All communications for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TDB EDITOR OF TH » POLIC « GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 3. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be, 7, Announcements concerning stolen property must be. guaranteed by an officer of not lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted} will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should bt prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within th « United Kingdom. Native of Liverpool. Warrant issued. 8.— Crewe { County)-—¥ or housebreaking, 29th ult., and stealing a gold- coloured neck- chain, clasp broken, fastened with safety pin, metal locket attached; 1 silver Waltham lever watch, " A. T. WALLEY" engraved inside case: 1 lady's long metal chain, gold coloured, do. seal attached; 1 lady's silver geneva watch, chased back, long gold chain, very fine links, attached; 1 small gold brooch, oval, raised front; 1 gold curb bangle, padlock attached ( child's).— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins.; wearing dark overcoat and hard felt hat; of smart appearance. A native of Gloucester. Has been previously con- victed, also served 3 years in the Stoke Farm Reformatory, was empfoyed as a page boy at a golf club, which situation he obtained through the Police Court Misionary at Liverpool. ESSEX. 10.— Epping ( County).— For failing to report — FRANK HOWARD, alias GEORGE WIL- LIAMS, Office No. 1595- 08, age 27, height 5 ft. 61 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar under bottom lip, dots front right forearm, scar left forearm. A fireman; native of Bristol. Sentenced at Oxon Quarter Sessions, 5th January. 1909, to 9 months' hard labour, and 3 years' police supervision for burglarv. Supervision expires 26th August, 1912. Terry, Epping. 11.— Romford ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings 22nd ult., a light cap; 1 dark tweed mixture suit; 1 dark motor coat, with light stripes, strap at back.— HAROLD PHILLIPS, age 19, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown; wearing the stolen blothing. Is an absentee from the lst West Surrey Regi- ment, Warley. Left his uniform clothing behind. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones. Romford. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 12.— Treharris { County). — For stealing furniture ( recovered) MORGAN EVANS, age 24 to 26, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fair. ' hair light, clean shaven, eyes grey, scar on one eyebrow small piece of lower eyelid missing, centre of nose flat, end inclined to turn upwards ; dress, dark coat and vest, bluish trousers with bell bottoms. A colliery labourer, also a pugilist. Supposed accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age 45, height about 5 ft. 2 ins., hair dark, eyes blue, front upper teth missing; dress, brown mackintosh coat, black skirt, green blouse, black velvet hat; had with her a boy and two girls, ages 7, 6, and 4 years respectively. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gill, Treharris. 13 — Cardiff ( City).— For embezzling £ 1 2s. — SAMUEL G. CROSS, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, walks badly, rather splay feet: dress, dark overcoat, navy blue serge suit, bowler liat. ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 by a forged cheque dated 23rd January, 1912, drawn on Messrs. Coutts & Co., Bankers, London, 25th ult.— BERTIE WILSON, age 33 to 35, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion and eyes dark, hair dark brown, London accent, of good address and smart appearance; dress, brown tweed suit, grey cap, fancy boots with brown tops. On 25th ult., he called at the residence of a J. P., represented that he was intimate with his son; after leaving it was ascertained that two blank cheques had been abstracted from the J. P.' s cheque book, one No. H- 31/ 05255 was filled in January 23rd, 1912, pay to Bertie Wilson, Esq., or order the sum of twenty pounds sterling, £ 20 0s. 0d., signed Erskine Pollock, crossed & Co., and endorsed Bertie Wilson, by which he obtained the above amount, the cheque was returned marked " forged signature." Wil- son booked to London on 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. 15 .— Bristol ( City).—¥ or stealing £ 4 4s., 12th ult.— A. R. BURNEY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion pale, hair fair, moustache inclined to be sandy, waxed at ends : dress, dark three- quarter overcoat, believed velvet collar, dark suit, greenish brown felt hat, round pattern; of good address. Carried a brown leather letter case. Represents he is of A. R. Burney's International Introductory Agency, 87, Gray's Inn Road, Hol- born, W. C., and purports to introduce patients to private nursing homes. Is identical with MAN, Case No. 29, 26th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be atrested out of the United Kingdom. 16.— Bristol ( City).— For robbery with violence — J. BROWNE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair and heavy mous- tache dark, twisted ends; dress, dark suit and cap; appearance of a South American seaman. He entered a moneylender's office 24th ult., demanded the loan of £ 25, produced a heavy revolver with long barrel and threatened the moneylender and his assistants if the amount was not immediately kanded to him; £ 15 was given him, he then de- manded a receipt form, signed same and left the premises. The following morning a letter posted at Bristol was received from Browne stating he would refund the money when he arrived home in Florida, U. S. A. Warrant issued. Wot to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 17.— Bristol ( City).— For embezzling £ 8, 24th ult.— DENNIS PUGH, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 ins., rather slight build, complexion pale, hair dark brown, may have a slight black moustache, slightly bow legged; dress, dark suit, light oao; may be wearing light breeches and leggings. A butcher. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. ISLE OF ELY. 18.— Wisbech ( County).— F « r bigamy— JOHN ROBERT SANDERSON, alias THOMAS BUST, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, grave- stone tattooed on one arm, " Isle of Edith Mann " • a other, Ada between thumb and finger, black spot bridge of nose. A labourer; native of old Basford, Notte. Has served in the Army. May seek em- ployment with dairymen or as a horseman. Photo- graph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. 1S>.— Wisbech ( County).— For deserting his wife and family.— WILLIAM COOMBES, age 32, keaght 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion and hair dark, © yes brown. A bricklayer; native of Woolwich. Faually works with trowel in left hand. May be a « eompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age about 36, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( large) blue, and a girl, age about 12 years. For indecent assault.— GEORGE BROWN, age 28, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven; dreee, dark overcoat, brown suit, tweed cap. An iron turner; native of Barrow- in- Furness. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Barrow- in- Furness. 21.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 4 le. 0d., 27th November, 1911-^ JAMES VIN- CENT MAWDSLEY, age 43, height 5 ft 7 or 8 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, reddish cheeks, round face, hair and moustache dark brown, two front upper teeth missing, well educated, of smart appearance; dress, bine serge suit, bowler hat, strong lace boots, wore a gold albert with masonic pendant attached. A native of Whiston, near P res cot. Has been employed as a colliery clerk, agent for the Wigan Coal and Iron Company, and prior to 5 years ago he was the licensee of a public house. Is said to have gone abroad, may seek similar employment to above or as a barman. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. SHROPSHIRE. 22.— Oswestry ( County).— For obtaining 9s. 4Jd. by false pretences, 16th ult.— JOSEPH EDGE, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, nose broken, slight scar upper lip; dress, dark brown striped overcoat, with strap on cuffs and at back, blue serge suit, black tie, green shirt, wears a gold masonic ring. A contractor's foreman ( tar macadam paving); native of Walkden, nr. Bolton. Absconded 16th ult., accompanied by a woman, age about 24, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., complexion fair, hair light; dress, heliotrope costume, black hat, trimmed red roses, and a child, age 2 or 3 years. Last heard of at Cardiff, 22nd ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hamlet, Oswestry. 23 - Wellington ( County). HARRY HILL, alius GEORGE HILL, Case No. 45, 18th June, 1909. Warrant cancelled. A native of Lewes.— JAMES FROST, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion very fresh, hair brown, clean shaven; dress, green striped suit, dark tweed cap. Supposed a native of Polegate. Both may be found with roundabout proprietors or showmen. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. WILTSHIRE. 27.— Chippenham ( County).— For shop- breaking, 24th ult. ( concerned wjth another man in custody).— GEORGE KING, alias ARTHUR KING, age about 25, height 5ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion pale, high cheek- bones, hair inclined to ginger, clean shaven, slight eczema on hands, turns his right foot inwards; dress, pepper and salt colour jacket and vest, brown trousers with dark red stripes, fancy Oxford shirt, may have " Billett, Swindon," thereon, light cap, new light lace boots, supposed a native of London. He vis discharged from the Workhouse Infirmary at Bm': o', m 3rd ult. Usually stays at common lodging houses, low beer houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Moore, Chippenham. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 28.— Scarborough ( Borough).— For ob- taining money by false pretences, licence holder— JOHN GARWOOD, alias JOHN BUTTLE, Office No. 3402- 00, age 52, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grev), eyes brown, lobe right ear missing; dress, dark grey overcoat, light brown breeches and brown leggings, hard felt hat or grey cap, dark tie. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 29 .— Barnsley ( County) •— For sacrilege and stealing two brass candlesticks and four brass vases, at Falkirk.— GEORGE GOACHER, alias GEO. EDWARD GOACHER, Office No. 1814- 05, age 38, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey, small scar over right eye; dress, dark jacket and vest, corduroy trousers. Na- ve. of Leicester. Also his wife, GOACHER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, Roman nose; dress, black skirt, blouse, jacket and hat. Accompanied by five child- ren, ages from 13 years to 5 months. Warrant issued. Information to Superintendent Mc. Donald, County Police, Barnsley. SC.— Doncaster ( County). — For embezzling £ 11 12s. 5d., at Mexboro', 25th December, 1911.— ROBERT DUGGAN, age about 27, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., rather stout build, complexion fresh, blotchy, full face; dress, dark grey suit, chestnut colour overcoat, gauntlet cuffs, grey cap. A native of Manchester. May seek employment with travel- ling showmen, or as a lecturer at Picture Halls. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hickes, County Police, Doncaster. 31 .— Barnsley ( Borough).- For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences 20th and 21st ult. — GEORGE", age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 Ins., slight build, complexion very pale, hair brown, clean shaven; dress, grey jacket and vest, black trousers, black tie with heliotrope stripes, bowler hat, lace boots, fawn colour over- coat ; carried a small brown leather handbag. Sup- posed a native of Wednesbury, Staffs. Stated he was a member of the " Silver King" company, which he was rejoining at Barnsley, after an ill- ness of 3 months. Warrant issued. 32.— Barnsley ( Borough).— For abandoning his child 11th October, 1911.— TOM DOVE, alias DOVEY, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion very pale, hair black, clean shaven, eyes brown, blue coal mark under one eye, long scar on one arm ; dress, navy blue rough serge suit, red and white muffler, black and white check cap, lace boots. Has been convicted at Cardiff, Pontypridd, Northleach, Monmouth, Usk, Ystrad, Alton, Oxford, and Pontypool. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycouibe. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). Si.— Barnsley ( Borough).— Sentenced lltli ult., to 12 months' hard labour, for loitering with intent to commit a felony.— ARTHUR DUN- HAM, Office No. 2086- 11, age 19, height 5 ft. 5} ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes brown, 4 dots back right forearm, 185 back left forearm, 1st and 2nd fingers deformed left hand. A joiner; native of Leeds. Seven previous convic- tions at Leeds City Quarter Sessions, and Petty Sessions, for larceny and warehouse breaking, from 1904 to 1911. 35.— Barnsley ( Borough).— Committal to next West Riding Quarter Sessions at Wakofield for sentence, as an incorrigible rogue. — JOHN McSWEENEY, alias MURPHY, McHARVEY, and " THE WESTMINSTER ORPHAN," Office No. S. 17252, age 33, height 5 ft. 1J ins,, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, scar on all fingers and four scars back of left hand. A tramp; native of London.
