XXVIII., No. 2856. 3* 1- AR communication* for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF TBB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. S. Particulars as to" stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. T. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning dilinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to tht number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bi Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZBTTB re- transmitted by Police Forces should b » prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THE EDITOR, NPW Scotland Yard. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( a) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one months imprison- ment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one months imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences : — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, nutifi/ the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or convictions if possible, also the No. published in the List of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. May be found in company of soldiers in garrison towns. 4.— IV Division.— For forging and uttering telegraphic money orders, and obtaining £ 50— SIDNEY THOMAS FIELDER, age 32, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion sallow, long thin face, hair dark brown, eyes dark, well educated, quiet spoken; wearing fawn coloured mackintosh, black hard felt hat. A weaver. Had in his pos- session an old English lever watch, leather guard, and 5 or 6 pairs of weaver's scissors. He ob- tained employment at a cotton mill, through the Labour Exchange by representing that he re- sided at Marple, also stated that he had worked at mills at Ashton, Oldham, and Rochdale. A monu- mental stone- mason's traveller. Is well- known in Wales, Liverpool, Birkenhead, Ellesmere Port, and Chester. May be accompanied by a woman. Photograph can be seen on application. Believed a native of London. He afterwards hired a Gazelle Raleigh bicycle, 22 in. frame, upturned handlebars, roller lever brakes, No. 38126, Buccaneer tyres, and decamped. A Maltese seaman. May apply at shipping offices for his discharge book. Warrant issued. 19.— Cardiff ( City).— For absconding with workhouse clothing—- WILLIAM LALLEY, age 62, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, oval face, thin, sharp nose, hair ( turning grey) light clean shaven, eyes small; dress, dark tweed suit, cap, Blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Workhouse." A marine fireman; FREDERICK STREET, age 46, height 5 ft. 10 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes dark Urown, very excitable; dress, dark blue serge suit, light tweed overcoat, dark blue serge cap, red and black or pink scarf, Blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Workhouse." GRICE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 3t or 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, clean shaved, small hole left cheek; dress, navy blue suit, black bowler hat, heavy dark blue or black overcoat, brown boots, nearly new. Stated he was employed by the Board of Trade to ex- amine telephone lines on the G. N. Railway. Id.— JOHN INGHAM SMITH, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, J. S. right forearm, leans to left side when walking; dress, black jacket, vest and cap, and the stolen trousers. A labourer; native of St. Helens. He was at Glossop 29th ult., and stated his intention of going to Liverpool. Will probably stay at common lodging houses and seek employment on public works. Expelled from the United Kingdom 28tli March last, but lias returned, and is liable to arrest without war- rant ( Home Office Correspondence, 202687). Must be dealt with where found.
