Particular* a* to stolen property will be likewise inserted tn one issue, if tuftoient to enable the article in question to b* thereby identified. 4. In all cast* where a reward is offered, th* name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portrait* of Perton* whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6t. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be. guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person i « required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of net lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all person* to be apprehended or of ttolen property bear a number, and as far a* practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in th* Pouci QITNII, mutt, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcomtnt for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 9 All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police, the Photographs and de- scriptive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g.:— Steal- ing £ 1,000 from bank; stealing pair of boots from shop door; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. BERKSHIRE. « •— Windsor ( Borough). — For obtaining a gold watch by false pretences, 12th inst.— TWO WTOMEN, 1st, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 ins., rather stout build, complexion and hair dark, wearing long brown coat, open at back, large black straw hat, worn low on forehead, boots with high heels, wore a double- headed diamond snake ring on left little finger— 2nd, age 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., slight build, complexion and hair very dark; wear- ing long black coat, black felt or beaver hat with cluster of cord in front. Both of smart appear- ance, and are believed to be daughters of SARAH SMITH, alias DAVIS ( in custody).— A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fair, slight moustache light; dress, grey fawn- colour jacket suit, trousers turned up, several rows of stitching around bottoms. Had with him a brown horse and light cart, painted dark, containing car- pets and rugs, covered with a small green cloth. They travel the country in caravans bearing names of FRANK LOVELL, OXFORD. SMITH COATS, and DAVIS, speak of an approaching wedding, that they want to purchase presents, or that they are placing a large amount of work in the district, thereby induces shopkeepers to pur- chase a rug or carpet for three or four times its value. A clerk; native of Longsight, Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Stockport. DERBYSHIRE- 12.— Renlshaw ( County).— For stealing £ 4 10s. at Creswell, 5th inst.— JOSEPH ROBERTS, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion pale, hair ( long) dark, eyes brown; dress, dark greenish suit, light cap and mackintosh. A native of Adwy, near Wrexham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrew, Renishaw, near Chesterfield. DEVONSHIRE. 13.— Exeter ( City).— For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences— EDWARD ANDER- SON DOUGLAS, Office No. 1930- 08, age 35, height 5 ft. ins.. complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, heavy dark moustache, hands hairy on back, mole under left eye, scar outside right forefinger; dress, blue suit with light stripe, bowler hat, double collar and front combined, dark helitrope tie, aimy shirt. A native of Birmingham. Has been a soldier, and is well- known at Tiverton and Barns- taple. May be found at soldiers' and sailors' insti- tutes or low public houses. Warrant issued. ( workhouse clothing)— ERNEST HAWKINS, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 ins., com- plexion, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown; dress, tweed coat and the stolen articles. A la- bourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cowell, Brentwood. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 16.— Pontypridd ( County). - For stealing from his lodgings 18th ult., a purse containing 38s., and other articles— FREDERICK CHAS. WHEATON, alias JONES, MOGG, Office No. 636- 02, age 33, height 5 ft. 4£ ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes blue, bust of female back right forearm, eagle, Union Jack, Stars and Stripes, cannon and spears forearm, scar back right little finger and right forefinger, 2 hearts, dagger, " True Love" in wreath, and " W" ( faint) back left forearm. A labourer; native of Cardiff. Has been convicted at Manchester, Salford, Liver- pool, Birkenhead, Chester, Grimsby, Swansea, Monmouth, etc., Information to Supt. Williams, Pontypridd. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 17.— Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing a copper furnace— HARRY FOSTER, age about 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., oomplexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaven; dress, new dark suit, and over- coat, light cap. A rag and bone gatherer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 18.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining goods and money, by false pretences, 16th ult.— JOHN MEGSON, alias WILLIAM BODDINGTON, LEIGH, PIGGOTT, COTTINGHAM, etc., Office No., 444- 01 ( see Tabular Form, current issue, and Illustrated Circular 72, figure 14), age 58, height 5 ft. 61 ins., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue ( of good address), scar end of right middle finger, on 1st and 2nd fingers of right hand and back left forefinger. A native of Leeds. He engaged rooms in the suburbs, took a shop and warehouse, and had a quantity of letter paper headed " John Megson & Co., Importers of new and Rare Seeds and Bulbs, 26, Campbell Street, City Road, Bristol," making use of the paper to obtain goods and money by advertisements in the Bazaar of the " Exchange and Mart." Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 19.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 10th inst., from the Salvation Army shelter, a dark brown overcoat, rough material, strip at back and on each sleeve, flaps to outside pockets; 1 brown cap, broad crown, size 7; 1 black bowler hat, size 7, 1 pair black Derby pattern boots, toe caps, size 10, cloth lining, rubber pads on heels, 1 dark mixture muffler; 1 pair new woollen gloves with leather lining, and about £ 3— WILLIAM CHALMERS CRESSER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 ins., good build, complexion sallow, full face, hair dark brown, may be growing a moustache, cast in one eye, female tattooed each arm ( one in red, one blue); dress, blue serge jacket, grey knitted vest, with green binding, dark brown trousers, dark green soft felt hat, may be wearing the stolen boots. Stated he was a native of Australia, and had served as a veterinary lieutenant in a colonial regi- ment during the South African War. Appears to be well acquainted with Yorkshire. HAMPSHIRE. 20.— Alton ( County).— For stealing at Bordon, 12th inst., a Special Alder bicycle, No. 13361, 23 in ' dropped frame, enamelled black, red lines, plated rims, rat- trap pedals, Dunlop tyres, North Road upturned handlebars, lever brakes, mud- guards, Mansfield saddle, transfer, " Phillip Bros., Aldershot, Special Alder," on head and back mud- guard, nearly new— ARTHUR JOHN PARKYN, age 19, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, anchor right forearm. Is a deserter from the 142nd Battery Royal Field Artillery; wearing khaki uniform. Arrested, see Case No. 89. 21.— Gosport ( County).— On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 1 Is. fine and costs imposed for wilful damage— WILLIAM WAT- SON, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, black jacket with velvet collar, black vest, white cord trousers, black silk muffler, black cap, nailed boots. Abel, Gosport. 22 — p ortsmouth ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Parish— ARCHIBALD ERNEST WHITE, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, heavy moustache light, eyes bluish grey, tattooed spot right wrist. Dressed as a labourer, but usually wears a naval jersey, with naval flannel underneath. Has been employed as a brewer's cellarman; formerly served as a stoker in the Royal Navy for 12 years. Warrant issued. 23.— p ortsmouth ( Borough).— For deserting his children, leaving them chargeable to the Parish— WILLIAM FREDERICK DOL LERY, age 40, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, . long haggard face, hair and eyes brown, moustache dark. Dressed as a labourer. Tramps the country, and may be found at common lodging houses or casual wards. Has been a seaman. Warrant issued. 24.— Portsmouth { Borough).— For stealing, 3rd inst., a silver Waltham lever watch, No. X42436; a double gold albert, round locket about the size of a shilling, photograph of a boy inside — GEORGE WALES, age 31 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( inclined to wavy) and moustache black, several teeth artificial; dress, black coat and vest, light trousers and cap. A valet; has served in the Army. Believed a native of Newport, Isle of Wight. Warrant issued. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail at the Portsmouth Quarter Sessions 4th inst., charged with obtaining money by false pretences— GEORGE TILLEY, alias SEYMOUR, Office No. SI 16023, age 30, height 5 ft. 4J ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, bridge of nose very prominent; wearing dark three- quarter length overcoat, and hard felt hat. KENT. 26.— Canterbury ( County).— For stealing, 15th inst., at Herne Bay, a Swift bicycle, 26 in. wheels, 24 in. frame, Dunlop back tyre, Palmer front tyre, Bowden brake, upturned handlebars, frame painted green over black, rat- trap pedals, Brookes' saddle, three- cornered tool- bag— JOHN PANTON, age 23, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, Jack and other marks right forearm, of smart appearance; dress, rough dark grey overcoat, grey striped trousers, light cap, with green spots. A labourer or stable- man. Recently employed by the National Tele- phone Company. Has served in the Bedfordshire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heard, County Police, Canterbury. Il.— Tonbridge ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a dressing case; 1 gold brooch and a pair of sleeve links— HEINRICII PAUL HAHN, a German, age 23, height 6 ft 2 ins., com- plexion pale, hair light, wears gold rimmed pince- nez, speaks English with foreign accent; dress, long grey overcoat, dark suit, striped woollen scarf, black bowler hat, brown boots. Had with him a brown leather kit bag, well worn. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Neaves, Tonbridge. 28.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For obtaining 2s. 6d. by false pretences.— ROY, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark; dress, green coat and vest, blue serge trousers, canvas shirt and collar, mauve tie and cap. He called at the residence of a man who had be- friended him, stated to the wife that he had been sent by her husband, and that she was to give him 2s. 6d. for food, etc. Sells music in the streets, and occasionally does mat mending. Warrant issued. 29.-- Maidstone ( Borough).— For obtaining 10s. 6d. by false pretences.— A. R. BURNEY, age 23 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins* moustache dark; wearing dark overcoat, light grey cap ( without peak), yellow boots, carried a silver mounted walking stick. Represents he is of A. R. Burney's, International Introductory Agency, 87, Gray's Inn Road, Holborn, W. C. Purports to introduce gentlemen to persons advertising or letting apart- ments, collects 10s. 6d. fee, gives some local person as reference, produces a printed entry form and gives receipt with printed heading as above. Warrant issued. 30.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For obtaining a clock by false pretences— HERBERT SMITH, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ips., complexion fresh, hair black, limps, of smart appearance; dress, blue serge suit, name of a Tunbridge Wells tradesman inside bowler, hat, sometimes wears goloshes. E." thereon; 1 pair of round plain gold gipsy earrings; 1 flexible gold bracelet, fancy pattern, set with pearls; 1 plain sterling silver cream jug, stamped " C. C. P." lion, shield, and small letter " q"; 1 George III. guinea, gold mounted; 1 foreign made crocodile purse, about 3£ ins. long by 2 ins. deep, flap fastener, one compartment, and slot for cards, contained an early Victorian penny piece in two halves, which can be united, known as a trick penny; 1 gold and enamelled snuff box, square, filigree work on side, 1 gold albert, curb pattern, links graduated from oentre.
