POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 2992. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby utentified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions mutt be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 84. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of Gs. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4 remittance of 6 » . should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. t. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far at practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may rtsult from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded to at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be tn advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, fcj Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. IS. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for tuch insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. Supposed a native of Edin- burgh. 5.— Y Division.— For stealing a mare ( recovered) and a set of harness.— LEWIS TAY- LOR, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, nose rather large and twisted, clean shaven, carries his head forward; wearing shabby dark clothing and cap. A native of Harringay, London. Associates with low horse dealers. May be found in the hop districts of Kent. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 1 .— Stockport ( Borough).— For Stealing, 20th inst., from his lodgings, £ 5 and several arti- cles of jewellery.— CHARLES EDWARD AM- BROSE, Office No. 2753- 02, age 29, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, sailor, etc., right, " T. A. F.," etc., tattooed left forearm, and pierced heart left hand; dress, blue serge suit, hard felt hat, boots with patent leather toe- caps, wore a silver watch chain with a Kruger two- shilling piece as pendant, described himself as a shopman, but is a striker. DERBYSHIRE. 8.— Alfreton ( County).— For stealing from her lodgings, 22nd inst., a pair of women's lace boots, size 5, 1 silver curb albert, 2 silver medals, rabbit engraved on one, and a threepenny- piece attached.— POLLY GOODACRE, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes ( peculiar) grey, two letters tattooed on one forearm; dress, black princess robe, trimmed black beads from shoulders, black beaver hat, trimmed black and white wing, and the stolen boots. A domestic servant or housekeeper. Stated she had obtained a situation at a public- house, that her husband was killed in a colliery, and that she was in receipt of 15s. per week compensation. DURHAM. 9 — Gateshead ( Borough,).— For failing to notify change of residence.— THOMAS WIL- LIAMS, alias CHALK, Office No. 1292- 02, age 26, height 5 ft. 4f ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey, scar left side of head, left cheek bone and jaw, blue dot back of right hand, " W. C." back left forearm, 2 blue dots back left hand. A blacksmith. Has served in the Royal Horse Artillery and usually wears South African War Medals. Is fond of frequenting boxing saloons. Warrant issued. A groom; believed a native of Norwich. He was employed by a horse dealer and absconded 19th inst., with a bicycle, road racer, black en- amelled, 24- in. frame, 28 by wheels, black rims, Knockout" front tyre, new cheap back tyre, dropped handle bars, black grips, front lever brake, rubber pedals, free wheel, new black mudguards, 1- in. pitch roller chain. SURREY. 24.— Guildford ( BoroughI.— For stealing £ 1 2s., 23rd inst., from his lodgings. ROBIN- SON, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., com- plexion fresh, Roman nose, hair and slight mous- tache light, bad front teeth; dress, dark grey suit, black felt hat, patent leather boots with grey cloth tops. He obtained lodgings 22nd inst., stating he was opening a cycle shop in the town, and that his luggage was at the station. Absconded the follow- ing morning. SUSSEX ( West.) 25.— Worthing ( County).— For obtaining £ 2 14s. by a worthless cheque on the London, County & Westminster Bank, Horsham branch, No. Q. 71535, made payable to Mr. F. Barnes and signed A. F. Napper.— FRANK BARNES, age 26, or 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, red face, hair light, heavy moustache ginger; dress, green mixture tweed suit and cap. A native of Stor- rington. He was accompanied by ARNOLD ELMS, age 20 to 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., hair light, clean shaven, defective sight, blue scar bridge of nose caused by wearing glasses; dress, rough tweed suit, green felt hat. A photographer; native of Storrington, and is wanted on warrant at Oxted. They are believed to have in their possession a number of stolen cheques, and are addicted to gambling and betting; also attend race meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bridger, Worthing. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 26.— Hull ( City).— For converting £ 5 to his own use 12th inst.— FREDERICK HINDES or HINDS, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion pale, hair ( bald on top) grey, mous- tache brown, turning grey; dress, light pepper- and- salt colour suit, light cap, right boot cracked on top. A labourer or tallyman; native of Beverley. Frequents common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 27.— Hull ( City).— For being concerned with two men in custody, charged with stealing scrap brass.— JOHN PLATT, age 26, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, round face, complexion dark, hair and eyebrows dark brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, thin lips, front upper teeth discoloured, one right finger missing; dress, blue serge suit, brown sweater, light cap, brown lace boots. For embezzling £ 4 16s. 6d.— FRANK THOMAS BROWN, alias JOHN BROWN, age 37, height 5 ft. 8 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, abscess marks on neck. A canvasser. Warrant issued. TILLEY, age 34, height 5 ft.. 10 ins., complexion ruddy, hair ( going bald) light brown, eyes brown, prominent teeth, scar end of tongue, - scars left eyebrow, under right side of chin, boil marks back of neck, royal coat- of- arms, lion and unicorn on chest, end of left forefinger straight. A farm bailiff; states he was born at Banwell, Somerset. Is identical with HENRY" JAMES WILLETT, Case No. 40, 22nd March, 1907. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. L. H." thereon. Is an accomp- lished pianist; fond of cycling, boxing and picture theatres. The above photograph was taken three or four years ago, is a good likeness, but he has developed considerably since then. Warrant issued.
