THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FJRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1911. VOL. XXVIII., No. 2892. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 64. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officcr of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" art only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequ< nt issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. DERBYSHIRE. 12.— Derby { County).— For obtaining food by false pretences at Little Eaton between 2nd and 4th inst.— EDWARD COX TAYLOR, age about 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., hair ( going bald) and large moustache light, eyes pale blue, very small eye- lashes, cannot sound his H's properly; dress, black frock coat ( too large for him), and vest, turning green, grey trousers, silk hat, low shoes, carried a small parcel and umbrella with cherry- wood handle. Bradford, signed, Bevan Douglas — A MAN, who gave the name of H. Bradford, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion ruddy, hair auburn, clean shaven; dress, blue serge jacket suit, white straw hat, black band, brown boots. GL OUGES TERSHIRE. 14.— Bristol { City).— For obtaining credit to the extent of £ 29 15s. while an undischarged bankrupt, 19th November, 1910.— WILLIAM SMITH HERBERT, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 10 or If ins., stout build, large round shoulders, com- plexion and rather heavy moustache dark, hair dark brown, bullet wound centre of forehead, one wrist and left side, suffers from gout, stoops slightly. An ex- army officer. Engaged himself in this city preparing specimens for advertising the Docks. A stonemason, native of Gloucester; was discharged from Bristol Prison on the 7th inst., after undergoing 21 days h. l. for failing to report. Warrant issued. 1 a. — Bristol [ City).-- For stealing £ 40 and a complete set of Transvaal ( Kruger) coins from the Salvation Army Shelter, 27th February, 1910.— THOMAS DUNSMORE, a Scotchman, age about 22, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., complexion pale, clean shaved, front teeth missing, rather bow legged, woman tattooed on one forearm, crest with Mary and true love on other; dress, light grey overcoat, greyish suit ( riding style), may be wearing dark leggings. Has been to sea as a cook's mate. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. Particulars relating to WILLIAM HOWARTH, Case No. 15, 4th March, 1910, cancelled, he having surrendered at Manchester. HAMPSHIRE. 17.— Portsmouth { Borough.)— For embezzle- ment— JAMES NEWLAND, age 18, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, abscess right side of face, 5 do. marks left side of face; wearing dark clothes, cap. He was formerly in an industrial school, was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment at the South Western Police Court, London, on 7th March, 1911, for larceny ( 3 charges), also to one day, at Bow Street, on 4th July last for begging. Warrant issued. IS.— Portsmouth { Borough).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the parish— WILLIAM POOR, aged 44, height 6 ft. hair and moustache dark, eyes dark brown, girl in tights on one arm, heart on the other; dressed as a navvy. KENT. 19.— SittingbournQ' { County).— For steal- ing £ 4.— FREDERICK ELSON BISHOP, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion dark, hair black, wart supposed right eye; dress, blue serge coat and trousers, fancy vest, with cats- eye buttons, black soft felt hat, steel chain with Roman Catholic brass pendant at end. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crowhurst, Sittingbourne. 20.— Ramsgate [{ Borough).— For obtaining £ 2 5s. by a worthless cheque, 4th iust.— JAMES DENNIE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair very dark, clean shaven, thick lower lip; dress, light jacket and trousers, light fancy vest, dark binding, white straw hat. He called at a House Agent's office, asked for per- mits to view grocery businesses which were adver- tised for sale, called at one, and after negotiating for the purchase, left the shop but returned shortly afterwards and produced a cheque, No. F- T/ 334902 drawn on the London & Provincial Bank, Ltd., Roman Road Branch, by Frank Duggan in favour of James Dennie for the payment of £ 2 5s. and induced the proprietor to cash same. The cheque is one from a book stolen at Victoria Park Road, London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. IX.— Bowgrave { County).— For assault on Police, 6th inst.— JOHN HOWARTH, alias SALT, age 35, height 5 ft. 8£ ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, round face; supposed to have joined the Militia. WILLIAM GASTALL, age 34, height 6 ft. 2 ins., oval face, hair and'eyes brown, an ex- soldier, tattooed both arms, Crown and Queen Victoria in year 1837 & 1897 on breast. JOHN HOLDEN, alias GERMAN, age 29, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, oval face, burn mark, tattoo mark and cut left forearm. Labourers; natives of Clitheroe. Gill, Bowgrave. 22.— HufSt { County).— For converting to his own use a horse at Hartshead 28th ult.— THOMAS PRICE, age 30, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, clean shaven, very prominent nose; dress, dark brown suit, muffler, cap and old boots. A labourer; native of Harts- head, frequently obtains work at Livery Stables, Trotting grounds, etc. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst, Ashton- under- Lyne. 23 — Manchester { City).— For failing to report— GEORGE BELL, alias ARMSTRONG, ELLIS, JOHNSON, BROWN, WALTER AT- KINS, JOHN ROBERTS, and JOHN BENN BROWN, Office No., 3435- 98, age 48, height 5 ft. 3| ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar and three scars back of neck, two scars fore- head, mole right cheek, mole left cheek, 2 moles back left wrist, 2 moles left ear. A bricklayer, native of Manchester, and— EDWIN HESKETH, alias STEVENS and STEPHENS, Office No. 1596- 01, age 35, height 5 ft. 8g ins., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes brown, scar bridge of nose, spray flowers, female head, lizard, upper right arm, 8- point star, 2 naked females, spray of flowers back, rose, snake, heart, head of female, front right forearm, clasped hands and heart, back right wrist, head of female, Dolly, head and shoulders of man, upper left arm, broken dagger, elbow; tree and snake, spray of flowers and snake, left forearm; half brace- let, back left wrist; and butterfly, back left hand. NO TTINGHA MS HIRE. 24.— Nottingham { City).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque, 29th ult., a 14- ct. gold open face, crystal, keyless lever watch, metal dome, 455/ 26- 11450, scratched inside case, No. believed 73784, and a 9- ct. gold open curb double albeit, weight 1 oz. 13 clwts. 3 grains.— JOHN WALLIS, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion florid, hair and moustache brown, large nose; wearing brownish rough tweed coat and vest, black bowler hat, dark tie, paste diamond brooch therein. On 29th ult. he called at the Long Eaton Branch of Parr's Bank, presented a cheque for payment of £ 300, drawn on the Stamford, Spalding, and Boston Bank and obtained a cheque book; on the same day he called at a jeweller's and tendered one of the cheques in payment for the watch and chain. Is no doubt identical with FRANK HAYES, alias JOHN BANKS, wanted at Scar- borough and Horncastle. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Nottingham.
