" VT OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which ^ reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. AUCKLAND.— 4th instant, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Harold Vincent Harvey, alias H. Y. Har- graves. age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 3fin., sign- writer and labourer, native of England, dark complexion, dark- brown hair, brown eyes, clean- shaved, irregular teeth ; dressed in dark suit and black hard hat. Offender received a cheque for £ 2 4s. 9d. drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, by Daniel O'Con nor, farmer, Clevedon, alteivd the amount to £ 5 4s. 91., and uttered the forged document to Mary Bonner, Shake- speare Hotel, Auckland. FREEMAN'S BAY.— 27th May last, on warrant for forging and uttering a cheque for £ 3 to Elizabeth Collins, College Road, J. Gill ( probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, nat ve of New Zealand, medium build, fresb complexion, red ha'r, clean- shaved ; dressed in greenish- brown tweed suit, and much- faded white- straw hat. Offender obtained a blank cheque cn the National Bank of New Zealand ( Limited), Auckland, filled it in for £ 3, and forged the signature " Winstone, Limited.'' CAMBRIDGE.— 29th May last, on warrant for theft of £ 4 from William Warrington, farmer, Frank Hampton, age nineteen, height about 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slim build, dark wavy hair, blue eves, large nose, clean- shaved ; indolent disposition ; fond of billiards. NAPIICR.— Alfred or Cockney Masters, wanted on warrant for failing to comply with maintenarce orders: It has been ascertained by Sergeant Harvev, Wellington police, that offender has gone to Svdney. Photogrnph filed in the Inspector's Office, Wanganui. Offender is supposed to have come to Welling- ton, with a view to leaving the Dominion. He may be accoinpani ed by Victoria Maud Membry and baby. CHRISTCHURCH.— James Stanton, alias Nobby, de- fault of fine and costs, has been arrested by Constable Martin, Ashburton police, on information supplied by De- tective Gibson, Christchurch police. AUCKLAND.— 8tli ultimo, the dwelling of ADA McMAHON, Beach Road, was broken into, and the following articles stolen from a bedroom therein: An 18 ct. gold wedding- ring, with " 22 " scratched on inside ; agentlemen's knot- pattern 18 ct gold ring, insoribed with initials " F. McM." ; a gold locket, with small neck- chain attached ; an 18 ct. gold band ring, chased with flowers; a claw- set 15 ct. gold engage- ment- ring, all gems missing; a greenstone brooch, with three gold bands and " Kia Ora " in gold letters thereon; a gold safety- pin brooch, with the letter " A " in gold thereon ; total value, £ 6 9s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attaoned to a Man ( name unknown), who was seen in the house, age about thir y six, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, fair complexion, reddish moustache ; dressed in dark suit and black bard hat. NEWTON.— 24th May last, the dwelling of JOSEPH HENRY ANGROVE, oarter, Richmond Road, was broken into, and two new green- and- red- ooloured rugs, £ 45 in single bank- notes, and 12s. in silver coin stolen therefrom. Willoughby, alias Bentley, & c., charged with ihe offence by Detective Cox and Constable Leckie, Auckland police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 323.) MANAIA.— JOHN CLAREBUNT'S property has been re- covered by Constable Carroll, Manaia p lice. Tliev were traced to the possession of a boy named George Butler, who says he found them in the domain. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 303.) ABSCONDING FROM INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL. LEVIN.— Harry Clare, age seventeen, height about 5 ft. 5in., native of New Zealand, well bui't, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, lop ears, full face, slovenly gait, soar over right eve; dressed in dark- green suit, grey- twetd overcoa'., and black cap. He was committed to the school on 4tli Maroh last at Blenheim, and absconded from the Weraroa Training- farm on 1st instant. DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE. < From H. M. S. " Cambrian." AUCKLAND.— Walter Hood, age twenty- three, height 5 ft. 3 in., A. B., native of Preston, brown hair, grey ejes, fair complexion, anchor, heart, &)., on left forearm, ring ta tooed [ on left little finger, cro- sed hands over heart un right forearm. Deserted 6th instant. A reward not exceed- ing £ 3 will be paid for his apprehension. From H. M. S. " Pyramus." BEISBANE. — William Patrick Bernard Norman, alias Carroll, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6Jin., stoker, nativo of Syanev, light- brown hair, grey eyes, rosy complexion. Deserted 27th ultimo. A reward of £ 3 will be paid for his apprehension. MISSING. AUCKLAND.— Since 9th May, 1906, ROBERT SHAW, age forty- four, height 5 ft. 11J in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, heavy brown moustache. He was last heard of at Gisborne, and may be employed at railway or tramway construction works. Inquiry by his father, Robert Shaw, Castlereagh, Penrith, New South Wales, through the Inspeotor of Police. CHRISTCHURCH— Since 6th ultimo, Leonard Manton Everitt, age thirty- eight, height 5ft. 11 in., hairdresser, native of Oamaru, New Zealand, slim build, fair com- plexion, very high forehead, blue eyes, fair moustaoho only, portion of one little finger missing ; generally dressed in dark- coloured striped suit, light- brown waterproof over- ooat, grey- felt hat. He was last heard of in Wellington, where he received correspondence at the General Post Office. Inquiry by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Everitt, 106 Peterborough Street, who fears that he has deserted her. ASHBUETON.— Since 22nd February last, Joseph Collins, age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of North Dunedin, ' New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, small fair moustache only, large jaws, small chest. JULY 19 CROMWELL.— Since 2nd instant, Loo Chat, age about | sixty- five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., miner, native of China, thin build, olive complexion ; wears a queue. Pears are entertained for his safety. Inquiry by Ah Chee. INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND. SYDNEY.— George Michael, alias Jarburji Harji, wanted on warrant for wife desertion : A photograph of offender is now filed in the Commissioner's Office, Welling- ton. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 324.) ( 11/ 1344, and P. P. B. 269/ 11.) MACQUARIF, DISTRICT ( TASMANIA).— A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of Louis Levy, charged with leaving his six children without means of support at Zeehan. Description : Age thirty- nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., miner, dark- brown hair and moustache ( curled at the ends), blue eyes, dark complexion, Jowish nose, high forehead, teeth dis- coloured, medium build, thick lips, large ears, shaved face, pleasant appearance, portion of right middle finger missing. Offender is supposed to have come to New Zealand. If located, an immediate communication is to be sent to the Commissioner's Office, Wellington, before further action is taken. GLENORCHY ( TASMANIA)-.— Between 20th May last and 8th ultimo, the following articles of jewellery were stolen from the bedroom of Annie Crawford, Elwick Hotel : A gentlemen's heavy gold ring, set with a yellow- coloured centre- gem in a cluster of diamonds, value £ 100; a ladies' five- diamond claw- set engagement- ring, with " H." and, probably, " Saunders" on inside, \ alue£ 5; and a ladies' gold engine- turned double case watch ( value not stated). Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to William Campbell, auppo- ed wool- broker, formerly of Cbristchurch, who is believed to have come to New Zealand. Inquiry by the Commissioner of Police, Hobart. ( 11/ 1334.) HOBART ( TASMANIA).— Inquiry is requested to ascertain the wheieabouts of Alfred Edward Thomas Rogers, age twenty- three, heigut 5 ft. 8J in., ex constable and labourer, native of Kempton, Tasmania, medium and ereot build, fresh inclined to dark complexion, dark- brown hair, small dark eyes, small round face, turned- up nose, small dark moustache only, thin lips, quiet manner; generally dressed in dark suit and straw hat. He was last heard of at Bluff. Inquiry by Mrs. J. J. Holmes, Stanley, Tasmania, through the Commissioner of Police, Hobart. If located, he is not to be interviewed or otherwise mado aware of the inquiry, but an immediate communication is to be sent to the Com- missioner's Office, Wellington. ( 11/ 1371.) BLLAWAYO ( SOUTH AFRICA).— Inquiry is requested to as- certain the whereabouts of Albert Joseph Donovan, age about thiriy, height about 5 ft. 10 in., farmer, native of Ireland, but was educated in England and speaks with a Cockney accent, strong build, dark- brown hair, blue eyes, very square jaws. He was last heard of at Kaipara about eighteen months ago, and it is feared his mind has become affected through ill health. Inquiry by his brother, through the British South Africa police.
