing the stolen coat and boots. Information cancelled. 39— Woking ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 27th ult., a Triumph bicycle, transfer on head, black enamelled frame, two- speed gear, flat handle- bars, green handles, rubber pedals, roller chain, Hermetic back tyre, old front tyre, triangu- lar tool- bag.— ARTHUR WELLS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., full face, hair ( curly in front) and moustache curled at ends brown, several teeth missing right side, tattooed both arms; dress, dark grey tweed jacket and vest, light grey trou- sers, dark cap. Stated he was a reservist and had obtained employment at a local nursery. Ab- sconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marks, Woking. 40.— Guildford ( Borough).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a dark grey overcoat, velvet collar.— ARTHUR WILLS, alias WELLS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache ( waxed at ends), horse on one forearm, scar right cheek and left arm; dress, dark brown jacket and trousers, grey mixture vest, navy blue cap, dark wrapper, boots with plain front, protectors in soles. Is believed a reservist of the Dragoon Guards. Stated he had obtained employment as carman at a local brewery. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildford. SUSSEX ( East). 41 — Eastbourne ( Borough).— For larceny. — GEORGE COOPER, alias CHARLES COOPER, age 49, height 5 ft. 4 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, turn- ing grey; dress, dark striped tweed suit, grey cap, black bowler hat, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Eastbourne. 42.— Hastings ( Borough).— For shopbreaking and stealing £ 24 5s.— A MAN, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fair, hair light, clean shaven; North Country accent; appearance of a gipsy; dress, grey suit, dark overcoat, green cap, coloured wrapper.
