AZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 3012. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TIIE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8J. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. REGULATIONS. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for. the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, cither at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post . • D 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1— Convict Supervision Office-— Licence revoked for failing to comply with the conditions of same.— WILLIAM PALMER, Office No. S/ 134782, age 20, height 5 ft. ins., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar centre of forehead and right side of top lip. Sentenced Bristol Assizes, lst July, 1911, to 18 months' de- tention in a Borstal Institution for uttering a forged order and fraud. Released on Licence lst October, 1912, to the care of the Borstal Associa- tion, and obtained work in London from which he disappeared 28th October last. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communication should be sent to the Governor, Pentonville Prison, who will send an escort for him. Not to be arrested after 30th June, 1913, on which date his licence expires. 2.— N Divisionm— For attempting to obtain money by false pretences.— HENRY ALLEN, alias HARRY GRUNNILL, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., slight build, complexion dark, thin face, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; dress, dark lounge suit. Late of Orby Lofts, Burgh, Lincolnshire. He advertises pigeons with spurious pedigrees for sale in the Homing Pigeon. SMITH, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., inclined to be stout, com- plexion fresh, rather full face, hair and moustache ( slightly curly) light brown, eyes ( large and pro- minent) blue; dress, dark grey overcoat, grey speckled or dark jacket suit, bowler hat, lace boots. CITY OF LONDON. 4.— THOMAS BARTLETT GADD, Case No. 8, 18th ult., deceased. 5.— For obtaining £ o 15s. by false pretences ( Exchange and Mart fraud), 28th September last. — ALFRED WILLIAMSON, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., good build, complexion, hair and moustache dark ; dress, dark jacket suit, cap; some- times wears engineer's overalls. Supposed an en- gineer. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 6.— For stealing an electric standard lamp.— ERNEST SHARP, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 ins., com- plexion very pale, hair dark brown, eyes brown, burn scar front right forearm, two burn scars back left forearm, near e. bow, dress, light mixture jacket suit, bowler hat. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 39 6s. 4d. by false pretences, 7th ult.— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaven; wearing dark clothes and bowler hat. Warrant issued Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE- 9.— Slough ( County).— For stealing tools ( recovered) from unfinished buildings ( 3 cases).— A MAN, age about 45, height about 6 ft., com- plexion sallow, rather long thin features, hair and heavy moustache very dark, leans slightly forward when walking; dress, dark blue single- breasted overcoat, blue trousers, cap, military boots; ap- pearance of ex- soldier or policeman. States he has served in a military band. In one case he left the tools at a railway station, and in another at a public- house. Visits public- houses where there is a piano, which he will play alone for hours. May be accompanied by a woman ( supposed wife). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearman, Slough. CHESHIRE. 10 .— Altrincham ( County).— For stealing a pair of light lace boots, size 8, patent leather toes, rubber heels; 1 pair blueish- grey trousers, and 3s.— JOHN HAYES, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes grey; wear- ing dark trousers, brown muffler, grey cap, and the stolen boots. Supposed a native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Altrincham. 11 — Broxton ( CountiA.— For stealing £ 105, at Eaton, 17th ult.— HARRY EDWARDS, age about 38, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean shaven; dress, blue serge suit and cap, had with him a coat. During the past 14 years he has been employed clipping and singeing horses at Eaton Stables, and for some time he has acted as dining caterer. Is fond of betting, and may be found at establishments where horses are kept. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hoole, Broxton. CUMBERLAND. 12.— Cocker mouth ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 8 10s., 25 th ult.— GEORGE JEN- NINGS, age 27, height about 5 ft. 7 ine., com- plexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaven, front teeth decayed; dress, dark brown tweed suit, brown tweed overcoat, black felt hat. In possession of cheque- book on Liverpool Bank ( Cockermouth Branch) and may attempt to pass worthless cheques. Was acting as agent for sale of type- writers. Absconded 25th ult. Accompanied by a man ( not wanted), age 27, complexion fair, clean shaven; dress, dark tweed suit, black hard felt hat; both of smart appearance and good address; stay at first- class hotels. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Illingworth, Cockermouth. DENBIGHSHIRE- 13— Wrexham ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered).— JOSEPH HOLMES, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; may be wearing breeches and leggings. A farm hand, but may be employed as carter with town contractors. Warrant issued. 14.— Wrexham ( County).— For obtaining goods by false pretences.— HARRY CLARK ( sup- posed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., hair dark brown, eyes ( prominent) dark, good teeth; dress, grey jacket suit, overcoat and cap, buttoned boots. Had a smart high- class bicycle, green en- amelled. He took apartments for himself and a fellow servant, stating they were in the employ of a gentleman who had taken a hunting box in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. DURHAM. 16.— J arrow ( GouiUy).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, lst inst.— JAMES WILLIAM ARMSTRONG, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( waxed at ends) brown, aquiline nose; wearing dark clothing, green bow tie, hard felt hat, supposed an overcoat. Stated he represented the Prudential Assurance Company, and for the purpose of advertising he was selling a coupon for 10s. in each town, the purchaser of same would receive £ 10 a week later, without further pay- ment. A mosaic pavior. May be found offering knives, scissors, etc., for sale. Warrant issued. 18 — Southend ( County).— For stealing from liis lodgings, 29th ult., a new black plush full- length coat, 2 large braided fasteners in front; 1 new blue Melton Raglan overcoat, usual flap pockets; 1 fancy blue serge jacket; 1 9- ct. gold chain, 9- ct. gold locket, containing photograph of a baby attached; 1 lady's 18- ct. gold dress ring, set 2 diamonds and sapphire in centre; 1 do. gold gipsy ring, set diamond; 1 very thin wedding ring, 9- ct. heart with initials " A. R." thereon af- fixed; 1 lady's silver watch, flowered dial, Roman figures, in celluloid case; 1 pair lady's patent leather golosh boots, size 5, " E. E. E. E." stamped inside.— THOMAS DUNN, age 38, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, very thick eyebrows, eyes dark blue, addicted to drink; dress, dark grey mixture suit, greenish tweed cap, blue jersey, brown boots. GLA MORGANSHIRE. 19.— C a r di ff ( City). — For shopbreaking' 9th September, and stealing property described in Case 57, 13th September last.— ARTHUR ARMSTEAD, age 27, height 5 ft. 6* ins., complexion fresh, oval face, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, green overcoat, brown soft felt hat, initials " J. A." in ink inside. On 19th August last he was sentenced to 14 clays' im prisonment for refractory conduct at Newcastle Emlyn. A labourer; native of Merthyr. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 20.— Gloucester ( County).— For obtaining £ 10 by a worthless cheque. — FRED C. VAUGHAN, age about 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., very corpulent, weight about 19 stones, hair dark brown, clean shaven, round face, eyes blue; dress, blue serge suit, light cap; usually wears a heavy gold or gold- coloured watch- chain, with Ma- sonic ball- shaped seal, opens with a spring, which discloses four sections. A native of New Brighton. On 27th ult., he took lodgings at an hotel, stated lie was the lessee and manager of the Palace Theatre, New Brighton, and induced the landlady to cash a cheque for him, on the London City & Midland Bank, Ltd., North and South Wales, Bank Branch, New Brighton, which was returned marked " No account." Prior to 8th July last, he was manager of the Palace Theatre, New Brighton. See Case No. 5, 18th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. Is an absentee from the 2nd Border Regi- ment, Pembroke Dock. Native of St. Patrick's, Manchester, Left Bordon for Waterloo 22nd ult. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. 22.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For embezzl- ing £ 8, 23rd ult.— GEORGE BERTRAM, age 19, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., hair brown; dress, blue serge suit, spotted tie. A clerk; previously re- sided at Weymouth. Warrant issued. 23.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— Vor obtaining £ 3 3s., by a worthless cheque, 25th ult.— WIL- LIAM BRADBURY, alias FREDERICK CHARLES VAUGHAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. ins., stout build, weight 19 stones, complexion fresh, hair brown; dress, blue serge suit, grey tweed cap, gold watch chain with Masonic em- blem ( representation of the world) as pendant. Formerly manager of the Palace Theatre, New Brighton. Frequents music- halls and picture pal- aces. See Case No. 5, 18th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 24 — Southampton ( Borough).— For rape, 3rd inst.— F. C. KENNER, alias KENNY, PEARCE, PAGE and ALLEN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion ruddy, hair, turning grey and bristly, dark brown, eyes ( small) dark; a heavy drinker; dress, blue suit, grey soft hat, brown overcoat and shoes; usually wears two rings, one plain gold, the other set square blue stone on left little finger, pin with blue stone to match, heavy gold ring, set 2 diamonds and emer- ald on 3rd left finger. Believed a native of Van- couver. He stays at first or second- rate hotels, inserts bogus advertisements in newspapers for a lady's companion, secretary, typist, etc., to travel abroad, with the object of procuring young women for an immoral purpose. HERTFORDSHIRE. 25.— Bishops Stortford ( County).— For obtaining, 5th ult., £ 2 10s., by a forged and altered Post Office money- order.— HENRY EDWARD CLARKE- KING, alias DENNISON, WIL- LIAMS, etc., Office No. 2781- 01 ( see Cases 30 and 38, lst inst., and Illustrated Circular 77, Fig. 12). KENT. 26.— Ashford ( County).— For stealing, 23rd September, a tremelo mandoline piano organ, No. 1947 on keyboard.— LEONARD LAMBERT, age about 27, height 6 ft., complexion, hair and eyes dark, clean shaven; dress, dark jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, cap. Believed a native of East- bourne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Ashford. 27.— Chatham ( County):— For embezzlement. — HARRY WILLIAM SIDDERS, alias ROBERT HENRY SHILLING, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 ins/, complexion ruddy, hair dark brown, eyes grey, high cheek bones, of military appear- ance; dress, brown jacket and trousers, blue vest with light stripes, green cap, lace boots. Was a butcher in the Royal Engineers at Aldershot. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rhodes, Chatham. 28.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For wilfully neglecting his children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering, 23rd ult.— JOHN NIEMAN, alias CLARK, age 65 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 8 ins., shoulders droop slightly, eyes ( prominent) blue, wears glasses; dress, dark dust coat, dark trousers. A native of Islington. May be accompanied by his two sons and a daughter, ages 21, 19, and 17 respectively. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. LANCASHIRE. 29.— Manchester ( City).— For stealing ( bailee), 2nd ult., a lady's 18- ct. gold ring, new, set 3 diamonds.— ABRAHAM ROBINSON, alias GISEMAN, GUISEMAN and GEISTMAN, a Jew, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion dark, large nose, hair ( wavy or curly) dark, clean shaven, wearing light overcoat, green soft felt hat, brown boots. Had with him a large travelling trunk tied with cord, new brown leather bag, a suit case and hat- box. A cap designer; native of Warsaw. Speaks English fluently, also German, French, Russian and Polish. May en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to t^ ie Chief Constable, Manchester. 80.— Blackpool ( Borough).- For stealing, 20th ult., a green overcoat, double breasted, with brown stripes, straps on cuffs and at back, " Dawson, Church Street, Blackpool," on inside.— JAMES HESKETH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., hair dark brown, very slight moustache dark, impediment in speech; dress, grey suit, soiled, muf- fler, light tweed cap, and the stolen overcoat. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 31.— Salford ( Borough).— For [ stealing £ 143. — LEONARD RATCLIFFE, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, blue serge suit, dark tweed overcoat, grey cap.— SYDNEY RATCLIFFE, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, nose has been broken; dress, blue serge suit, dark tweed overcoat, grey cap.— JAMES MARCIIINGTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, blue serge suit, grey cap, dark striped overcoat. SHROPSHIRE. 32.— Oswestry ( County).— For stealing, 25th ult., a Rudge- Whitworth bicycle, 24- in. frame, black enamelled, 26- in. wheels, old front tyre with cut across, patch underneath, new back tyre with indelible pencil marks of daje, etc., thereon, very wide mudguards back and front, leather mud- splasher, front rim brake, dropped handle bars, right broken nearly through, left cracked under bell, Brooks saddle, black celluloid pump; a brown mackintosh was tied on back mudguard with a blueish neck- tie.— GEORGE JONES, age about 20, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaven; dress, dark jacket and vest, cap, blue overalls. A native of Oswes- try and a private of the 3rd R. W. F. Special Re- serve. Has travelled the country with round- abouts, etc. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hamlet, Oswestry. SOMERSE TSHIRE. 33— Bath ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences.— GEORGE BUTT, ace 42, height 5 ft. 3J ins., complexion sallow, hair and small mous- tache black, eyes brown; dress, old suit, usually wears a coat with large side pockets, and soft hat. Will probably be found working as a jobbing gardener or on a farm; usually stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 31.— Cannock ( County).— For obtaining 3s. 9d. by false pretences.— JOHN HAY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair light sandy, moustache ( heavy) sandy, eyes ( small piercing) blue; has several artificial teeth upper jaw; dress, blue coat, vest and trousers, lace boots, size 10 or 11, bowler hat, blue tie. Has a brown papier- mache box bag, containing dental instru- ments. A dental canvasser. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Campbell, Cannock. 33.— Stoke - on- Trent ( Borough).— For obtaining food by false pretences.— HENRY MARSDEN, age about 26, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair very light brown; dress, dark suit, white woollen scarf, light cap.— WILL WILLIAMS, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion pale, hair ( cropped close) dark brown; dress, dark blue suit, dark cap. SUFFOLK ( East). 36.— Ipswich ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered).— LESTER HENRY BROCK, age 28, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, of smart appearance; usually wears breeches and leggings. A dealer; native of Ipswich. Is a reservist of the Royal Engineers. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ipswich. SURREY. 37.— Chertsey ( County).— For failing to sur- render to his bail, 15th ult., on a charge of in- decent assault.— GEORGE SHEPHERD, age 41 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( nearly white on top) dark, moustache black, eyes grey, rather broad forehead, furrow centre of chin. A jobbing gardener; is also an ardent angler. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mears, Chartsey. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. from women under promise of marriage; at other times he represents himself as a property owner, RADNORSHIRE. 38.— Llandrindod Wells ( County).— For stealing, 29th ult. ( by trick), £ 18.— JOHN JONES, alias BROOKS, SMITH, BAKER and KING ( also known as " King of the Bristol Forty Thieves"), Office No. 1216- 12, age 70, height 5 ft. suit, black bowler hat. Native of Newtown; and A MAN, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion dark, hair brown, moustache dark brown; dress, blue Melton coat, breeches, brown shoes and leggings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Llandrindod Wells. advertises in local papers for collector, etc., and obtains deposits. Has been convicted of bigamy, conspiracy to defraud, larceny, etc. Warrant issued.
