All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. " 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if tlicy are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. .3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all casts where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. o. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be. inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( is. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made ill the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. < G. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. \ nnouncements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the. request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly ri sponsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on IV < dnesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a coveriny letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. A. F.," etc., tattooed left forearm, and pierced heart left hand; dress, blue serge suit, hard felt hat, boots with patent leather toe- caps, wore a silver watch chain with a Kruger two- shilling piece as pendant, described himself as a shopman, but is a striker. DERBYSHIRE. 8.— Alfreton ( County).— For stealing from her lodgings, 22nd ult., a pair of women's lace boots, size 5, 1 silver curb albert, 2 silver medals, rabbit engraved on one, and a threepenny- piece attached.— POLLY GOODACRE, age 20, ' height 5 ft. 4 to 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes ( peculiar) grey, two letters tattooed on one forearm; dress, black princess robe, trimmed black beads from shoulders, black beaver hat, trimmed black and white wing, and the stolen boots. A domestic servant or housekeeper. Stated she had obtained a situation at a public- house, that her husband was killed in a colliery, and that she was in receipt of 15s. per week compensation. DEVONSHIRE. 9.— Torquay ( County).— For stealing a bag containing about £ 9, from a nursing home, 20th ult.— A WOMAN, age 30 to 35t height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion rather pale, hair light, eyes ( prominent) blue, of smart appearance; dress, dark blue or black costume, light hat, white or grey motor veil. A nurse. Stated she came from a hospital at Dundee; usually takes a situation stat- ing that her testimonials will be forwarded in a day or two. Information to Supt. Roberts, Torquay. ESSEX. 10.— Chelmsford ( County).— For indecently assaulting a child, 25th ult.— JOSEPH CARDER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., very stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair dark brown, small moustache dark, eyes brown; dress, navy blue suit, brown cap, fancy spotted blue and green vest. A blacksmith. Has served in the Royal Horse Artillery and usually wears South African War Medals. Is fond of frequenting boxing saloons. Warrant issued. A truckman or labourer native of Cardiff. May be found at common lodging houses or casual wards. A labourer; native of Pol- lockshaws. Stated he had served in the 3rd and 6th Battalions Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Warrant issued. 26.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing a light grey mixed tweed shooting coat, rough material, belt half way around back, 2 top and 2 bottom pockets, patch pattern, button on each, 7 buttons on left sleeve, 3 buttons down front, all leather covered; 1 do. vest, 4 pockets, 13 but- tons, low front; 1 new light cap, large peak, band around edge, flat top, and £ 1.— JOHN WILLIE ADAMS, age 22 to 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, profusely tattooed on chest, arms and fingers; dress, the stolen coat and vest, old thick dark green trousers with red stripes, new black and white check muffler, old light boots with nar- row toes. A groom; believed a native of Norwich. He was employed by a horse dealer and absconded 19th ult., with a bicycle, road racer, black en amelled, 24- in. frame, 28 by wheels, black rims, " Knockout" front tyre, new cheap back tyre, dropped handle bars, black grips, front lever brake, rubber pedals, free wheel, new black mudguards, 1- in. pitch roller chain. RYAN, alios FERGUSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, long features, cheeks slightly sunken, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, teeth rather prominent; dress, grey tweed coat and trousers, band across back of coat, green vest with small spots, grey cap, brown boots, large horse- shoe pattern pin, set stones or brilliants. S TA FFORGSHIRE. 29.— Stoke- on- Trent ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 44 between June and August, 1912. — FRANCIS JONES, age 40, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair and rather heavy moustache light brown; dress, blue serge suit, green Alpine hat, lace boots. An insurance agent. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hanley, Stoke- on- Trent. SURREY. SO— Guildford ( Borough).— For stealing £ 1 2s., 23rd ult., from his lodgings. ROBIN- SON, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., com- plexion fresh, Roman nose, hair and slight mous- tache light, bad front teeth; dress, dark grey suit, black felt hat, patent leather boots with grey cloth tops. He obtained lodgings 22nd ult., stating he was opening a cycle shop in the town, and that his luggage was at the station. Absconded the follow- ing morning. SUSSEX ( East). 31.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing £ 14 4s., from a till, 21st ult.— TWO MEN : 1st, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion sallow, delicate appearance, hair and moustache dark; dress, navy blue suit, black felt hat; 2ndr age 24 or 25, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, clean shaven; dress, greyish mixture suit, large light grey cap. The first described entered an optician's shop, purchased a small reading glass for his brother, and changed a sovereign; shortly afterwards the second man entered with several! chips of wood, stating some boys had cut the wood^ work in front of the shop, thus inducing the assist- ant to leave the shop; on his return he found the first man at the counter, who stated he wished to change the glass as it did not suit, after he left the money was missed from the till. Supposed accompanied by TWO MEN: 1st, age 24 or 25. height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion ruddy, full face, clean shaven; dress, navy blue suit, white straw hat; 2nd, age 33 to 35, height about 5 ft. 11 ins., full face, bloated, clean shaven; dress, dark suit,, hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Eastbourne. SUSSEX ( West.) 32 — Worthing ( County).— For obtaining £' 2 14s. by a worthless cheque on the London, County & Westminster Bank, Horsham branch, No. Q. 71535, made payable to Mr. F. Barnes and signed A. F. Napper.— FRANK BARNES, age 26, or 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, red face, hair light, heavy moustache ginger; dress, green mixture tweed suit and cap. A native of Stor- rington. He was accompanied by ARNOLD ELMS, age 20 to 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., hair light, clean shavfen, defective sight, blue scar bridge of nose caused by wearing glasses; dress, rough tweed suit, green felt hat. A photographer; native of Storrington, and is wanted on warrant at Oxted. They are believed to have in their possession a number of stolen cheques, and are addicted to gambling and betting; also attend race meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bridger, Worthing. WILTSHIRE. 33. Marlborough ( County).- For obtaining 2s. 6d. by false pretences at Ludgershall, 15th July last.— H. ARMSTRONG, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., full face, hair dark brown, mous- tache dark; dress, brown coat, green cycling knickers, black stockings with red tops, dark cap. A photographer. He takes photographs of cottages in country districts, offers to supply 12 copies for 2s. 6d.; if possible obtains the money in advance, but fails to forward the photographs. Was accom- panied by A MAN, age about 56, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., slight build, hair and beard grey; dress, black suit, bowler hat, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 81.— Hull ( City).— For converting £ 5 to his owi » use 12th ult.— FREDERICK HINDES or- HINDS, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) grey, mous tache brown, turning grey; dress, light pepper- and- salt colour suit, light cap, right boot cracked on- top. A labourer or tallyman; native of Beverley^ Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 35.— Hull ( City).— For being concerned with two men in custody, charged with stealing scrap brass.— JOHN PLATT, age 26, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, round face, complexion dark, hair and eyebrows dark brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, thin lips, front upper teeth discoloured, one right finger missing; dress, blue serge suit, brown sweater, light cap, brown lace boots. A labourer; native of Manchester. Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Hull. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 36— Bradford ( City).— For wounding.— ARTHUR SIMPSON, alias STEELE, RAPER and McGEE, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, clean shaven, 2 large marks right side of head, scar corner of left eye, left side of upper lip, back of right shoulder, back of right forefinger, right shin and centre of back, faint tattoo marks right forearm ; dress, dark jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, muffler, cap, had with him a dark suit. Previously convicted at Brad- ford, Leeds, Oldham, Edinburgh and Liverpool. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT £ 50 REWARD. 87.— W Division.— For stealing £ 623 18s. 5d., 31st ult.— RICHARD SMITH, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; when absconded was wearing a beard of two days' growth; dress, blue serge lounge suit, black tic and hard felt hat, lace boots. A book- keeper; late of Orlando Road, Clapham, S. W. May endeavour to leave the coun- try. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Ross & Co., Ltd., Opticians, 3, North Side, Clapham Common, London, S. W., to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of above described man and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of such property recovered.
