.! I JIH GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 1911. VOL. XXVIII., No. 2920 3. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person r< sponsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be insirted at a cost of 8i. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 65. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on paym'nt. but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THOMPSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., hair and moustache dark; dress, navy blue jacket, dark trousers, bowler hat, or dark cap; both carrying flat open baskets. Stated they were fanners, obtained orders for eggs and in payment received the above amount, each gave a receipt, the first for 18/-, signed F. H. Smith, the second for 10/- signed A. H. Thomp- son. J. WILSON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( clipped short), light, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, green soft felt hat, grey overcoat. Has been in correspondence with house agents, with a view to renting a hunting box, obtained an order to do so, cashed the cheque, and absconded. Gave ad- dress Knightsbridge Green, London. DURHAM. 11 — South Shields ( Borough).— For shopbreaking, 3rd or 4th inst., and stealing a blue serge jacket suit, size 3 or 4; 1 brown tweed over- coat, size 3; 1 pair of American braces " Presi- dent " make; 4 pairs of sock suspenders ( 1 lavender check, 1 sky and black check, 2 black and white check); 15 knitted silk ties; 12 poplin ties, as- sorted ; 2 woollen shirts, blue- grey ground with blue and purple stripe and green and purple stripe; 1 pair tan lace boots, Balmoral fronts, plain soles, size 6; 4 pairs brown woollen gloves, bound with leather ; 1 black bowler hat: 12 silk mufflers, as- sorted, all new — FREDERICK THOMAS HERON, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair ( thin on top) light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, fleshy lump one side of neck, slightly bow- legged, carries his head to one side, is subject to erysipelas during the winter, and may seek admission to workhouse hospitals. A." inscribed on outside case, " November 24th, 1898 " inside back case, makers, W. Batty & Sons, Man- chester; 1 lady's gold fob watch chain, curb pattern a gold jewelled ball set with two diamonds, one sapphire, and one ruby; a gold dog, a gold barrel, a gold pencil case, and a sixpenny piece engraved " N. Is identical with MAN Case No. 5, 29th September last. The horses were advertised for sale in a local paper; Clark answered the advertisement, and consigned the animals to King's Cross. A tramping shoemaker; stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Peterborough. NO TTINGHA MS HIRE. 25.— Mansfield ( Ciunty).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque, No. C/ Q 781217, on the London and Provincial Bank, Ltd., South Totten- ham Branch, signed H. Tattersalls, 11th inst., a grey mare pony, 9 years, 14 hands 3 ins., short mane and tail, slightly sore near shoulder, in poor condition; and a brown mare pony, aged, 14 hands 2 ins., rather short mane, tail docked, white mark down forehead, white fetlock near side, small white spot on one fore foot, in fair condition— — CLARKE, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., drooping shoulders, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, carries his head downwards; dress, dark blue overcoat, dark trousers, hard felt hat. A native of Melbourne, Cambs. Stated he worked on commission for Tattersalls, and resided at Not- tingham. Is identical with F. HUBBARD, Case No. 4, 7th July, and G. BROWN, No. 5, 29th Sep- tember last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rogers, Mansfield. 26.— Nottingham ( City).— For obtaining by false pretences, 8th inst., a Remington typewriter No. 7 pattern, foolscap size, serial number 141357 — J. W. BENSON, age 45 to 50, height 6 ft., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair ( bald on top), and moustache light, eyes ( short- sighted) blue; dress, grey tweed suit, green soft felt hat; may be wearing a dark grey overcoat, and pince- nez or spectacles. Is said to be well educated. He took lodgings lst inst., had cards printed with " Teacher of Shorthand and Typewriting; Repairs by practical man with 20 years' experience in the typewriting business," thereon. On 8th inst he' called upon a firm, and obtained the machine. Is also believed to be wanted at Newcastle- on- Tyne. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Nottingham. The first described entered the shop and pur- chased a silver brooch, and showed four or five sovereigns; he then made reference to gold initial brooch which was in the window, stating he would show the assistant, and both went outside. He held the assistant in conversation, and immediately afterwards two ladies entered the shop, when they saw second described man closing the handbag, and coming from behind the counter. Information to the Chief Constable, Hull, by whom the above reward will be naid to any person or persons giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered.
