All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF TIU POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward ia offered, the name and address of some, person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension i « sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8J. per portrait, and engravings of stoUn property at a cost of per photograph or sketch, unless the article ij large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .1 remittance of 6 » . should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches.- 6. Svery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent ; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may he. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, » r analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear • number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be T titer ted in the POLICB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which tna- j result ( ton rurh jmblication. 11. Annoimcrinents for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not Uitrr than noon en Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must b< clearly written on one side of the pavr only; they must be in tfce usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 13. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 18. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing l'erson's " are only accepted on payment but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be. guaranteed. Native of Sevenoaks, Kent; also well known at Chatham. 2.— K Division.— For obtaining grocery, value 5s. li£ d., by false pretences.— IVY HEDGE, age 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, long straight nose, hair dark brown, eyes brown', Scotch accent; dress, green blouse and skirt, green leather belt, biscuit- coloured straw hat, trim- med roses, lace shoes, piece of black velvet around neck, badge brooch thereon. Represents herself to be secretary to the Thistle and Forget- me- not Leagues, hiring rooms for poor children during their holidays, and obtains goods and money. Warrant issued. 4.- M Division.— For stealing ( sevvant) leather and grindery between 6th March and 4th July, 1912.— GEORGE ANDREWS, age 40, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion pale, hair and moustache fair, eyes blue; walks very quickly; heavy drinker; may be found in company of prosti- tutes; dress, blue serge suit, dark green Alpine hat, light fawn mackintosh. Warrant issued. 5 — N Division.— For obtaining money by false pretences.— EDWARD NUTBROWN, alias A. E. ASHTON, Office No. S/ 10279, age 31, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, anchor left forearm; dress, light check suit, cloth cap, collar and tie and light tan boots. A printer; native of Sheffield. Representing himself as a corporal of the 2nd Dragoon Guards, called on a clergyman and said he had reserve pay due to him, he then wrote a letter to officer in charge of cavalry records, requesting the money to be forwarded to the victimised person. Warrant issued. 6,— N Division.— For embezzling £ 3 10s. 8d.— WILLIAM GEORGE SEABROOK, age 18, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fair, round face, thick lips, hair light brown, eyes grey; dress, light jacket suit, grey cap, patent shoes, wearing signet and snake gold l ings. A native of Edmonton. Warrant issued. 7.— W Division.— For stealing, 3rd inst., a gent's " Bradbury " motor cycle, index number BY 1202, number 39572, Brooks' saddle, foot rests, rubber pedals, two- speed free engine, belt- driven, plated rims, black centre, " H & B " lamp, serpent horn, enamelled black.— GEORGE DESMOND, alias HERBERT PARKER, Office No. 1527- 05, age 27, height 5 ft. 3£ ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar over right eyebrow and back right hand, T and two dots back left forearm. A motor fitter; native of Westminster. Sentenced as HERBERT LEONARD PARKER at Northampton Sessions, 2nd January, 1908, to 15 months' hard labour and three years' police supervision for cycle stealing. Warrant issued. 8. — X Division.— For obtaining a situation by a false character.— WILLIAM PEFFER, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes grey; dress, blue serge suit, bow- ler hat. A barman. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. A BERDEENSHIRE. 9.— Aberdeen ( City).— For failing to sur- render to their bail, on charge of fraud between the 3rd and 9th May, 1912.— GEORGE HEWES, Office No. S. 139524, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion swarthy, hair black ( long), eyes grey, clean shaven, slender build; and ALICE JONES or HEWES ( wife of the above), age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair fair, stout build, small mole side of nose, little finger left hand crooked. Thev caused advertisements to be inserted in the local newspapers, of bicycles, furs, and gramophones to be sold at great sacrifice, and in this way disposed of about 30 worthless bi- cycles and absconded, but in due course were arres- ted at Blackpool, and committed to take their trial on the 13th inst., bail being allowed. May be found residing with their two children, the elder of whom is named George Hewes, age 14 years. They may also have with them a woman named Maud Flory, age about 26, tall and dark. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom Information to the Chief Constable, Aberdeen. ANTRIM. 10 .— Belly menu. — For fraudulently converting to his own use two sums of money, amounting to £ 539, between 16th December, 1911, and 19th March, 1912.— HUGH BOAL, age about 32, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, hard felt hat. Supposed to have absconded about 14th July. Fond of horse- racing and cards ; northern accent. A solicitor; native of Ballymena. WTarrant issued. BERKSHIRE. 11 — Faringdon ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Faringdon Union.— JAMES EDWIN BLIGHT, age 48, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion dark, hair turning grey ( going bald), eyes grey, first finger left hand short, small hole inside nose, walks badly; dress, navy blue coat, black trousers, bowler hat. Carried a small cloth bag. Native of Cornwall. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Maunders, Faringdon. 12.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences ( worthless cheque)— GILBERT L. HANKEY, age about 45, height 5 ft, 11 ins., good build, clean shaven thick lips, appearance of a heavy drinker, hair dark brown; dress, grey suit, bowler hat, but generally wears a cap. Ac- companied by his wife ( not wanted), age 50, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue. Both addicted to heavy drinking. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor- CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 13.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing £ 4 from a dwelling house, 3rd inst.— ARTHUR BULLEN, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fair, moustache ( slight) fair; dress, grey tweed jacket, black trousers, tweed cap. Previously con- victed at Norwich and Hull. Supposed a native of Colchester. May be found at common lodging houses. 14.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing 2nd inst., 1 pair of plated nut- crackers; 2 plated fish knives and forks; 6 do. tea- spoons, twisted handles, " E" engraved on back; 1 butter knife, mother- o'- pearl handle; 1 hair brush, black back, " E" thereon; 2 plated salt spoons.— HERBERT WILLSTON, age 19 to 22, height 5 ft. 9 ins., slight build, clean shaven, hair ginger, eyes blue; dress, blue serge suit, dark grey cap. CHESHIRE. 15.— Birkenhead ( County).— For deserting his family.— CHARLES WRIGHT, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., good build, complexion fair, hair brown, slight light moustache, eyes blue, scar left eye, bad teeth; dress, navy blue suit, dark green cap. A domestic ser- vant. Has been convicted at Manchester and Macclesfield. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Macclesfield. DURHAM. 17.— Durham ( County).— For stealing at Old Quarrington training stables, 20th ult., a light fawn rainproof coat, red check lining, two pockets outside, 1 large and 1 small do. inside, bone but- tons, maker's name on hanger,' letters worked in green; 1 pair dark kid gloves.— PATRICK O'BOYLE, age 20 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fair, very prominent nose, good teeth, hair light, eyes blue, stoops slightly; dress, dark grey suit, light cap.. A stableman. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Police Office, Durham. ESSEX. 18.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining 6.1. by false pretences, 30th ult.— GRAVE HEDGES, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, hair dark; dress, dark green costume, leather belt, biscuit> coloured straw hat, turned up all round, bunch of straw at side, trimmed dark ribbon, wearing a badge of coloured ribbon on breast. Represents she is engaging lodgings for lodgers in connection with a paper called Forget- me- not, and endeavours to obtain money by getting people to take shares in this paper. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. 19— Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing a gold and silk fob, spade guinea, etc., 27th ult. ( recovered). See Case 56, lst par., 9th inst.— PERCY GIGGS, alias HARRY BROWN, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion sunburnt, clean shaven, hair dark, eyes dark brown; dress, greenish grey jacket, dark cloth trousers and vest, cap, white rubber shoes blacked over. A hawker; native of Forest Gate. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Southend- on- Sea. 20.— Witham ( County).— For obtaining 2s. by false pretences, at Tolleshunt Major, 15th ult.— WILLIAM STUBBINGS, alias BRAYBRICK and FREDERICK BRAYBROOK, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, long face, hair brown, walks with a stoop; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, naval trousers. A labourer; native of Maldon, Essex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coppin, Witham. 45, height 5 ft. 6 or S ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, moustache brown ( heavy); dress, dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, patched at knees. Works at farm- houses pea- picking and tur- nip- hoeing. Yorkshire accent. Absconded 18th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thomas, Hereford. 2^.- Hereford ( C'i7y)- For obtaining £ 5 10s. by a worthless cheque, 6th inst.— THOMAS T1LLEY, alias FORD, TILLEY, and THOMAS F. TIL- LEY, age 38, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., red face, moustache fair, rather large teeth; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, grey breeches, black leggings, brown cap, " Norton & Son, Broad Street, Hereford," inside crown. He goes to a bank and states he has an account, with one of their branches, generally Bristol,- and that he has left home without his cheque book, then buys a cheque over the counter, this he fills in and goes to a shop and purchases some articles ancl tenders the cheque in payment, draws the balance and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. HER TFORDSHIRE. 26.- <? t. Albans ( Citv\ - JAMES LAWRENCE, Office No. 240- 09, Tabular Form. 9th inst. Not now wanted. He has reported. KENT. 27.— Cranbrook ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., at Goudhurst, a New Standard Quadrant bicycle, No. 146973, 28 in. frame, Stoll tyres, star square cranks, rubber pedals, free wheel, Brooks' saddle, gas lamp, upturned handlebars, nickel- plated carrier, tool bag— HENRY RUS- SELL, aje 22, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey; extensively tattooed, has crucifixion on chest. REES WILLIAMS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar left wrist. Both men wore khaki uniform, and are deserters from the South Wales Borderers. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Fowle, Cranbrook. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 21.— Neath ( County).— For an offence under the Punishment of Incest Act, 1908, at Taibach, 27th ult.— EDWARD WAKEFIELD, age 42. height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion ruddy, hair dark, moustache ( heavy) dark. Absconded 28th ult. Has in his possession his National Insurance card, which must be deposited at a Labour Exchange before obtaining employment. A native of Chel tenham. Warrant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— Dursley ( County).— For embezzling £ 5 lis.— JAMES ALFRED KEEFE, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey, hushy eyebrows, large Roman nose, protruding ears; dress, grey suit, straw hat, brown band, light lace- up boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Perkins, Dursley. 23.— Stroud I County).— For uttering a forged money order. COATES, alias STRONG, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, high cheek bones, hair light, dark brown moustache, eyes sunken, carries head slightly for- ward ; dress, light grey suit, bowler hat. Carries a small wooden sample case. He stayed at an hotel and induced the book- keeper to cash a money order, which had been fraudently altered from Is. 3d. to £ 4 Is. 3d. Usually stays at good- class hotels. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24— Hereford '( County).— For manslau<* ht< at Wellington, 17th ult.— TOM GRIFFITHS, age trimmed faded pink flowers and green leaves, or may be wearing a dark blue plain cloth dress with white blouse, gold eyeglasses, thick veil. Stated she was a nurse at the Royal Infirmary, Manches- ter. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool 34.— St. Helens ( Borough).- For stealing, 3rd inst., a green suit of clothes; 1 pair boots, size 9; 1 grey mackintosh with cape; 1 white cot- ton and silk muffler, 1 red, white and blue striped cotton shirt; 1 pair of braces.— CHARLES DUD- LEY, age 28, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sal- low, clean shaven, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, light green jacket, blue serge trousers, brown cap, and the stolen boots. A native of Stockport. Previously convicted at Liverpool, Stockport, etc. 35.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing 5s. ( by trick), 3rd inst.— ANNIE JACKSON, age about 29, height 5 ft. 4 ins., stout build, round face, complexion and hair fair; dress, heavy black costume, grey shawl, pink crinoline hat with black velvet bow, low button shoes, patent toe- caps, left shoe cut at toe, abscess below larynx, red mark bridge of nose. LEICES TERSHIRE. 36.— Melton Mowbray ( County).— For stealing, 4th inst., at Garthorpe, a bicycle, free wheel, 26- in. frame, 28- in. wheels, old tyre back wheel, new tyre and inner tube front wheel, black enamelled, plated parts gone rusty, crimped handle bars, right tip missing, front lever brake.— JOHN DRAYCOTT, age about 30, height oft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, round shoul- ders, front teeth decayed, figure of woman right forearm; dress, brown check cloth suit, cap, heavy nailed boots. LANCASHIRE. 28.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to report.— GEORGE HENRY PADMORE, Office No. 2830- 97, age 46, height 5 ft. 4J ins., complexion sallow, hair brown ( turning grey, bald top), eyes blue, two dots back right hand, lost part lst left finger. Sentenced at Wolverhampton Sessions, 10th April, 1908, to five years' penal servitude for house- breaking. Liberated 16th May, 1912, on second licence, which expires 5th November, 1913. Prison Reg. Accompanied by- George Wroe ( not wanted); a canvasser and photo- grapher, age 21 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion dark, full face with red pimples, hair black, eyes brown; dress, grey or blue serge suit, soft hat. Warrant issued. Bl.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to notify change of residence.— WILLIAM HENRY TAYLOR, Office No. 563- 00, age 47, height 5 ft. lOf ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey, scar back left thumb. Native of Barrow- in- Fur ness. Sentenced Bolton Borough Sessions, 7th April, 1910, to 3, 3, 3, and 3 years' penal servi- tude ( concurrent) for housebreaking and larceny ( 4 cases). Licence expires 30th April, 1913. ( 24 days as appellant), k. 162. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 32.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing ( servant) £ 28 Is. 3d., 1 cheque for £ 9 15s., and postal- orders for £ 5 9s. 4d.— FREDERICK CHESSWORTH, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion pale, hair brown, near sighted, wears steel- rimmed spectacles; dress, dark suit, green cap, laced boots ( all new). Warrant issued. 33.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences.— LENA THORNTON, alias LOUIE LORRAINE, age 26 height 5 ft. 7 ins., good build, complexion fair high cheek bones, hair dark, eyes brown; dress black and white print dress, fawn satin straw hat. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 37.— Newport ( Borough\— For stealing from his lodgings, 10th inst., a lady's 18- ct. gold key- less English lever watch, white dial, sunk in centre black steel hands, engraved back; 1 lady's 15- ct. gold watch guard, fancy beaded pattern.— THO- MAS BOOTH, age 24 to 26, height 5 ft.. 3 to 5 s., hair dark brown, clean shaven, nose slightly turned up; dress, dark suit, light gaiters, dark cap and overcoat, strap at back and sleeves. Ab- sconded 10th inst. Warrant issued. 38 — Newport ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 7th inst.— THOMAS TILLEY, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion florid, hair brown, mous- tache fair, large teeth in front; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, grey breeches, black leggings, brown cap. A farm bailiff or labourer. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Newport. NO TTINGHA MS HIRE. 39 — Nottingham ( City).- For housebreaking, 28th ult., and stealing wearing apparel, which in- cluded a dark green check overcoat ( which he may be wearing), bone buttons, 2 flap pockets out- side, ticket pocket inside, black lining; also for failing to notify change of r esidence.— FRED- ERICK JOHNSON, alias FARRELL and WOOD WARD, Office No. 1492- 05, age 27, height 5 ft. 5f ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar right side of head, small mole back left side of neck, woman's head tattooed inside left forearm, heart and 3 dots outside left forearm. May be found in common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Notting- ham. STAFFORDSHIRE. 40.— Leek ( County).— For rape at Bucknall, 29th ult,— HERBERT HENRY JOHNSON, alias HERBERT THOMPSON, age 34, height 5 ft. 3^ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar on nose and right cheek, tip of third finger left hand missing. Native of Fenton, Staff . Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Hicklin, Leek. 41.— Newcastle ( County).— For intimidation at Talke, 2nd May last.— FRANK SKELLERN, alias SKELLON, age 27, height 5 ft. 8£ ins., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaven; dress, blue or brown suit, brown boots, light cap. Sup- posed native of Wigan, Lanes. The man then in the name of Humphreys and Young, advertised for clerks, managers and canvassers for the dentistry business. All the persons who applied for the posts were told they would be appointed, and he received from each XI as a security. They absconded 30th ult., and upon the return of the tenant of the house, the above mentioned goods were found to have been stolen.
