All communications f* r insertion in the POLICB GAZETTB, and all communica- tions relating to thee*, should be addressed to THE EDITO* Ot in Peuci GAZETTE, NBW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLIOM GAZBTTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clcmrlf stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious ofenees will be inserted at a cost of 8a. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or Minusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 9. 10. 11 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bemr • number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged hi counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result fron such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to le received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. AH copies of the POLICE GAZBTTB re- transmitted by Police Forces should b « prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Had with her Harry Edward Jones, age 12, and Arthur Jones, age 6.— JOHN BATCHFORD, age 20, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion pale, round face, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, of military appearance; dress, dark grey jacket suit and cap, white silk neckerchief, lace boots. Has served in the 2nd Essex Regiment. A native of Barking. Warrant issued. 4.— N Division. — For fraudulent conversion of £ 95— A. BURNS, an Austrian, age 35, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair ( thin on top), light, eyes grey, wearing a blue Melton overcoat, bowler or silk hat. He calls upon tradesmen solici- ting orders to regulate their arc lamps, and obtains money under the pretence of buying dynamos and other articles for the installation of their own plant for the making of electric light. BERKSHIRE. 5 — Wokingham ( County).— For failing" to comply with a bastardy order, also with an order adjudging him to pay £ 23 0s. lOd. costs of an ap- peal— STANLEY EVANS, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair brown, rather large eyes. A carpenter and joiner, native of Shalford, Surrey. Is a football player; also a good crick- eter. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Goddard, Wokingham. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 6. — Aylesbury ( County). — For stealing, 10th ult., two bicycles ( recovered)— R. LEEN, ( supposed false), age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, scar on bottom lip; dress dark grey jacket, dark cord trousers, white muffler ^ grey cap, lace [ boots. Stated he was a blacksmith; believed a native of London. Warrant issued. 7.— Aylesbury ( County).— For stealing a motor car head lamp— FREDERICK PEARSON alias RAILTON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaved, large nose bent; dress, navy blue suit and cap. A na^ tive of Norwich. Served with the yeomanry in South Africa. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Aylesbury. CHESHIRE. 8.— Birkenhead ( County).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque at Bromborough, lst inst., a bay gelding rising 5 years, 16 hands 3 in., white blaze down face, lower lip white, fetlocks white, black mane and tail, and a brown mare, rising 6 years, 16 hands 1 in., slight white blaze on face, both hind and near fore coronet white— ROBERT FALKNER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair very dark, clean shaved, peculiar pinched mouth, London accent; dress, black suit, blue or green overcoat, black soft felt hat. A MAN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 8 in., hair ( frizzy in front) dark brown, slight moustache dark, wearing dark clothes and over- coat, hard hat. In response to an advertisement in a Liverpool paper the owner of the horses made an appointment for their inspection by adver- tiser, who came, accompanied by a veterinary sur- geon, the owner priced the horses at £ 130. Falk- ner said he would consider the matter; later in the day he sent a telegram stating he would purchase them; the above- described man came for the horses and paid for them with a cheque on the Bank of Liverpool, Myrtle Street Branch, which, when presented was dishonoured. Sutherland, Birkenhead. 9.— Crewe ( County).— For larceny ( lodgings) THOMAS EVANS SHUKER, age 33, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue; dress, railway pilot three- quarter length jacket, minus letters on collar, blue overalls with large patch on each knee, dark green cap with large peak. A pipe fitter; native of Audley, Staf- fordshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 10.— Hazel Grove ( County).— For failing to observe the conditions of a recognizance under the Probation of Offenders Act, 1907— THOMAS WHALLEY, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin features, hair brown, eyes blue; " Faith, Hope and Charity" right fore- arm; dress, shabby suit and cap; a pedlar, native of Stockport, is in possession of a certificate issued at Stockport. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dutton, Hazel Grove. CUMBERLAND. 11.— Workington ( County).— For using a certain forged statement on offering himself for entry into H. M. Naval Reserve, 10th January last— WILLIAM THOMAS, age 28, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes dark brown, coat of arms and female right arm, female and W. T. left arm; dress, dirty jacket and vest, cord trousers, cap and clogs. A labourer, native of Walsall Wood, Staffs. Absconded about 8th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hutchinson, Workington. DORSETSHIRE. 12.— Wareham ( County).— For stealing at Affpuddle, 4th inst., a M. C. light roadster, " Chase Popular" bicycle, No. 26495, North Road raised handle bars, roller lever brakes, rubber pedals, 26 in. frame, " Derby" tyres, Palmer pattern frame, lined red and yellow, brown mackintosh tied on back— A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, round ( boyish) face, clean shaved, London accent; dress, pale blue grey jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, - • 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. Jones, Romford. 14. — Southend ( County). — For stealing a silver geneva watch, Swiss make, gold colour, hands, glass chipped at edge; 1 silver curb chain, rather thick, pearl tooth, and a small coin with the Lord's Prayer thereon, attached— FRANK WILLIAMS, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair light brown, very long, eyes ( small) blue, boil right side of face; dress dark striped tweed srit, green tie, green cap with red stripes. A clerk, native of London. Stated he had been employed by a provision mer- chant at Upper Hollowav, also at the skating rinks at Tottenham and Highgate. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. HAMPSHIRE. 16.— Fareham ( County).— For conspiracv to defraud— WILLIAM BROOKS, alias HAVEN- DEN and BROOKEY, Office No. S85214, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, long prominent red nose; usu- ally wears a fawn colour horsey coat ( white pearl buttons), breeches and gaiters. Native of West Bromwich. Warrant issued. Information to Superintendent Carman, Fare- ham. HEREFORDSHIRE. 17.— W e o b I e y ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), a watch ( recovered)— JAMES WII^ LIAMS alias GLOSTER ( see Case No. 13, 24th ult.), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fair, hair and slight moustache light, cast in right eye; dress, light brown dust coat, cord trousers and cap. A tramping labourer, supposed a native of Gloucester; usually works on farms, etc. Is accompanied by a woman who sings in public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Weobley. HERTFORDSHIRE. 18.— Watford ( County).— For non- payment of £ 14 10s. 6d. maintenance arrears and costs— HENRY TALOR, age 38, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- pexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes hazel, flags right arm, ballet girl, sailor and anchor left arm; dress, dark jacket, check breeches, black leggings. A coal hawker or stoker, native of Leverstock Green, Herts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. ISLE OF WIGHT. 1$.— Newport ( County).— For embezzlement HENRY ALLAN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., hair and moustache light brown, eyes ( small, slight cast in one), brown, carries his head forward; dress, blue serge suit, blue overcoat, loose fitting, soft grey hat. A mineral- water manufac- turer's manager. Absconded 25th ult., accom- panied by his wife, age about 38, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light, and three children ( 2 boys and a girl), ages 5 and 3 years and 7 months respectively. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy- Chief Constable, Newport, Isle of Wight. LINCOLNSHIRE. 20.— Llndsey ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Torksey, lst inst., a gold wedding ring; 1 ditto keeper, flowered or chased; 1 six- pence, gilded; 1 ditto, with hole therein; 1 heavy silver albert, curb pattern, silver medal, with plain gold shield in centre of each side, attached; 1 sil- ver albert, swivel missing— ALEC GORDON CAMPBELL, alias CHARLES BATESON, age 28 or 29, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, hair and slight moustache light, eyes grey; dress, dark striped jacket and vest, dark trousers, rubber collar; believed red spotted tie, light cap, water- proof overcoat, several spots of tar thereon, light lace boots. Was employed as a platelayer on the G. C. Railway. Spoke of Doncaster, Grimsby, Ot- ley. and Sheffield. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Welbourne, Lindsey, Lin- coln. 21.— Louth ( Borough).— For stealing 6th or 7th inst., a brown leather purse, containing about £ 9 8s. 6d.— ALBERT WILKINSON, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, thin features, hair black, eyes hazel; dress, old brown suit, dark cap with large peak, pulled down over his eves, lace boots. OXFORDSHIRE. 23.— Witney ( County).— For committing an unnatural offence, lst inst., at Hailey— JAMES VINER, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, scar on forehead, stoops slightly; dress, dark overcoat and cap, cord trousers and vest. A farm labourer, native of Northleigh, Oxon. Warrant issued. , v „ Information to Supt. Smith, Witney. SURREY. 24. — Guildford ( Borough). — For stealing from his lodgings, 6th inst. a small oblong gold brooch, set about 24 small white pearls, initials " H. E. C." in front at bottom, old- fashioned; also a lady's gold ring ( recovered) RINGER, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown; dress, blue costume, light blouse, maroon toque. She took apartments for herself and husband, stated she was commencing work at Boots' Cash Chemists, that she came from Aberdeen, and her luggage was at the station. The same day she pledged the ring in tho name of Rose Grainger. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildford. 25. — Reigate ( Borough). — For leaving his children chargeable to the Reigate Union— AL- FRED JOHN COLE, age 37, height 5 ft. 8f in., complexion dark, hair brown, eyes dark grey, scars on back, tattoo marks on forearms and chest. A labourer, has served in the Army. Warrant issued. 26 — Reittate ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th ult., a bicycle, black enamelled, 25 in. frame free wheel, " Chater- Lea" fittings, 28 in. wheels, 1 tyre new, upturned handle bars, celluloid mud- guards, rat- trap pedals, " Chator- Lea" on head bracket near lamp— GEORGE PEARSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., complexion fair, rather thin face, clean shaved, of smart appearance ; dress green jacket, vest and breeches, brown leggings, greenish grey cap. A stableman, is fond of talk- ing of horse- show rings. On 11th ult., he hired a bicycle, which he sold. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Reigate.
