All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Evury announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in foroe against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be, 7, Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 9. 10 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, Ij Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" a? » only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequei i issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 13.— Bristol ( City).— For negotiating a seaman's advance note, and wilfully deserting his ship.— GEORGE WEARE, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., hair light brown, slight moustache light; dress, dark suit and cap. He was paid off the S. S. Bescerisis at Liverpool, 1st inst.. and left Axbridge, Somersetshire, on 6th inst., to join another ship. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 15.— Bristol ( City).- For unlawfully converting to his own use, a dark chestnut horse, age 6, 15 hands 2 ins., hog mane, short tail, hind fetlocks white in good condition.— JOHN SAMUEL, alias EVANS, MAURICE GOULD, and JACKSON, age 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., hair sandy, clean shaven, gaping expression ; dress, blue suit. A native of Bristol. Associates with horse dealers and sometimes employed in Racing Stables. He opens a banking account, obtains a cheque book, withdraws the money except about £ 2; answers advertisement for horses, carriages, etc. for sale, forwards cheque for a small amount which is met, and a post dated cheque for the balance, which is dishonoured. After obtaining the goods he calls at the Post Office and requests that his letters be forwarded to another address or to be returned to senders. Was discharged at Croydon Police Court, 3rd February last, for larceny and unlawful pos- session of a registered letter. He has obtained horses from various parts of the country. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 16.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Portsmouth Borough Quarter Sessions, 11th ult., on charges of larceny. — GEORGE SPICER, Office No. 198- 05, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes brown, scar on forehead, mole on neck, right little finger deformed, of smart appearance. Warrant issued. 17.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing an air rifle.— EDWARD HAYTER, age 27, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, cap. A labourer. Has served as a Stoker in H. M. Navy. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. KENT. 18.— Folkestone ( Borough). — For obtaining £ 5 17s. 3d. by worthless cheques on the London, County and Westminster Bank, Lombard Street, E. C.— GEORGE W. CLIVE, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair light, clean shaven, of good address; dress, green rainproof coat, A. H. & Co. rainproof with Dolphin on tab inside, blue serge suit, straw hat, shoes, had with him a brown suit case and port- manteau, also a tennis racquet. He wrote on paper headed with a firm of Stock Brokers in London, engaging a room at a first- class hotel, arrived 3rd inst., obtained £ 5 change for a cheque, No. A/ W. B. 75187, on 6th inst., paid his account with a cheque No. A/ W- B- 75189, and received balance of 17s. 3d. Both since returned marked " no ac- count." Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 19.— Manchester \( City).— For stealing ( servant) 30th ult., a number of ladies' costumes. — WILLIAM ROWLANDS, age 24 or 25 ( looks younger^, hMght 5 ft'. 7 ins., hair light sandy, elean shaven, Welsh accent. Is said to have been convicted at Liverpool in August, 1910. Usually accompanied by a woman. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 20.— Bootle ( Borough).— For embezzling 18s. 10d., 11th inst.— THOMAS JONES, age 37, height 5 ft. 7J ins., complexion sallow, hair and mous- tache dark brown, red spot left side of nose, slightly flat feet; dress, dark suit, dark tweed cap with cane adjuster inside. A cowman, is well- known to dairymen in the Fazakerly district, Liverpool. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. labourer; was employed on sewerage works at Sut- ton on- Sea. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 22.— Peterborough ( Liberty of)— For deserting his wife and children.— ABRAHAM BOB LONG, age 42, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache light, eyes hazel, large birth mark left elbow joint, large scar left hip, scar back of head. A native of Werrington. Has served in the Suffolk Regiment. May be found on public works. Warrant issued. 23.— Peterborough ( Liberty of)— For stealing a purse and 17s., from his lodgings at Walton, 5th inst.— HAROLD BAILEY, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion ruddy, hair ( slightly curly) light brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, indentation bridge of nose; dress, light grey suit, with dark grey stripes, gauntlet cuffs to jacket, green knitted tie, large grey motor cap, lace boots; of military appearance. SHROPSHIRE. 24.— Wellington ( County).— For failing to appear on summons, 6th inst., for stealing scrap brass.— GEORGE RUSHTON, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue; dress, new dark suit, black hard hat. A native of St. Georges, Wellington. Has been employed as a baker and butcher. Absconded 3rd inst. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. SUSSEX ( East). 25.— Hailsham ( County)— For failing to surrender to his bail, 15th inst., for obtaining money orders by false pretences, at Polegate, 21st and 22nd March last.— WILLIAM ROBINSON, age 18 to 20, good build, height 5 ft. 11 ins., com- plexion pale, hair dark, clean shaven, eyes blue; dress, navy blue serge suit, light blue tie, grey cap, light lace boots. He advertised motor cycle accessories in the Motor Cycle and Model Engineer, in name of R. Moore, Pevensey Road, Polegate, but failed to supply the goods; also gave address Gros- venor Park Road, Walthamstow. Is in possession of a motor driver's licence, granted by the Essex County Council. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Willard, Hailsham. 2o.— Eastbourne ( Borough)— For obtaining £ 4 4s. Od. by false pretences, 24th ult.— KARL WESTERHOLM, age about 21. height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., hair light brown; dress, light tweed suit, light green alpine hat, light brown boots with fawn colour tops. He calls upon Swedish medical men or lady gymnasts, states that his mother and sister are visiting the Town, and will require the ser- vices of a gymnast, that he is in money difficulties on account of being unable to cash a Swedish cheque. Had in his possession a bicycle, black enamelled frame, " Windsor" transfer thereon. Warrant issued. 27.— Eastbourne ( borough).— For stealing a brown leather purse containing £ 4 lis. A kitchen porter. Bates, Leicester," plated handle bars upturned, black grips, rubber pedals, rim brakes, stamped " Hercules," Imperial 3- eoil spring saddle, plated lamp, L. 5397 on seat tube, nearly new.— JOHN CRAWFORD, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, hair ( thin on top) and moustache light, rather stubby, stoops slightly; dress, blue jacket and vest, • dark striped trousers, dark cap, brown shoes. A 29.— Malmesbury ( County).— For obtain- ing a situation as butler by false character at Pinkney, Sherston, 29th March last— FRED- ERICK DUNCAN, alias JOHN HUMPHRIES and SMITH, age 35, height 5 ft. 10£ ins., com- plexion sallow, hair dark; dress, navy blue serge suit, bowler hat, mauve tie, black shoes. Carried a brown gladstone bag. Formerly of Udimore, Sussex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pinnell, Malmesbury. WORCESTERSHIRE. 30.— Halesowen ( County).— For obtaining food by false pretences, 22nd ult.— WILLIAM SPILSBURY, alias JOSEPH ROBINSON, ROBERTSON, SAMUEL TAYLOR, JOHN and JAMES ROBERTSON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., good build, red face and nose, hair and moustache sandy or auburn, eyes ( deeply sunken) light grey, Scotch accent; dress, dark blue jacket and vest, slop underneath, black and white check trousers, black hard hat, lace boots. A butcher. Represented that he was employed by a large timber merchant, and would require stabling. Is well- known at Oldbury, Ludlow, Wednesbury, and in North Staffordshire. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rudnick, Halesowen. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 31.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing 84 rail, way wagon brasses, 19th March last.— JOHN ADAMS, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, cut scar on chin, scar left cheek. A hawker. Warrant issued. 32.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing a cash box and £ 7, 18th ult.— JOHN E. HALL, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, Buffalo Bill, etc. tattooed left arm, woman, etc. right do.; dress, black coat, vest, dark trousers, cord cap. Supposed to have served in the Navy as stoker on H. M. S. " Drake." A seaman, native of Crook, near Durham. Warrant issued. 33.— Sheffield ( City).— For obtaining credit, £ 1 8s. Od. by false pretences, 22nd January 1912 WALTER SHIPLEY, age 29, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion pale, hair light, eyes blue. Tattooed both arms; dress, black coat and vest, cord trousers, blucher boots, cap and muffler. Is a reservist of the Leicestershire Regiment. A labourer. Warrant issued. 34.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing £ 22 2s. 0£ d. and a cheque for £ 2 16s. 6d., 30th January last.^ 1. A. WALKER, age 50, height 5 ft. 4 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaven; dress, blue melton overcoat, velvet collar, black morning coat, trimmed with braid, fancy striped trousers, with raised seams, bowler hat, tie pin bearing figure of a dog. Warrant issued. 35.— Sheffield ( City)— For embezzling 12s. on 6th March last.— JOHN SMITH, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark; dress old light suit and cap. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 3T— Barnsley ( Borough).— Committed for trial at West Riding Quarter Sessions, 5th July next for larceny ( lodgings) and false pretences.— JAMES HANSON, alias SINGLETON and ROB- INSON, S. 144633, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue, clean shaved ; scar corner left eye, anchor and star, female snake charmer right forearm, " Cissie," clasped hands, etc. tattooed left forearm. Native of Hali- fax.— THOMAS SAMUEL GRIFFITHS, alias HOWARTH and FRAZER, age 24, height 5 ft. 2A ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue. Native of Preston. They obtained board and lodgings by falsely representing that they were employees of Messrs. Rowntree, York, and absconded, stealing an umbrella.
