N T OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. • AUCKLAND.— 15th instant, on warrant fcr being absent without leavefrom the s s. " Ruapehu," Sydney Cardoza, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., seaman, native of London, England, medium build, dark complexion, dark- brown hair, brown eyes. AUCKLAND.— 11th instant, on warrant for wife- deser- tion, Thomas Reuben Martin, age twenty- eight, height 5 ft. 6in., butcher, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion and hair, grey eyes, clean- shaved, slightly limp- ing gait. He is supposed to have gone to Dargaville or Te Kuiti. Complainant, Marie Aileen Martin, 82 Welling- ton Street. AUCKLAND.— 11th instant, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for twentv- four hours in default of paying 8s. costs for theft, Daniel O'Connor, age fifty- six, height 5 ft. 4 in., blacksmith's labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, sallow complexion, brown bair turning grey, two fingers missing from left hand, tree on left forearm, woman on right forearm. AUCKLAND.— Harold Vincent Harvey, alias H. V. Hargraves, wanted on warrant for forgery and utiering : Offender is under committal for trial at Hobart for larceny. [ OCT. 18 WELLINGTON.— 22nd December, 1908, that he may be in- duced to pay arrears due for the maintenance of his son in Burnham Industrial School, John Conway Murphy, age fifty- three, height 5 ft. 7Jin., labourer, native of New Zea- land, fresh complexion, sandy hair turning grey, light- blue eyes, " K. WELLINGTON.— About lith March, 1910, on warrant for theft as a servant, George Willis, age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 8 in., clerk, supposed native of New Zealand, medium build, very fair complexion and hair, thin face, clean- shaved ; generally dressed in grey suit and black hard hat or cap. Offender, as Seoretary to the Wellington Hos- pital and Charitable Aid Board, received £ 28 from J. Ena- bling, and failed to account for or pay the same to the Board. He is supposed to have gone to Auckland. Other oharges are pending. WELLINGTON.— 18th July last, on warrant for failing to provide his wife with adequate maintenance, George Hun- ter, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7£ in., cook and bootmaker, na ive of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, rignt little finger bent. WELLINGTON.— 19th December, 1907, that steps may be taken to compel her to support her child in St. Vincent de Paul's Home, Dunedin, Annie Doyle, or Wilson, also known as " Big Annie," age about thirty- two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., servant native of New Zealand, black hair, dark eyes and complexion, good- looking, iuclined to be stout; dresses well. CHBISTCHUECH.— 15th July last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle ( recovered), value £ 10, the property of John Cooper, Joseph Paul Fletcher, age twenty - seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light- brown curly hair, blue eyes, long nose, scar on neck. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 447.) He may seek employment at railway- construction works. CHRISTCHURCH. - 9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the adequate maintenance of his illegitimate child, Alexander Tait, ag* thirty, height about 5 ft., porter and barman, native of Australia, fair Complexion and hair, blue eyes, thin face, clean- shaved, square shoulders, Bmart gait. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 441.) Complainant, Eva Jeffrey, Rodney Street, New Brighton. CHRISTCHURCH. — George Grey, alias G. Findlay, alias Finlay, wanted on warrant for false pretences : It has been ascertained by Detective R. Ward, Christchurch police, that offender is indeniical with George Finlay who is referred to in Police Gazette, 1910, page 166. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, pages 400 and 429.) DUNEDIN.— 5th ultimo, on warrant for being drunk in the open bar of the Oban Hotel, Dunedin, a Man ( name unknown), age between twenty- five and thirty, height about 5 ft. 10in., medium build, fair complexion, long thin features, fair moustache ; dressed in light- coloured suit and overcoat and black hard hat. Offender was apprehended for this offence but escaped from the custody of the arresting constable. GORE — 15th instant, on warrant for keeping liquor for sale in a no license district, William Byron, jun , age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zea- land, medium build, very fresh cjmplexion, fair bair, fairly large pointed nose; dressed in brown suit and gre> cap. He has relatives at Kaiapoi. INVERCARGILL — Thomas Brown Alfred Daniel, wanted on warrant for failing to comply with a mainten- ance order : It 1IHS been ascertained by Detective A. CHRISTCHURCH.— Between 3rd and 6th instant, from the bedroom of JENNIE and DORIS GUTHRIE, boarding- house- Keepers, Manchester Street, a ladies' gold open- face watch, engraved on back case; a repaired gold muff- chain, with a gold- banded heart- shaped stone, a gold nugget embedded in quartz matrix, and a gold camel- shaped pend- ant attached thereto ; a gold band- and- buckle- pattern ring, with flowers engraved thereon ; and a gold band- and- buckle- pattern ring, set with two chip diamonds and a blue gem : total value, £ 9 10s. Description : Age twenty- six, height 6 ft. lin., farmer and teamster, native of Victoria, medium build, short body and long legs, fair complexion, dark brown wavy hair inclined to cuil, blue ejes, broad nose, fair moustache only, thick lips, large bony hands, birth- mark on left wrist; dressed in brown suit and drab soft- felc hat; wears a black- silk- braid watch- guard, with gold " Kia Ora " shield thereon, and a heart- shaped green- stone pendant attached thereto ; fond of music ; plays the violin. SYDNEY.— FRANK HAGAR'S thoroughbred trotting, stallion has been recovered. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 354.) WILKINSBURG, PA. ( U. S. A.). — Inquiry is requested to ascertain the present whereabouts of Donald R. Pierce, age twenty- nine, height about 5 ft. 7 in., weight about 140 lb. to 1501b., very freckled complexion, black hair, grey eyes, olean- shaved, one upper front tooth artificial, upper back teeth are gold- filled ; good habits ; generally wears a class ring with blaok- enamel figures " 1903," a Masonic button, and a diamond pin. He was last heard of Oakland, California. He may be identioal with Pierce McDonald, who is supposed to be employed as a steward on one of the U. S. S. Company's New Zealand coastal steamers. Inquiry is at the instance of Frederick W. Andrew, 1119 Ross Ave., through the Inspector - General of Police, Sydney. Whitebait- fishing in Westland and Taranaki. ISLINGTON, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House, at Wellington, this nineteenth day of September, 1911. Present : His EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL. WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twelfth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and ten, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the fifteenth day of the same month, regulations were made regarding the taking of whitebait : And whereas it is desirable to make additional regula- tions : Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers con- ferred upon him by the fifth section of the Fisheries Act, 1908, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations. REGULATIONS. 1. WHITEBAIT nets fixed in what are known as trenches or groynes may be used as set- nets for taking whitebait in the rivers and streams in the County of Westland; but no person shall construct or use more than one groyne or trench, which shall be marked by a post erected by him above high- water mark in line with the groyne or trench and bearing in distinct letters the name of the person who is using the groyne or trench. The position of each groyne or trench shall, before construction, be approved by the Collector of Customs or by an Inspector of Fisheries, and no groyne or trench shall be moved to another position without the approval of the Collector or an Inspector. 2. Each person shall, during the whitebait season, use his groyne or trench at least four days a week, unless prevented by illness, floods, or other reason which the Collector or Inspector considers sufficient, failing which his right to it shall be forfeited. 3. Set- nets having an opening of not more than 3 ft. by 1 ft. 6 in. may be used for taking whitebait in the rivers and streams in the Counties of Clifton, Taranaki, and Egmont; but no person shall use any groyne, race, or lead in connection with such nets. No " person shall use more than one set- net, and no person shall set a line of set- nets across any river or stream in the said counties, or set or place his set- net or use any other fishing- net within a distance of 2 chains from another set- net. 4. Any person committing a breach of the foregoing regulations, or either of them, is liable to a fine of not less than £ 1 and not exceeding .£ 20. J. F.
