" VJ OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which 1-' reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. KAITAIA.— About the 18th July last, on warrant for com- mitting incest by having carnal connection with his daughter, Martha Denny. John Patrick Denny, age between forly and forty five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer and station hand, native of Auckland, New Zea- land, medium build, reddish complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean- shaved, large hands, slovenly gait ; generally wears a light Kie- kie hat. ( See next paragraph.) KAITAIA.— About 18th Jnlv last, on warrant for commit- ting i> est by having carnal connection with his daugh'er, Eliz* Denny, John Patrick Denny, age between forty and forty- five, height about 5 ft 10 in., farm labourer and station hand, native of Auckland, New Zealand, medium build, reddish comilexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean- shaved, large hand->, slovenly gait; generally wears a Kie kie bat. AUCKLAND. — 11th July last, on warrant for theft, Thomas Grant, age twenty- seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, medium build, dark comi lexion and hair, brown eyes, small dark moustache; generally dressed in dark- blue suit and hard hat, carries a fawn- coloured rainproof over- coat. Offender received the sum of 7s. 6d. from John James Mullampy on terms requiring him to account for the same to the Clerk of Courts, Auckland, but fraudulently omitted to pay the amount. AUCKLAND. — 9th instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the adequate maintenance of his wife, John Taw Waller, age thirty- four, heiaht 5 ft. 7 in., engineer, slight build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, pro- minent sharp nose, clean- shaved, left ear slightly deaf, one upper tooth gold ; dresses neatly ; wears gold cable or small lii k chain and gold- mounted greenstone p ndant. AUCKLAND.— 7th instant, on warrant for failing to com- ply with a maintenance ordir for the support o< hi » children, Arthur Walter Lewis, age rhirty seven, height 5ft. 54 in., cook and seaman, native of England, medium build, sallow comrlexion, dark brown hair, hazel eves, large nose, name on left wrist, flag between left thumb and ind x finger, long scar on right elhow. AUCKLAND.— 12th ultimo, that she may be compelled to pay arrears (£ 1 18s.) for the maintenance of her child, an inmate of Auckland Industrial School, May Wills, age twenty- one, height 5 ft. 3in., cook or domestic, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair hair, blue eyes; stylishly dressed. She is supposed to have come to Wellington. In- quiry is at the instance of the Education Department. AUCKLAND.— 18th ultimo, on warrant for failing to pro- vide for the future ma ntenance of his unborn illegitimate child, William Howell, age twenty- nine, very short s'ature, busbman, native of Tasmania, dark complexion, bronn hair and eyes, woman tattooed on both arms. He is supposed to have gone to Kotorua. Complainant, Isabel Hearn, Salvation Army Home. NEWTON.— 28th ultimo, on warrant for wife- desertion, Crowther Garside, age fortv, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., porter, native of England, medium build, broad shoulders, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, large broken nose, long features, brown moustache; dres- ed in navy- blue coat, black fancy vest, light- cloured trousers, and cap or straw hat. His photcgrap" is filed in the Inspector's Office, Auck- land. He may endeavour to leave the Dominion. WANGANUI.— 7th July last, on warrant of commitment to'Wanganui Police gaol for fortv- e ght horns in default of paying 17s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Peter Thomp- son, age sixty- seven, height 5 ft. 4 in., gardener and labourer, native of Denmark, medium build, sallow com- plexion, dark bair and beard, blue eyes, thin fare, foreign accent in speech ; dressed in brown suit and black hard hat. PALMERSTON NORTH.— 9th ullimo, on warrant of com- mitment to Palmerston North Po'ice gaol for fourteen days in default of paying £ 2 12s. fine and costs for a breach of the Licensing Act, Joseph or William Joseph Cotter, age thirty- two, height 5 ft. 4 in., bootmaker and labourer, native of New Zealand, thin build, fresh complexion, brown curly- hair, brown eyes, scar on forehead and left hand ; dirty appearance; addicted to drink, and is prohibited under the Licensing Acts ; generally dressed in blark coat, dark- grey vest and trousers, and small blark hard hat. He is sup- posed to have come to Wellington on 12th instant, and may endeavour to leave the Dominion in company with Mrs. Crampton, age about thirty- six, short stout build, dark com- plexion and hair, blue eyes, round face; has two boys age six and three respectively. MASTERTON. — 30th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the adequate maintenance of bis wife and cbild, Thomas Hunn. alias Hulme, alias Young, age thirty, height about 5 ft. Sin. or 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, sharp features, clean- shave^, abscess- mark ^ n one side of throat; generally dressed in dark sac suit and black hard hat. NAPIER.— About 29tb ultimo, from the strong- room of the NAPiERBOROUGH COUNCIL, seventy £ 5 notes, and £ 220 in notes and gold, silver, and copper coin ; total value, £ 57U. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Alfied Hubert Donaldson, age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 7$ in., Cierk, native of New Zealand, medium build, lair complexion and hair, clean- shaved, smart appearance ; generally dressed in light suit and straw hat. The buspect was cliaigid with the offence, but the information was dismissed for want oi sufficient evidence. WANGANUI.— 4th July last, from Taupo Quay, the pro- perty of THOMAS HODSON, baker, Sydney Place, a bay mare, six years old, 15 hands high, noticeable scar over right eye ; and a new pigskin saddle and bridle : total value, £ 10 10s.
