No. 45.- J PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. WELLINGTON, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1911. \ l OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which . L' reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. MANGONDI.— About 14th May last, on warrant for carnally knowing Maud Alma Grace Maney, a girl under sixteen years, James Milne, age twenty- six, height about 6ft., miner, labourer, and cordial- maker, native of New Zealand, thin build, slightly stooped, very dark hsir, grey eyes, prominent nose, clean- shaved, upper teeth artificial ; dressed in dark suit and hard hat. He was last heard of at Northern Wairoa, about six weeks ago. AUCKLAND.— 21st ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen's suit ( recovered), value £ 2 10.-., the property of Walter Robinson, 2 Yelverton Terrace, John Hughes, age twi- nty- eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and carter, native of England, stout build, ruddy complexion, full face, clean- shaved ; dressed in dark suit and cap. WAIHI.— 9th instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the adequate maintenance of his illegitimate child, Samuel Dufty. age twenty - seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., miner, half- caste Maori, stout build, dark onmplexion and eyes, dark bushy hair, clean- shaved, very round shoulders ; dress'd in blue- cloth puit and black hard hat. He is sup- posed to have come to Wellington en toute to Sydney. Com- plainant, Ina Runciman. TE AROHA. — 12th ultimo, that a digress warrant for £ 3 15s. may be ex- cuted at his place, Herbert Davison, age thirty- five, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., clerk, native of New Ze » land, sliin bu Id, dark compl xion, hair, and moustache, very talkative disposition ; dressed in dark- tweed suit and cap. He is supposed to have gone to Christchurch. TE KCITI.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gold hunting Elgin watch, a 9 ct. gold single- link fetter- pattern chain, and a gold medal ( not recovereo), value £ 20, the pro- perty of G. B. Holloway, butcher, Aria, a Man ( name un- known), age about twenty- five, higbt about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and cook, native of England, medium build, fair complexion and hair, brown eyes, prominent no e, clean- sbaved, reserved disposition, polite manner, effeminate voice ; dressed in dark trousers and light- coloured coat, veBt, and oap. He may assume the name Holloway. ORMONDVILLE.— Between 1st June and 31st August last, on warrant for breaking and entering the whare of Jospph Logaii Kani, sheep- farmer, Waikapiro, and stealing there- from a rug and a fountain- pen ( recovered), vaiue £ 2 15s, Walter Donghi, age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 4Jin., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, dark- brown hair, brown eyes, clean- shaved, left thumb nail de formed, scar on r ght ankle and left calf; ex Burnham boy; dressed in dark- tweed suit and black hard hat. " Turakina," Rembert Gerrard, flge thiity- two, height 5 ft. 4 in., fireman, native of England, thick set, fair complexion, rolling gait. BLENHEIM. — Between 27th and 30th ultimo, from a bed- room in the Commercial Hotel, the property of ISABELL EDWARDS and MAUD WRATTEN, a ladies' 15ct. gold engagement- ring set with two diamonds and two rubies; a 9ct. gold fine- trace- link- pattern neck- chain; a 9 ct. gold three- link- pattern cable bangle, with heart- shaped padiock attached thereto; a £ 1 note; a sovereign; a half- sovereign; and 10s. in silver: total value, £ 14. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Arthur G. Jardine, or Johnson, age nineteen or twenty, height 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, fair bair, full even features, smart appearance, talkative disposition ; dressed in black- tweed suit, straw hat, and patent- leather shoes. His father is a hotelkeeper at Auckland. DENNISTON.— Between 30th ultimo and 2nd instant, from the hut of ROBERT BARRY, collier, Burnett's Face, a silver Walthairi match, No. 8449973 ; a gold curb- pattern chain; and a gold- mounted red- and green- coloured stone pendant: total value, £ 7. PAEROA.— CHARLES NEWLAND'S property ( except the money) has been recovered, and Lance Watson charged with the offence by Constable Berry, Paeroa police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, pages 507 and 517.) CARTERTON. — WILLIAM DAVIS'S property has been recovered, and Samuel Keats charged with the ofienoe by Constable Dunphy, Masterton police. Offender wa< i locate on information supplied by Constable Carmody, Carterton police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 527.) INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND. BRISBANE ( QUEENSLAND).— Information is requested, at the instance ot Miss Maiy Wilson, Douglas Villa, Montague Street, Sou'. h Br snaue, as to the piesent whereabouts of Herbert Maxwell, who is supposed to have left by the s. s " Levoka" lor Sydney en route to New Zealand, on the 11th February, 1911. He is twtnty- five years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, dark complexion and hair, clean- shaved, i azel- blue eyes, long straight nose; a telegraphist; siigle; a native of South Australia or New Zoalanu ; dressed in blue coat and irousers, whits vest, whiie- straw boater hat with black band, wears silver watch and silver chain. Inquiry wiih a view to compelling him to contribute towards the support of his illegitimate child. ( See Queensland Police Gazette, 1911, page 491.) SYDNEY ( NEW SODTH WALES).— A warrant has been issued by the Children's Court Bench, Sydney, for the arrest of James Sears, charged with child- desertion. He is twenty live years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, medium build, c ean- shavtd ; dressed in dark clothes, and usually wears a seaman's cap; a seafaiing man, and now said to be in New Zealand. Complainant, Eva Lewis, 51 Goulburn Street. ( See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1911, page 406). SYDNEY ( NEW SOUTH WALES).— Re robbery of j^ w^ llery from ttie residence ot Frank Albert: Description of two Men who were seen by Peter Anderson, proprietor of the boat- shed at Elizabeth Bay, hanging about the vicinity for five or six days prior to tne robbery being committed. FIRST: Twenty- five to thirty years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, medium complexion, fair moustache only ; dressed in dark- grey clothes and soft felt bat. Second : Same age and height, rather darker complexion, darkish mouitache ; dressed in dark clothes and soft- felt hat. Both are smart- looking men, and can be identified by Mr. Anderson. SYDNEY ( NEW SOUTH WALES.)— The following cablegram, dated 11th ins ant, has been received from the Inspector- General of Police, Sydnev : " A warrant has been issued here for the arrest of Warwick Wood, charged that at Gilgandra on 11th September last, being a cltrk in the Mutual Life ai d Citizens Assurance Company, Limited, he did receive into his possession a certain valuable security, to wit a cheque for £ 36 5s. 10d., for and in the name and on account of the said company, and did then fraudulently embezzle the said valuable security. Description: Age thirty, height 5 ft. 11 in., canvasser, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, clean- shaved, slovenly gait; generally dre^ ed in brown suit and black hard hat. Probably employed in an insurance office. His father is said to reside at Auckland. Arrest desired. Oflenoe punishable by law." JOHANNESBURG ( TRANSVAAL.)— 26th August last, on war- rant for theft, bv conversion, at Nigel, Heidelberg District, William Thomas Downie, English, age about twenty- one, height about 5 ft. Sin. or 9 in., medium build, dark- brown hair, brown eyes, Roman nose, outstanding ears, small brown moustache ; dressed in dark- blue rough tweed suit. He was employed as a post- office assistant, and his last known address was Laurenco Marques, Delagoa Bay. Arrest urgently required. ( P. 11/ 2358.) GLASGOW ( SCOTLAND).— Inquiry is requested to asoertain the whereabouts of John McCrorie, age forty- six, height about 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., labourer and fireman, native of Ireland, spare build, fresh complexion, brown bair turning grey, fair moustache. He was last heard of at Silverstream, but may have obtained employment on a coastal steamer. If located, he should be requested to contribute towards the adequate maintenance of bis wife and family. Proclaiming Maori Council District as a District in which the Provisions of Section 1^ 6 of the Licensing Amend- ment Act, 1910, shall apply. ( L. S.) ISLINGTON, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS by section forty- six of the Licensing Amendment Act, 1910, it is provided that the Governor may from time to time, on the recommendation of the Maori Council of any district under the Maori Councils Act, 1900, proclaim such district as a district in which the provisions of that section shall apply, and may at any time revoke or vary any such Proclamation : And whereas the Maori Council of the Maori District of Horouta has recommended this district as a district in which the provisions of the said section forty- six should be applied : Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred on me by the said section forty- six, I, John Poynder, Dickson- Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim the following Maori District, viz., THE HOROUTA MAORI DISTRICT, as a district in which the provisions of section forty- six of the Licensing Amendment Act, 1910, shall apply. Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable John Poynder Dickson- Poynder, Baron Islington, Governor and Commander- in- Chief in and over His Majesty's Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this third day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eleven.
