B< particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. *>• In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be dearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offence. t will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 61. ahould be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer ; , of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear • number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged counties. 8. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th* number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as io be ree ived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of t t. paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 11 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland, Yanl. bi Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street l'ost Office. 13. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— On six charges of obtaining money and goods by false pretences 4th inst., by worthless cheques on the London and South- Western Bank ( Chelsea Branch), Nos. B041451 to B041456— TWO MEN ( 1 gave name F. L. MOLLORY, age 20 to 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fair, clean shaved; dress grey jacket suit, no hat; 1 gave name R. M. ARCH- DALE, age 24 to 26, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 ins., thick set, complexion dark, hook nose, of Jewish appear- ance; dress, dark jacket suit, cap). They visited a number of tradesmen, and stated they were uni- versity men, and purchased small articles, tender- ing cheques for £ 5, and received the change. Warrant issued. CARNARVONSHIRE. 11.— Carnarvon ( County).— For demanding money with menaces JOHN WILLIAM JONES, age 25, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache sandy; dress, dark suit, brown overcoat, dark tie, green cap, light lace boots. A native of Cormel. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Griffith, Carnarvon. CHESHIRE. 12.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing a silver match box and 3/ 4 from bis lodgings. E. DOWERS, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair turning grey, bald on top, and moustache brown, scar about 1 in. long near right ear, dress, dark green jacket, brown vest, green trousers, dark tie. light cap, carried light colour mackintosh. HORACE STANLEY HOLMES, age 18, height 5 ft. 2i ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar back right ear, very deaf; dress, dark green suit, grey cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. DEVONSHIRE. 14.— Exeter ( City).— For obtaining a 9 ct double albert, fetter and oval pattern, weight about 1 oz. 10 dwt.; 1 do., solid graduated do, very heavy. H/ GR/- scratched inside swivel; 1 do. double do., fancy twisted wire pattern, double square link9 running through, bv false pretences— — SAN- DERS, alias WIGMORE and WILLIAMS, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., good build, com- plexion, hair and moustache dark; dress, lounge suit, bowler hat. On 12th September last he called on two jewellers, and represented himself as a police officer on leave, and induced them to let him have a chain by paying 10s. down, and promising to pay 10s. a month. L and McNEIL, Office No. 686- 11 ( Illustrated Circular 101, figure 32), see cases 7, 27th ultimo., 31, 8th, 8, 15th, 20 and 44 29th September, and 26 and 28, 20th October last, age 51, height 5 ft. 9} in ., hair brown, eyes blue, nose broken, inclined to le t, blotched face, scars on forehead and neck; dress, grey tweed clothing, grey cap, fawn- coloured mackintosh or rainproof coat. Presented a cheque signed John McNeil drawn on the North Eastern Banking Company, Limited, Ber- wick- on- Tweed, No. 192787, but the Jeweller who suspected his customer, followed him and got back the two watches which had been obtained. For stealing ( servant) 24th ult., £ 6 4s., and a youth's nearly new dark green frieze overcoat, light stripes, gauntlet cuffs, usual pockets with flaps.— ARTHUR JAMES GRINHAM, age 15 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown, rather large head and long neck, consumptive ap- pearance ; dress, brown tweed coat and vest, black trousers, black cap, black tie, Derby boots. LANCASHIRE. 30.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing sheet lead on various dates between May and Septem- ber last— WILLIAM GILBERT SHIMMIN, age 46, height 5 ft. 5 ins., slight build, hair and mous- tache dark ( turning grey), small thin face, eyes blue, false teeth, short sighted, wears pince- nez, holds his head slightly to one side when walking, weak, high- pitched voice. A good pianist; late manager of a picturedrome. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 31.— Manchester ( Citxf).— For stealing £ 17 1st inst.— WILFRED AUSTIN ROWE, age 17, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair very dark; dress, grey striped tweed suit, brown overcoat, grey cap. Information to the Chief Constable, Manches- ter. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 32.— Oundle ( County).— For leaving his wife and two children chargeable to the Union— JOHN HENRY SIMPSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) dark brown, slightly deaf; dress, blue pilot jacket, dark trousers, cap. A labourer; native of Leeds. May be found on public works. Warrant issued. 33.— Oundle ( County). — For stealing 2 lady's gold rings ( 1 set brilliants, 1 set rubies)— FLOR- ENCE TEMPLE, alias FLORRIE WARD, and BLANCHE EMILY WOOD, for description see Case No. 27, 27th ult. NOR THUMBERLAND. 34.— Berwick.- on- Tweed ( Borough).*— For obtaining by false pretences a plain 9 at. gold keyless watch No. 104827 with " 197c/ R/ A/ X " scratched inside case; and a 9 ct. double curb albert, both in a blue velvet case,— HUGH DUNLQP alias HUGH WESTON DERING, HILL, D'ARCY HILL, etc., Office No. 636- 11; for description see Cage No. 15, current issue & Illustrated Circular 101 figure 32. He presented a'cheque on the Berwick Branch of the North Eastern Banking Company, having pre- viously obtained the cheque book from the Manager of the Bank by representing that he had taken a house and would be payiug some cheques or money into the Bank later.
