POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEBIES. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 3018- 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 3. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8J. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9 10. 11. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from suoh publication. Announcements for. the Friday issue should b » forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. MURDER. 1.— Whereas at 7.30 a. m., 16th November, 1912, the bodies of two girls, age 7 and 10 years, respectively, were found murdered in a field; an olive Ringwood woollen glove, man's size for right hand, in a greasy condition, was found near the bodies, also impressions of cord trousers, which tend to show that the murderer was of the labour- ing class. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Rotherham, by whom the above reward will be paid to any person giving such information as • will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who committed the crime. Warrant issued. 3.— D Division.— For embezzling £ 690 18s. 10d.— ALFRED JAMES ROBESON, age 22, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins, complexion sallow, hair ( curly) very fair, clean shaven, eyes blue, pro- minent nose; dress, dark blue jacket suit, dark overcoat, grey cap.— WILLIAM HENRY LEE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins, complexion fair, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, one cheek sunken, slightly bow legged, swinging gait; of smart appearance; dress, dark braided morning coat, fancy vest, striped trousers, grey overcoat, bowler or soft hat. A native of Middlewich, Cheshire. Warrant issued. 4.— G Division.- For bigamy.— RUDOLPH JOHN KLOSS, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 ins, com- plexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) dark brown, eyes blue, flags right arm, woman in tights left arm, very high forehead; dress, grey jacket suit, black bowler hat. A native of London. Warrant issued. 5— K Division. For stealing £ 54. 10s.— THOMAS GEORGE TANNER, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes hazel, scar centre of forehead; dress, dark striped suit and overcoat ( strap at back and cuffs), bowler hat, lace shoes. Is a reservist of the Royal Field Artillery. Warrant issued. 6.— ][ Division.— For obtaining, 16th inst, by a worthless cheque, No. B. 05138, on the Lon- don County k Westminster Bank, Ltd, Finsbury Pavement Branch, a bay gelding, 6 years, 15 hands 2 ins, medium mane, long tail, hind fetlocks white, white fringe top of fore coronets, tip of near ear torn, in good condition.— A. FIELDER, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 ins, slight build, complexion pale, long face, pointed chin, hair light, eyes small, very small hands; dress, long drab colour mackintosh, light grey trousers and cap. Warrant issued. 1.— X Division.— For obtaining £ 1 15s. 6d. by false pretences.— ARTHUR CHARLES BROOKS, Office No. S/ 150179, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 ins, complexion fresh, hair dark, turning grey, eyes blue; slightly deaf, scar back of right arm; dress, shabby grey suit. Falsely represented he was sent by the house agent to collect rent. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 8.— For stealing, 28th ult, 7 Coney seal fur sets; 7 do. ties.— FREDERICK BRONSON, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 ins, good build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaven, « yes blue; dress, grey jacket suit and cap, lace boots. A native of Lon- don. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. BEDFORDSHIRE. 9-— Bedford { Borough).— For obtaining a cheque for £ 20 by false pretences, 8th inst.— H. G. BADDELEY, age 25 or 26, height 6 ft, slight build, clean shaved, prominent front teeth. Has been employed at a mo^ or works as a fitter.— EDITH BADDELEY, age about 22, height 5 ft. 4 ins.; has a child about 8 weeks' old. They ob- tained the cheque by disposing of furniture which had been obtained on the hire system. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing £ 47 9s. 4d, 22nd inst.— FRANK RAWLINGS, age 22, height 5 ft. 2 to 4 ins, good build, com- plexion fresh, clean shaven, hair black; Yorkshire accent; right arm has been broken at elbow and badly set; dress, dark jacket suit, light mackin- tosh, light cap, lace boots, nearly new. Spoke of going to Argentine. A clerk; native of Harro- gate. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 11 — AHrincham ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 5s. by false pretences at Lymm.— JAMES SPENCER, age 37 or 38, height about 5 ft. 10 ins, broad and powerful build, complexion and eyes dark, hair and moustache black; dress, old dark brown mixture tweed suit, neak cap, coloured bangle on right wrist. Stated he belonged to the Royal Garrison Artillery; that he was employed in the Dockyard at Portsmouth, and that he would lose his situation and pension if he did not return by the following morning. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Altrincham. 12. - Macclesfield ( Borough).- Yor stealing from a bedroom, 16th inst, a silver lever watch, No. 182614; 1 do. Swiss make, No. 99; 1 silver chain, half twisted long link pattern, spring in each link; 1 gold locket, containing photograph of a lady; 1 silver compass; 1 gold ring, set opal; 1 pair lace boots, size 8, pointed toes, Balmoral pattern, and £ 14.— NORMAN SMITH, alias JAMES NORMAN SMITH, age 19, height about 5 ft. 5 ins, good build, complexion pale, broad features, high cheek bones, hair and slight mous- tache dark brown, walks erect; dress, dark grey tweed suit, black tie, grey cap, probably wearing the stolen boots. Is addicted to drink and an in- veterate cigarette smoker. Previously convicted at Newport, Mon, Pontypool and Bristol. Stated he was 3rd engineer on a ship which was in dock at Liverpool from 11th to 18th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Macclesfield. A native of Sheffield. cap. He took lodgings, 15th inst., and stated he had obtained employment at a colliery. Believed a native of Bristol. Warrant issued. . GLAMORGANSHIRE. 17.— Bridgend ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Penyfai, 16th inst., a dark serge Suit, wide seam to trousers; 1 green suit;" 2 grey ( Army) shirts; and 6 pairs do. grey socks, stamped " R. B. 3821 "; 1 pair brown button boots, size 7, " Tipperary " on tab; 1 flannel shirt, green stripes; 1 shaving pot, razor and shaving brush; 1 brown cap, nearly new.— JOSEPH STILTON, alias STANTON, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., com- plexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, clean shaven; dress, supposed grey suit, jacket long and tight- fitting at waist, grey bow tie, patent leather lace boots with greyish tops. A professional runner and boxer; native of Willesden, London. Has served in the 9th Lancers as a trumpeter, also with the Middlesex Regiment. Hack, Bournemouth. 28.— Gosport ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences.— EDITH THOMPSON, alias PARKS, SIMPSON, SHORE, NEAL, BREWER, etc., Office No. 1220- 12, age 38, height 5 ft., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and eyes brown, full face, teeth wide apart, some missing; dress, navy blue coat and skirt, toque with dark- coloured wing in front. A cook. She called upon a lady, gave false references, and stated that she had been sent from a registry office in an adjacent town. Upon being engaged as a cook she obtained 3s. for her railway fare home until she commenced her duties. Has been convicted at Birmingham, Rushall, Marlborough, Oxford, etc. Warrant issued. A tailor's and draper's traveller. May have with him a New Hudson bicycle, sloping frame, black en- amelled, lined red, rubber pedals, New Hudson tyres, Lycett saddle, 26- in. wheels, inverted lever brakes. HEREFORDSHIRE. 25.— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) horse, 29th September last,— LEWIS FRANK KNIGHT, age 45 to 50, height about 6 ft., good build, complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light, eyes blue. A horse dealer; travels the coun- try accompanied by his wife and 2 sons ( one age about 14, the other about 16 years), a large van, may have Frank Knight, horse dealer, Merthyr, Frank Billingham, Bromyard, or Frank Cooke, thereon; also drives a rubber tyre gig with yellow wheels, blue lined, monogram L. K. on back; may also have with him a fancy- made cart, containing a suite of furniture, covered with a green sheet, marked " F. Billingham, Bromyard." Left Craven Arms, Shropshire, 28th ult. Burton, Spalding. 35.— Stamford ( County). — For obtaining by false pretences, a B- flat clarionet, 14 keys, wooden reed cap over mouthpiece, stamped " First- class, Hawkes & Sons, Denman Street Piccadilly Circus, London," in several places, and a number under- neath ; and a silver- plated lyre, fastens to instru- ment with a circular band and thumb- screw; also for stealing ( bailee) a clarionet, same description as above.— HARRY GRAY, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., good build, complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, small eves, sore, short neck, thick lips, scar over one eyebrow, prominent nose, large thick hands, looks downwards when walking; dress, dark blue serge jacket and vest, very dark brown mixture trousers, black three- quarter length overcoat. LANCASHIRE. ; ST.— Liverpool ( City).— For uttering coun- terfeit coin, 16th inst.— THOMAS WILLIAMS, alias CHALK and DARE, Office No. 1292- 02 ( see Case 9, 30th August, 1912), ace 26, height 5 ft. 5£ ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey, scars left side of head, left cheekbone and jaw, dot right and two dots back left hand, W. C. left fore- arm ; dress, khaki- coloured overcoat and round hard felt hat; and TWO MEN: lst » , age 25, trousers and vest, dark blue waterproof coat, black hard hat. An Italian, but passes as a Frenchman. He purported to carry on business as a wholesale importer of foreign fancy goods, obtained samples and consignments from continental traders, which he pledged with various pawnbrokers; also adver- tised in Italian papers offering positions of trust, and obtained money from persons as a guarantee. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt.
