AX ctmmuniceilioas for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action ' to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact eonditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons vjhose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the articlc is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6j. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer mf not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. 9. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in tlte POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice ef the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whioh may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded s » as to be received not later than noon en Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Tard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Criminal Investigation De- partment.— For fraudulently converting £ 2,498 7s. 6d., to his own use,— ALFRED CHARLES EDWARDS, age 50, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top), moustache and side whiskers dark, turning grey, eyes ( close together and shifty), dark, large pro- minent ears, walks with firm step, inclined to stammer when excited, dress, usually in dlark clothes, sometimes wears frock coat and silk hat. A cigar and tobacco merchant. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United KingcTom, but if located, it is requested that information be forwarded to the Assistant Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department, New Scot- land Yard, S. W. 2.— A Division.— Vol- fraud, SEPTIMUS BRIGHT, alias DR. BRIGHT and EUSTACE SMITH, Office No. 1168- 01 ( illustrated circular 66 figure 26) age 56, height 6 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair ( thin on top) dark brown, turning grey, eyes grey, may be clean shaved, stoops slightly; dress usually frock coat and silk hat. Advertises in daily papers for a secretary or mana- ger, and obtains deposits from them. Has been managing director of the Peace Promoting Society, with branches at Newcastle- on- Tyne, York, Liver- pool, Birmingham, Southampton, and Cardiff. Warrant issued. 3.— IV Division.— For absconding from his bail, having heen charged with stealing a motor- car and motor tyres ( recovered)— MAX STEINER, a , Swiss\ aSe 29> height 5 ft. 10£ in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes grey; dress dark grey suit^, bowler hat. Warrant issued. 4-— Y Division « — For obtaining money, etc,, by false pretences— WILLIAM HENRY JAMES, alias CRAWFORD, age about 70, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair ( bald on top), whiskers and moustache white, eyes blue,, drops right shoulder when walking, slightly bow- legged; dress dark green jacket suit, soft felt hat, or frock Coat and silk hat, leather watchguard, carried a bamboo stick, crutch- bone handle. He took lodg- ings,. and represented that he had money in Chan- cery and property in the Provinces. Warrant issuod. 5.— Y Division.— For embezzling 4s., 8th February last.— HARRY WILLIAMS, age 42, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion florid, hair ( wavy), and heavy moustache dark, slightly bald, eyes blue; dress, grey jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, grey overcoat, grey tie with black stripes, bowler hat. A canvasser and collector, native of Kentish Town, London. Warrant issued. Information to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 6.— Windsor ( County). — For leaving his children chargeable to the Old Windsor Union, lst. inst.— ARTHUR WHITING, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 ins., square shoulders, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey), brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, scar centre of forehead, lower front teeth missing, tattooed both arms. A tramping lab- ourer, served in the 2nd Warwickshire Regiment, and was employed as assistant labour master at West Ham Workhouse. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 2 will be paid by P. Lovegrove, Esq., Clerk to the Guardians " Windsor, for ( he arrest of Whiting. Information to Supt. Hoiii. 12, Clewer. CHESHIRE. 7.— Chester ( City).— For stealing a diamond ring ( recovered)— WILLIAM HAMSON, alias HARRISON and HAIGH, age 27,. height 6 ft. 1 in., slight build, long narrow features, hair dark, eyes brown, clean shaven, large nose\. scar on bridge of nose, Canadian accent; dress blue serge jacket suit, fawn colour waterproof, dark blue tie with white spots, shoes. He stayed at an hotel here, and represented himself a Canadian horse buyer. Information to the Chief Constable, City Po- lice, Chester. DEVONSHIRE. S.— Devonnort ( Borough).— For fraud, also for stealing 11th inst. £ 3, two portmanteaux, initials " H. E. T." or " H. T. E." on one, a quantity of naval officer's uniform, one brown bag, six coloured shirts, two white shirts, one green felt hat, four pairs of fancy socks, twelve collars size 15, six pairs of white kid gloves, and two pairs of brown buckskin gloves— JAMES HAYNES, ago about 21, height 5 ffc. 4 or 5 in., I slight build, complexion fair, sharp features, eyes blue, ( peculiar appearance, deeply lined under- neath), hair ( long on top) brown, takes short quick steps. Dress, smooth grey lounge suit with slit up back, cap. Supposed a native of Weymouth. He absconded from H. M. S. " Colne," 11th inst.; had been employed as an officer's steward; former- ly a music- hall artist, and may seek similar em- ployment. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Devonport. DURHAM. 9 — Stockton- on- Tees ( County).— For deserting their families— THOMAS HART, age 42 or 43> height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache brown, a shipyard helper.— DAVID SYMINGTON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion swarthy, hair and moustache dark. A labourer.— WALTER HENDERSON, alias BROWN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown. A labourer.— WILLIAM STEWART, age about 47, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh> hair auburn, moustache ginger. A gardener.— SIDNEY TODD, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair brown. An electric crane driver.— JOHNSON JOBLING, age 37, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, hair black, moustache light. A la- bourer. Warrants issued. 10.— Stockton- on- Tees ( County).— For stealing 13th inst., a motor- cycle engine and mag- neto ( recovered)— WILLIAM MONKHOUSE, alias THOMPSON, age about 19, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown; dress grey jacket suit, with broad, darker stripee, grey tweed cap, fluted band, shoes, carried a brown leather portmanteau. A labourer or barman. Na- tive of Gateshead. Sentenced at Barrow- in- Fur- ness 17th March, 1909, to one month's imprison- ment for being found on enclosed premises. Warrant issued. A native of Blackburn. Is a deserter from the 3rd Dragoon Guards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 13.— Alton ( County).— For stealing, during October, 1910, a silver watch and 2 chains ( re- covered)— A MAN, age 34, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build^ complexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, snake, tree, and heart left forearm, pansy right forearm; dress dark tweed suit, hard bowler hat. A tramping tailor. Stays at common lodging- houses. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 14.— Bishop's Stortford ( County).— For failing to appear to a summons under the Old- Age Pension Act, 1908— SARAH JANE CLARY, age 7Q, height about 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes brown, walks with two crutches; dress black three- quarter length jacket, tight- fitting black skirt, and bonnet trimmed white frilling. Usually carries a black square leather bag con- taining umbrellas. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bishop's Stort- ford. KENT. 15.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences*, between 7th and 12th inst.— PERCIVAL LANE, age about 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., good build, complexion fresh, slight moustache; dress brownish jacket suit, greenish cap, silver albert, Maltese cross at- tached, small metal badge in jacket. Represented that he was in the employ of a London builder,, and was employed in the neighbourhood. Is also suspected of stealing a gold albert, fiat links, long . and short alternately chased, gold swivel seal, red and green stone. Warrant issued. 16.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining by false pretences a mole- colour coat and skirt, " Bourne and Sons " on tab of coat, 8th inst.— — WOOD, age about 25, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, round face; dress grey coat, green skirt, large straw hat, trimmed ribbon She presented a letter purporting to have been from a nurse at Broadstairs, asking that the costume be sent on approval Warrant issued. NORFOLK. 17.— Loddon ( County}.— For obtaining food, lodgings, and money by faho pretem- es, betvcen lst and 10th inst.— FRANCIS HUBERT CROP LEY, alias HUBERT COWLEY, age, 31, height 6 ft. lin., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, small scar left middle finger, bites his nails; dress, light cap, jacket vest and breeches, brown leg- gings, lace boots. A surveyor and contractor, late of Leatherhead, Surrey. May be found at a small public house or farm house. Absconded 10th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lord, Loddon. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 18.— Kettering ( County). — For stealing a black vicuna Chesterfield overcoat, 1 pair tan colour gloves, fur around wrists; 1 brown knotted stick, curved handle, silver mounted, and silver band.— TED CURTIS, age about 23, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light; dress, black frock coat, fancy light vest, light brown soft hat, pink front, bright red tie, patent leather boots. He calls up- on Music Hall managers, etc., states he is in the theatrical profession, but out of employment, and asks assistance to enable him to return to London. HOTTING HA MS HIRE. 19 - Nottingham ( City).— For obtaining bv false pretences between 22nd ult. and 8th inst., 3 typewriters ( 1 & No. 5 Underwood, No. 299235; 1 No. 4 Yost, No. 54916; 1 do. No. 42810); also for stealing from his lodgings a lady's 9 ct. gold keyless watch in green leather wrist strap, Swiss make, gold dial, chased back, front rim broken, " Samuel " on plate inside.— JAMES JACK FAR- RAR, alias ROBERT STANLEY FARRAP, age 36, height 5 ft. 6ins., complexion sallow, sharp features, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, large scar left eyebrow, 4 scars right of forehead; dress, light grey suit, black bowler hat, lace boots, He took an office in this city, used the name of Kelsey and Co., obtained typewriters from differ ent firms for testing with a view to purchase and absconded. A native of Sheffield. Warrant issued. 20 - Nottingham ( City). - For obtaining 2 motor- car tyres and one inner tube, by false pretences, 11th inst.— FRANZ LOTH AIR LEHR, a German, age 33, height about 5 ft. 9 in., gofid build,, Complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache ( clipped short) light, speaks broken English; dress greenish brown suit, greenish soft felt hat, tan colour boots, American shape, car- ried a Burberry coat. Stated he was an engineer. On 10th inst. the manager of a first- class hotel received a telephone message, presumably from a member of the London Motor Company, stating that his chauffeur was coming to Nottingham with his car, required rooms, and that he would arrive later. The above- described arrived, But stated he had a breakdown near Sheffield, and had left the car for repairs. The following morning he called at a garage, and arranged with the proprietor to proceed to Sheffield the same evening to fetch the damaged car,, instead of which he again called at the garage and stated that the proprietor had sent him for the tyres and tube. He then left by the 12.5 a. m. train for Sheffield. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Nottingham. SUFFOLK ( East). 21.— Ipswich ( Borough).— For stealing a case of mathematical instruments— FRANCIS MAY, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, turning grey, may now have a short beard, cast in one eye, peculiar gait. A draughtsman; native of Ips- wich. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ipswich. He called upon tradesmen, stated an unoccupied house in the district has been taken by a gentleman, and he would present the tradesman's card to the sup- posed tenant for a slight remuneration, with a view to obtaining his custom. 28.— Chertsey ( County).— Sentenced to six months' imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretences— EMILY YOUNG, ( ilias TAY- LOR, COOK, and MORRIS, age 43, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair brown eyes hazel, large mouth, top of left thumb missing. A ffower seller; native of Portsmouth. She called upon persons, stated her husband was in consumption, and required money to send him to a home.
