All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions nlaling to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF TH « POLICI GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 3. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions mult be clearly stated. it. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of Ss. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6 » . should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. • 3. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 0. 10 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear m number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTB, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsibU for any proceedings which may result frvm tuch publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should b » forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard fc » Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion i » the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. A. 3872, Singer 1911 model, 4- cylinder engine, White k Poppe carburettor, Sankey all- steel road wheels, 2- seated, long back, 5 electric lamps, operated by Trier & Martin's dynamo, control switch on dash board and electric cells contained in box on off side step, wind screen removed.— A. REGINALD HERVEY BATHURST, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fair, rather full round face, hair and small moustache, turned up at ends, light, eyes prominent, grey, lisps slightly; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat. Supposed" a native of Lon- don. May be touring with friends in car No. L. A. 6756, 150- H. P., F. I. A. T., 2 tyres on each back wheel, painted dark grey. Warrant issued. A BERDEENSHIRE. 8 — Abnrrlf*^ n ( City).— For failing to sur- render to their bail, on charge of fraud between the 3rd and 9th May, 1912.— GEORGE HEWES, Office No. S. 139524, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion swarthy, hair black ( long), eyes grey, clean shaven, slender build; and ALICE JONES or HEWES ( wife of the above), age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair fair, stout build, small mole side of nose, little finger left hand crooked. Tliev caused advertisements to be inserted in the local newspapers, of bicycles, furs, and gramophones to be sold at great sacrifice, and in this way disposed of about 30 worthless bi- cycles and absconded, but in due course were arres- ted at Blackpool, and committed to take their trial on the 13th inst., bail being allowed. May be found residing with their two children, the elder of whom is named George Hewes, age 14 years. They may also have with them a woman named Maud Flory, age about 26, tall and dark. ANTRIM. 9 .— B ally m en a . — For fraudulently converting to his own use two sums of money, amounting to £ 539, between 16th December, 1911, and 19th March, 1912.— HUGH BOAL. age about 32, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, hard felt hat. Supposed to have absconded about 14th July. Fond of horse- racing and cards; northern accent. A solicitor; native of Ballymena. Warrant issued. BEDFORDSHIRE. 10.— Bedford ( County).— For absconding from the Bedfordshire Reformatory at Turvey, 17th inst., and stealing two bicycles ( 1 black enamelled frame, zinc- colour handle bars, 2 lamp brackets, free wheel, coaster hub, front rim brake, mud- guards, flap on front, black pump and carrier, two tool bags, maker " Lightstrung, Rushden," on head, plated rims, cape, black lamp; 1 do., lined red, high frame, plated upturned handle bars and pump, inverted lever rim brakes, black carrier, black cape thereon, mudguards, flap on front, maker " Hercules," on head, No. 3627, plated candle lamp); also another cycle lamp.— HENRY HURRELL, age 16, height 5 ft. 1 in., sturdy build, complexion dark, ruddy, hair dark, brown, eyes hazel; dress, black suit, army shirt, marked 3rd Beds Regt., No. 299.— GEORGE APPLETON, age 16, height 5 ft. 7 ins., com- plexion fair, hair brown, thick eyebrows, eyes blue, prominent lips ; dress, dark blue suit, maker " H. BUG KING HA MS HI RE. 11.— Slough ( County).— For stealing a railway carriage horsehair cushion ( recovered).— JAMES SANDERS, alias HENLEIGH, HENLEY, SMART, etc., Office No. 1974- 08, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown, 3 blue dots ( indistinct) and scar left forearm, scar left of neck and left jaw. When excited has slight impediment in speech. An en- gine driver; native of Tiverton, Devon. Has been convicted at Wooton Bassett, Bristol, Penarth, Cardiff, Torpoint, and Wells. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 15.— LI and Ho ( County).— For leaving his family chargeable to the Common Fund of Llan- dilofawr Union.— WILLIAM CROOKS, age 41, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, right eye missing, addicted to drink; dress, dark jacket suit, bowler hat. May seek employment as clerk, storekeeper or labourer. A native of Port Talbot, Glamorgan. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. IQ.— Llandilo ( County).— For stealing £ 10 from a dwelling house at Cilycwm.— GEORGE THOMAS MANSER, age 16, heigKl 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown; dress, dark grey suit and cap. Has been in Highbury Industrial School. A native of London. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Llandilo. CHESHIRE. 17.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 9th inst., a lady's 18- ct. gold dress ring, set 3 small diamonds; 1 gold ring, set white oval ' stone, with dark blue rim round, and inside the stone was a pearl set in gold, which was loose; 1 pair black opera glasses in black leather case. WHITE, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh ( rather tanned), hair fair ( thin on top), moustache sandy, bad teeth, several mis- sing in front, tattooed right arm; dress, blue serge coat, dark brown cord trousers, light cap, light lace boots, which were clumsily soled. Warrant issued. 18.— CrOWO ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences.— TAYLOR, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, hair dark brown ( bald on top), clean shaven, prominent teeth, slight cut scar top lip. York- shire accent; dress, dark stripe suit, straw hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 19.— Macclesfield ( Borough).- For stealing, 9th inst., a brown wooden box, 14 ins. by 9 ins., containing a small cash box and £ 24.— EDITH GOODWIN, age 18, height 4 ft. 10 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, ab scess scar right jaw; dress, black f- length jacket, white blouse, black bat, shoes. A domestic ser- vant. Has been convicted at Manchester and Macclesfield. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Macclesfield. before obtaining employment. Warrant issued. 23.— Cardiff ( City).— For failing to join ship after negotiating an advance note.— VICTOR FLETCHER, age 42, height 5 ft. 4J ins., hair black, eyes dark, clean shaven; a man of colour, scar over left eye. DURHAM. 20.— Durham ( County).— For stealing at Old Quarrington training stables, 20th ult., a light fawn rainproof coat, red check lining, two pockets outside, 1 large and 1 small do. inside, bone but- tons, maker's name on hanger, letters worked in green; 1 pair dark kid gloves.— PATRICK O BOYLE, age 20 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fair, very prominent nose, good teeth, hair light, eyes blue, stoops slightly; dress, lark grey suit, light cap.. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 25.— Dursley ( County).— For embezzling £ 5 lis.— JAMES ALFRED KEEFE, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey, bushy eyebrows, large Roman nose, protruding ears; dress, grey suit, straw hat, brown band, light lace- up boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Perkins, Dursley. 26.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing a postal order, value 2s., and 2 postage stamps.— CHAS. STYCHE, alias JERROL, BUXTON and CLIF- FORD, Office No. S. 152081, age 31, height 5 ft. ins., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes hazel, clean shaven, dark mark right top of forehead, also a lump on one hand caused, apparently, by a displaced bone; dress, grey Norfolk suit, green soft hat or cap; may be wearing a Primrose League badge. Well educated; styles himself an insur- ance surveyor, and sometimes an artists' model; speaks a great deal of music- hall artists, in whose company he may be found. Warrant issued. Absconded 28th ult'. Has in his possession his National Insurance card, which must be deposited at a Labour Exchange HAMPSHIRE. 27.— Aldershot ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, a brown mackintosh, may have maker's mark " Poronella " thereon; 1 pair box calf boots, Derby fronts, " Moccasin" make, size 6, Nos. 755266, D. 83 and W. 129 inside uppers. JAMES PATRICK GAFFNEY, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh and slightly freckled, hair inclined to ginger, eyes blue and rather sore, horse's head, horse shoe and Gaffney right fore- arm ; dress, dark grey tweed suit, cap. Was dis- charged from the Army Service Corps for felony. May be found at race- meetings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Aldershot. 28.— Alton ( County).— For stealing a pony ( recovered).— A MAN, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 ins. complexion pale, hair ( bald patch on top) and slight moustache dark, crossed swords, heart and love right arm; dress, dark tweed jacket and trou sers, green striped vest, straw hat. A chauffeur. Was accompanied by A GIRL, age 15 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, blue Norfolk jacket, skirt and blouse, black straw hat, trimmed forget- me nots and roses. A domestic servant. They left Haslemere for Waterloo, 16th inst. Had with them a tin trunk and two cardboard boxes. Information to Supt. Reuben. Alton. 29.— Fareham '( County\— For stealing a number of golf balls ( recovered) at Lee, 29th ult — PONSONBY ALDRIDGE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown turning grey, moustache ginger; dress, dark jacket and vest, blue trousers, light lace boots grey cap, carried an overcoat ( believed brown) Was temporarily employed as a caddie at the golf links, Lee- on- the- Solent, and may seek similar em ployment. HEREFORDSHIRE. 30.— Hereford ( County).— For manslaughter at Wellington, 17th ult.— TOM GRIFFITHS, age KENT. 32.— Dover ( Borough).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Dover Union.— JAMES HENRY HARTFIELD, age 37, height ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue, lump right side of neck, first joint of one finger deficient; dress, black jacket, dark vest with astrachan front, moleskin trousers, black silk neckerchief, heavy watertight boots. A labourer;, native of East Grinstead. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 33.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For wilfully neglecting his children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering and injury to health. — DANIEL BROWN, age about 45, height 6 ft., complexion pale, heavy moustache, two wounds right leg, looks ill and appears to be in consump- tion. Warrant issued. 34.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For non- pay- ment of £ 10 14s., maintenance arrears.— REU- BEN GEORGE BISSMERE, age 32, height 5 ft. ins., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown. A compositor; may join a local football club. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 85.— Ramsgate {( Borough.).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 18th inst,— H. ELEN, alias ELLEN, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion and eyes dark, clean shaven, promin- ent features; dress, light grey jacket suit, long dark tie, believed grey cap; of theatrical appear- ance. He called at the Post Office for a letter, and stated he expected to receive a money- order with same, asked the clerk to advance him £ 2 until 10 a. m. the following morning, leaving what appeared to be a gold watch with the clerk; at a. m. the next day he called, cashed a money- order, and absconded. The watch was afterwards found to be a new cheap one. Warrant issued. 86.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For failing to appear to a summons, 9th inst., for assault.— MORRIS, alias ROCKMAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., large growth on nose. Absconded 8th inst. Accompanied by a man and a little boy. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. S7.— Chorley ( County).— For stealing, 14th inst., a jacket suit, " Bottomley's, Chorley," on tab, raised seams, dark cloth, blue stripe running through, usual pockets.— THOMAS MASSEY, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, clean shaven, hair very dark, bad front teeth; dress, dark jacket and vest, grey ftrouselrs, cap with brooch in front, black and white plaid muffler. A spinner; native of Lostock Hall. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Whittaker, Chorley. 38.— old Trafford ( County).— For obta ining £ 4 10s. 3Jd., by false pretences ( worthless cheque). — G. CROSS, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair, moustache and side whis- kers grey; dress, grey tweed suit, double- breasted jacket, bowler hat. Warrant issued. Information to Actg.- Supt. Howarth, Old Traf- ford. LINCOLNSHIRE. 89.— Grimsby ( borough).— For stealing £ 996 12s. 4d., 12th inst.-- GEORGE L. PENNINGTON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, broad shoulders, complexion fresh, round face, hair light, turning grey, bald on top, moustache light brown, front teeth missing in upper jaw; dress, blue serge or grey suit, brown boots, straw hat, plausible manner. May be found at race- meetings or in company of book- makers. Absconded 12th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Grimsby. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. The man then in the name of Humphreys and Young, advertised for clerks, managers, and canvassers for the dentistry business. All the persons who applied for the posts were told they would be appointed, and he received from each £ 1 as a security. They absconded 30th ult., and upon the return of the tenant of the house, the above mentioned goods were found to have been stolen.
