THE FOLIC GAZETT PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SKKIK- FRIDAY, MAY 5, 1911. VOL. XXVIII., No. 2854. 1. Alt communication• for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THB POLICB GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. /• all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( 5s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property b< ar a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning ddinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if acc< pted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the. Page, Case No. 24, 18th November, 1910. A MAN, age 45, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, flat nose, hair light, clean shaven, eyes dark; dress, grey tweed suit, light mackintosh, dark cap. CHESHIRE. 7.— Hazel Grove ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Marple, 28th or 29th ult., a pair of light lace boots, narrow toes, capped, size 7 nearly new; 1 razor, black handle, " Army and Navy" on blade— JOHN WILLIAM THOMP- SON, age 34 or 35, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., stout build, complexion very dark, hair and mous- tache black, squints left eye, bust of woman and flag left forearm, clasped hands and flag right forearm; dress, dark jacket and vest, slate coloured trousers, red muffler, dark cap and the stolen boots. A weaver. Had in his pos- session an old English lever watch, leather guard, and 5 or 6 pairs of weaver's scissors. He ob- tained employment at a cotton mill, through the Labour Exchange by representing that he re- sided at Marple, also stated that he had worked at mills at Ashton, Oldham, and Rochdale. WALTER WILSON, age about 19, height about 5ft. 6in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache ( light), Herefordshire or Welsh accent, dress brown suit, square cut jacket, blue muffler, grey cap with black stripes, reddish waist belt, brown boots, silver ring on third right finger. Had with them a child, age 4 months, a small mailcart, " Tanner, 8, Weston Road," painted on bottom bar, and two bicycles. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Believed a native of London. He afterwards hired a Gazelle Raleigh bicycle, 22 in. frame, upturned handlebars, roller lever brakes, No. 38126, Buccaneer tyres, and decamped. 17.— Colchester ( Borough). — Fov stealing lst inst., from a barracks, a black overcoat, velvet collar; 1 pair black trousers; 1 dark green jacket; 1 blue serge vest; 1 silver watch and chain; 1 do. cigarette holder, 1 dress ring, and a new Ains- worth bicycle— JOHN MANZIE, height 5 ft. 3i ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair brown", eyes blue, linear scar left cheek, scar left hip. Supposed wearing the stolen clothing and to be making his way to Glasgow. Is a deserter from the 2nd Battalion Scottish Rifles. 18.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing, 30th ult., an Ajax bicycle, 26 in. frame, dropped handlebars, cork grips, ( one broken), Dunlop tyres, 2 outer covers on front, plated rims lined red and white, metal pump, carrier, and tool bag attached, new free wheel, No. supposed 10087 un- der crank, — CLEGG, age about 23, height 5 ft. b\ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, Fanny, Clara, dove and girl's head right forearm, sailor, etc., left forearm. A native of Leeds, Is a private of the West Yorkshire Regi- ment. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. FLINTSHIRE. 19.— Mold ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 13th ult., a bicycle, 22 in. frame, Clincher tyres with beaded edge, ordinary front brake, celluloid mud guard on back wheel— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5i ins., complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaven; dress brown coat and vest, moleskin trousers, blue slop. A native of Birkenhead. Stated he was going to Bolton. Information to Supt. Davi€ 6, Mold. GLAMORGA NSHIRE. 20.— Bridgend ( County). — For failing to surrender to his bail at Glamorgan Assizes, charged with obtaining money by a worthless cheque— EVAN THOMAS, age 48, height 5 ft. 5 ins., very stout build, complexion fresh, full round face, hair and eyes grey, a cripple, suffers from partial paralysis of legs, uses sticks, addicted to drink, slight American accent; dress, dark blue serge suit, bowler hat, lace boots. Late of Llantris- sant. Usually takes a cab or motor- car, and at the end of journey refuses to pay his fare. Has been in America. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davies, Bridgend. 21 .— Cardiff ( City).— For failing to report change of residence— JAMES McALISTER, Office No. 1616- 02, age 36, height 5 ft. 4J ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2~ scars head, one left cheek and inside right hand, star tattooed back left wrist, L. M., tombstone left forearm. Sentenced South London Sessions 19th February, 1908 to 3A years' penal servitude and 2 years' police supervision for attempted burglary. A Maltese seaman. May apply at shipping offices for his discharge book. Warrant issued. 24.— Cardiff ( City],— For absconding with workhouse clothing— WILLIAM LALLEY, age 62, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, oval face, thin, sharp nose, hair ( turning grey) light clean shaven, eyes small; dress, dark tweed suit, cap, Blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Workhouse." A marine fireman; FREDERICK STREET, age 46, height 5 ft. 10 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes dark Crown, very excitable; dress, dark blue serge suit, light tweed overcoat, dark blue serge cap, red and black or pink scarf, Blucher boots, all stamped " Cardiff Union Workhouse." A labourer. Street was admitted to the workhouse hospital, suffering from phthisis, and absconded 17th March last. Warrants issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 25.— Aldershot ( County).— For embezzlement at Odiham— WILLIAM COOK, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion, hair ( curly) and small moustache dark; dress, blue serge suit, dark cap. Left Odiham 2nd ult, riding a bicycle. A journey- man butcher. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment— FREDERICK TURNER, age 58, height 5 ft. 9ins., hair and moustache grey, very deaf, has habit of pinching his nose when in conversation. Has been employed as a Coal Merchant's canvas- ser. Is a pensioner of the Royal Garrison Artillery May be accompanied by a Scotch woman, believed short and dark, and a baby. Warrant issued. 27.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 2nd ult., ERNEST WILLIAM HOUGHTON, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., com- plexion pale, may be growing a beard, cross and dot left forearm, is a deserter from H. M. S. Grafton and may be wearing seaman's uniform. Warrant issued. 28.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail, 25th ult., charged with stealing a zinc bath, 15th inst, GEORGE BARTLETT, age 24, height 5 ft 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, dress fawn colour covert coat or mackintosh, dark trousers, neckerchief, plaid cap. Not now wanted. 30.— Hitchin ( County). — For non- payment of £ 5 3s. 6d., maintenance arrears— WILLIAM ROBERT GOODENOUGH, age 47, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion and moustache dark, hair and eyes grey, mole right cheek, limps slightly. Stated he was employed by the Board of Trade to ex- amine telephone lines on the G. N. Railway. Warrant issued. S'Z.— Hitchin ( County).— For obtaining a new Gladstone bag by false pretences 28th ult.— AR- THUR WATSON, age about 31, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion fair, full face, hair brown, eyes grey; dress striped check tweed jacket, dark red striped vest, breeches, brown leggings, las- tened with straps, carried a light mackintosh. He called at a shipping office, and arranged to book a passage to New York; also represented that he was a comedian's chauffeur. Warrant issued. 38.— Hitchin ( County). — For burglary at Knebworth, 17th ult.— A MAN, age about 26, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., slight build, complexion fair, hair and small moustache light, carries hia head slightly forward; dress, dark pepper and salt colour Norfolk jacket ( no belt), old grey mixture cap. Sells flowers ( made of rushes) at race meet- ings, football matches, etc., sometimes sings in public houses, and will probably be found at a common lodging house. Warrant issued. SI.— Canterbury ( City). — For stealing ( bailee) 25th ult., a Centaur bicycle, free wheel, 24 in. frame, 28 ill. by li in. wheels, plated rims, ( front one lined black), black enamelled lined red and gold, No. 15457, bracket 2- speed gear, 2 roller lever brakes, upturned handlebars, black grips, Warwick tyres, divided rubber pedals, transfer on back mudguard, " Victor Roi and Son, Canterbury and Herne Bay," " Centaur, Coven- try," transfer on head and back down tube, Im- perial saddle, and tool bag— EDGAR WEBB, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes brown, scar back of head, dove, flowers, Faith, Hope and Charity right forearm, hand clasping dagger, butterfly, whip and cap left fore- arm ; dress khaki uniform with brown leather ban- dolier. A native of Norwich. May endeavour to ' re- enlist. Is a deserter from the 3rd E. Kent Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constablel, Canter- bury. 38.— Margate ( Borough).— For embezzlement, — ALBERT G. MOORE, age about 42, height 5 ft. 3 ror 4 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair ( curly) and moustache brown, may be clean shaven, eyes blue, lisps slightly, several teeth miss- ing, large abscess scar left jaw, walks quickly and turns his toes slightly inwards, addicted to drink; dress, dark blue diagonal suit, black hard felt hat, dark grey or dark Melton overcoat, lace boots. A grocer's clerk and canvasser. Attends whist drives and dances. Absconded 24th ult. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. LANCASHIRE. 39 - St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing, ! i9th ult., a suit ( recovered); 1 pair green trousers with white and brown stripes, and 10s. Id.— JOHN INGHAM SMITH, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes grey, J. S. right forearm, leans to left side when walking; dress, black jacket, vest and cap, and the stolen trousers. A labourer ; native of St. Helens. He was at Glossop 29th ult.. and stated his intention of going to Liverpool. Will probably stay at common lodging houses and seek employment on public works. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. 40.- Warrington ( Borough).— For . stealing, 7th ult., a bicycle ( recovered) — SAMUEL BLEAKLEY, age 31, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., rather broati shoulders, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, woman tattooed on one arm; dress, grey jacket and trousers, blue vest, grey cap, brown boots.
