THE FOLIC GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JULY 7, 1911. VOL. XXVIII., No. 2872. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4. remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 8. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 13. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street I'ost Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. AU copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 10.— Cheltenham ( County).— For obtain, ing money by false pretences, 27th and 30th May last.— J. T. COOK alias MARSHALL, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 ins., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved; dress, blue suit, black bowler hat.— F. M. KEN- DALL, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair and rather long moustache light; dress, dark frock coat and trousers, white straw hat, with black band, rather old boots, of shabby appearance. The first described represented himself as a collector for a directory and hotel guide; the second as a collector on behalf of the London and Provincial Publishing Company, Fleet Street, London. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 12.— Bristol ( City).— For embezzling £ 1 9s. 9 id.— PERCY WILLIAMS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, has been employed as a grocer's assistant. Absconded 24th ult. and believed to have gone to South Wales, where he will probably seek employment in the collieries. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. HAMPSHIRE. 18. — Bournemouth ( County).— For leaving his children chargeable to the Christchurch Union — HORACE CLAMPTON GRIMWOOD, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh ( sunburnt), hair brown, very dark under eyes; dress when he absconded about 2 months ago, blue suit, left boot cut for bunion; had in his possesion a black bowler and a white felt hat. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 15.— Huntingdon ( County).— For shopbreak- ing at Godmanchester, between 21st and 23rd ult. — A MAN, supposed CHARLES EVANS, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache grey; dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, trou- sers slightly darker, greenish grey cap with large peak, neckerchief, lace boots, carried a black bag. Had in his possession a photograph of an elderly woman and may have two cheques drawn in favour of Ernest Whybray, and a Post Office Bank Book. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Huntingdon. KENT. 16— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing £ 40 14s. 9d.— GEORGE FREDERICK TANNER, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, clean shaven, addicted to drink; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat. Has been employed as a clerk to a Motor Cab firm. May be found spend- ing money freely. Absconded 3rd inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. 17.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining a postal order for payment of 15s. by false pre- tences, 6th ult.— GEORGE SANDERS alias JACKSON, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, full face, hair and moustache light, inclined to ginger; dress, dark jacket suit, bowler hat, had with him a brown portmanteau about 2 ft. 6 ins. long. He took a room at South- end lst ult., advertised poultry houses, etc., for sale in the " Poultry World," and received letters and postal orders. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. 23.— Newcastle- upon- Tyne ( City).— For embezzling £ 158 3s. Od., monies of a limited liability company of which he was a director— WILLIAM LORRISON, age 38, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, of smart appearance; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat, carrying two overcoats, one with astrachan collar, luggage consisted of a brown portmanteau and a large light brown tin trunk. SOMERSE TSHIRE. 25.— Bath ( City). — For stealing from her lodgings 3rd inst., a pair lady's plain front Ooots, elastic sides; 1 lady's black umbrella, flat knobbed handle; 1 do. pair black stockings, and 4s. ; also for obtaining food by false pretences— ALICE JACKSON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., rather stout build, complexion pale, hair ( inclined to ginger) light; dress, navy- blue serge skirt, bodice and threequarter coat, strapped pattern,, black hat, trimmed blue ribbon, silver shield shaped Sal- vation Army brooch, and the stolen boots. She took lodgings stating she had been employed 14 years at a stay factory, Bristol, and was trans- ferred to the Bath branch, also that she was a native of London. Warrant issued. A vanman or grocer's porter, supposed a native of Leamington. Warrant issued. 84.— Redditch \( County).— For housebreaking about 15th ult., and stealing a quantity of horse hair— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft 6 to 8 ins., slight build, complexion pale, hair ( inclined to sandy) light; dress, long light jacket and vest, or black morning coat, light cord timisers, white muffler, black hard hat, lace boots.^ A rag and bone gatherer, believed a native of London; stays at common lodging houses. Od.; 1 plated tea spoon, five pointed star crest thereon; 1 gold chain bangle, LANCASHIRE. 18.— Watrington ( Borough).- For embezzling £ 1 13s. 3d.— JOHN HATTON, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, high forehead, hair ( slightly bald on top) dark brown, rather heavy moustache, sandy, eyes brown; dress, green jacket and vest, breeches, leggings, light cap. A laundry vanman, native of Warrington. Is a good horseman, may seek employment as a cab- man, driver or stableman. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Warrington. LINCOLNSHIRE. 19.— Alford ( County).— For obtaining 3s. 6d. by false pretences, at Cumberworth, 13th ult.— A. ROGERS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 ins., com- plexion fresh, supposed freckled, hair brown, small moustache,, light or ginger, pointed nose; dress, darkish overcoat, brown check jacket, blue trousers, cap with bright peak, dark blue tie, lace boots. Stated he resided at Grimsby and that he had a van at Mablethorpe. Takes photographs, collects money in advance, gives a receipt for same and states the photographs will be sent on the following week. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Hill, Alford. NORFOLK. 20.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining butter by false pretences, 13th ult.— JAMES ARTHUR BULLEN, age 22, height 5 ft 8^ ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blvie, clean shaved, burn scar left forearm, second right finger de- formed, quiet manner ; dress greenish brown striped suit, soft felt hat, soft collar, lace boots, rubber heels. A native of Norwich. Warrant issued. 21 — Norwich ( City).— For stealing, 27th ult., £ 5, 3 20/- postal orders, a pair of heavy gold sleeve links, oval, " T. L. H." thereon, and a navy- blue suit with faint stripes, lounge pattern, raised seams, cuffs turned back, " T. Smith, Harrow," believed inside breast pocket of jacket— RICHARD CURNOW PERRY, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair black, clean shaved, eyes brown, scar left knee, a good linguist; wearing the stolen suit, and black hard hat. An officer's ser- vant of the 16th Lancers. Absconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Norwich. NORTHUMBERLAND. M- Newcastle- uPon - Tyne ( City).— For embezzling £ 10, 23rd ult.— JOHN T. RICH- ARDS, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes right blue, left artificial, w, alks smartly, Tyneside dialect; dress, navy- blue serge jacket suit, rough grey over- coat with dark grey stripes, black felt hat. May endeavour to leave the country. A fruit salesman or clerk. Warrant issued. STAFFORDSHIRE. 26.— Lichfield ( County).— For stealing a bicycle, 26th inst— PERCY BLEWTTT, ago 17, height 5 ft. 1 in. complexion fresh, hair browfl, eyes grey, scar left elbow, centre of forehead, left side lower border of ribs ; wearing uniform, a drum- mer of the 2nd South Staffordshire Regiment. Native of Lichfield. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Lichfield. 27.— Wolverhampton( Borough).— For em- bezzling 10s. 4th April last.— FREDERICK WIL, LIAMSON alias WILKINSON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion pale, hair and stubby moustache light, prominent teeth, hunch back, walks with quick steps, addicted to drink; dress, dark grey plaid suit, rubber collar, blue tie, dark cap, light lace boots. A fitter or salesman, native of Clun, Shropshire. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 28.— Wolverhampton ( Borough).— For ob- taining £ 139 9s. 6d. by false pretences, 24th and 31st May last.— ALBERT HAWTHORNE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and moustache dark brown; may now be clean shaved, large cut scar on side of nose; dress, black Melton coat and vest, breeches and leggings, cap, lace boots. A butcher, native of Sedgley. Warrant issued. Not to be arested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Wolver- hampton. SUSSEX ( East). 29.— Hailsham ( County).- For stealing ( bailee) a pair of boots.— WALTER PATTERSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion sunburnt, sharp features, hair, small moustache and eyes dark; dress, brown flannel jacket with white stripes, dark trousers, vest and cap, low shoes. SO.— Solihull ( County).— For forging a cheque for £ 13, lst inst.— CHARLES JELFS, age 35, height 5ft. 8 ins., complexion fair, hair ( bald on top) brown; dress, black jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, narrow stripe, green overcoat, black bow- ler hat, brown boots.
