NOTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in whioh reports are required to be furnished for the compila- tion of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspeoted of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for whioh owners cannot be found, should be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in oharge of ont- stations will forward them direct. PERSONS WANTED. AUCKLAND.— 28th ultimo, that he may be compelled to contribute towards the support of hi3 four ohildren, in- mates of the Auckland Institute for the Blind, George Martin, age fifty- four, height 6 ft. lin., carter, native of England, grey hair, blue eyes, sallow complexion ; a very heavy smoker ; generally wears a grey suit and hard- felt hat. AUCKLAND.— 16th November last, on warrant for theft of 4s. 10d., the money of George Albert Elley, Auckland, James Nicholas Brady, age thirty- seven, height 5 ft. 4Jin., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. PUKEKOHE.— 22nd ultimo, that he may be served with a summons for drunkenness, obscene language, and breach of prohibition order, James Vincent, age twenty- eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, supposed native of New Zealand, hard face, sallow cQmplexion, larrikin appearance, no hair on face, brown hair, restless manner when speaking, had a bandage round one hand ; dressed in dark- tweed suit and grey jockey- cap; fond of drink, and quarrelsome. He is supposed to have come from Wellington. WHANGABEI.— 3rd ultimo, on warrant for failing to pro- vide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Herbert O'Rourke, age twenty- three, height 6 ft., labourer and busbman, native of Tasmania, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, clean - shaved; dressed in dark suit and straw hat. Has a brother a hotel- keeper on the West Coast, supposed Greymouth. HUNTLY.— 28th October last, on warrant for obtaining £ 14 from William Hyde, miner, by falsely representing that he had sold a section at Denniston for £ 317, Alexander Ross, alias A. P. Roscoe, age twenty- eight, height 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in., miner, native of Scotland, strong build, dark- red hair, red moustache only, florid slightly freckled com- plexion, full round face, little finger of left hand recently amputated below second joint; dressed in dark sac suit and hard hat. TE ABOHA. — 2nd instant, on warrant for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, William Meek, age about forty- four, height about 5 ft. 10 in , labourer and gardener, native of England, medium build, dark sallow complexion, clean - shaved except dark moustache, long face and nose, slightly round shoulders ; usually wears dark suit and soft light- felt hat. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, page 279.) GISBOBNE.— 26th ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for sly- grog selling, Joseph J. Murphy, age about twenty- nine, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair ( inclined to curl), ginger moustache only ; dressed in a grey suit with large check. He was last seen riding a dark- brown mare with star on forehead, and had with_ him a yellow long- haired collie dog, going towards Wairoa. WAIBOA.— 6th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wairoa Prison for forty- eight hours in default of paying £ 1 7s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Joseph Poison, age twenty- seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eves, longish nose ; dressed in brown suit and Panama hat ; fond of drink. He is also warned that a distress warrant for £ 10 10?. may be executed on him. WAIPAWA. — 17th ultimo, on warrant for forging a cheque for £ 20, purporting to be sign- d by C. Y. Dally, and uttering same to John Langridge, storekeeper, Eric Oscar Fairey, age twenty- three, height 5 ft. 3Jin., florist and labourer, native of Australia, fair complexion, auburn hair, light- grey eyes, medium nose ( very red at point), effeminato appearance, light active build ; dressed in dark- blue tweed coat, fancy vest, blue check- pattern saddle- tweed pants, and tan boots. He was employed by Mr. Dally, and was known to the storekeeper, who sold him goods to the value of about £ 2 and gave him the balance in cash. [ FEB. 2' 2 MANAIA.— lst instant, that a notice of fine and costs. £ 11 9s., may be served on him for supplying liquor to a prohibited person, James Maxwell, age about twenty- four, height about 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and sailor, native of Ireland, fresh complexion, thin face, slight build, auburn hair, grey eyes ; dressed in dark- tweed suit and cap ; North- of- Ireland accent; fond of liquor. He may be found working about a stable. PALMERSTON NORTH.— 29th November last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £ 1 fine for theft, Albert George Shepherd, age about thirty- eight, height 5 ft. 5 in., painter and labourer, native of Australia, medium build, clean- shaved, sallow complexion, dark- brown hair, grey eyes, man's bust tattooed on right forearm, two upper front teeth missing ; dreEsed in dirty grey suit, hard black hat, and red tie. On the 23rd November he left Otaki accompanied by Emily Jackman, who is wanted that a summons may be served on her. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 471.) WELLINGTON.— 6th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay 16s. a week towards the mainten- ance of his three children, Alfred William Ponting, age fifty, height 5 ft. 4 in., bricklayer, native of England, stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, sandy moustache; well dressed; wears a heavy gold chain, large- and small- link pattern, gold locket pendant with blue stone in oentre. On the 6th ultimo he was in arrears £ 7 4s. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, pageB 346 and 364.) WELLINGTON.— 25th December last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £ 2 10s. fine and costs for being found in a sly- grog shop, Alexander McCrae, age about twenty- nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes, clean- shaved except heavy ginger moustache, speaks with a Scotch accent. WELLINGTON.— 21st ultimo, on warrant for forging the name of H. Webb, solicitor, to a cheque for £ 5, and uttering same to Thomas Page, mercer, Wellington, George Richardson, alias Allan, age twenty- seven, height 5 ft. 9fin., cook, native" of New South Wales, fair com- plexion, light- brown curly hair, grey eyes, medium build; dressed in dark - tweed suit and grey cap. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 44.) He will probably be found attend- ing race- meetings both in the North and South Islands. MOUNT COOK ( WELLINGTON).— 28th ultimo, that he may- be induced to provide for the maintenance of his wife and child, David Linley, age about thirty- one, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., seaman and labourer, native of England, medium build, very frtsh complexion, dark- brown hair, blue eyes ; fair moustache, anchor tattooed on back of one hand ; usually wears dark- brown suit, and cap to match. In- quiry by his wife, 10 Burke Street, Canning Town, England. BLENHEIM.— 24th ultimo, on warrant for forging a cheque for £ 14 5s., and uttering same to W. B. Girling and Co., drapers, Blenheim, Thomas Dockesey, alias Sharp, age about twenty nine, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark swarthy com- plexion, dark eyes, dark- brown hair, clean- shaved, smart active appearance ; dressed in dark- tweed suit and cap, tan boots. Offender obtained a blank cheque from D. Draper, Blenheim, and filled it in for the above amount, and signed the name of D. Munro to it. He is supposed to have left Picton for Wellington on the 26th ultimo, under the name of Sharp. Other charges pending. BLACKWATER.— Joseph Bradley, wanted that a sum- mons may be served on him for being drunk and disorderly ( see Police Gazette, 1911, page 24) : It has been ascertained by Constable E. J. Carroll, Dunollie police, that offender is identical with Frederick Armitage ( see Police Gazette, 1909, page 505, and Discharged Prisoners' Photographs, 1910, page 1). He left Blackwater in November last for Westport, in company with Charles Miller. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 523.) CHRISTCHURCH — 2nd instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his illegiti- mate child, Herbert Barnett, age about twenty- four, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native cif Manchester, England, slim build, dark complexion and hair, grey eyes ; generally wears grey suit with dark stripe, and grey cap. CHRISTCHURCH.— 31st ultimo, that a warrant of distress for £ 1 14s. may be executed on him, Patrick Collins, age about thirty, height about 5ft. 10in., bookmaker, native of New Zealand, slight build, clean- shaved except fair moustache, brown hair, walks as if weak in knees. CHRISTCHURCH. — 25th ultimo, on warrant for obtain- ing £ 5 from Charles Henry Fox, hotelkeeper, Burwood, by means of a valueless cheque, Francis H. Williams, age about twenty two, height about 6 ft. 2 in., manager of a picture- show, native of New Zealand, thin build, dark hair, clean- shaved, receding chin, striking appearance ; dressed in brown- tweed suit with greenish shade. He is accompanied by his wife. Offender's mother was formerly licensee of Barrett's Hotel, Wellington. LYTTELTON.— 31st ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s. s. " Turakina," Herbert Hare, age thirty- three, height 5 ft. 6J in. quartermaster, native of England, slim build, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, brown moustache. A reward of £ 2 will be paid for his apprehen- sion. ASHBURTON.— 28th ultimo, that he may be brought before the Court that an order against him for 5s. a week for the support of his son may be increased to 7s. 6d., Robert Alexander Gillespie, age thirty- three, height 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, black hair, clean • shaved except brown moustache, walks a little lame. In August last he was working on the railway- line near Te Hana, Auckland Dis- trict. OAMARU.—- Wanted on warrant for theft and esoaping from custody, Alexander Walquist. Description: Age thirty- four, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, was clean shaved except small moustache, medium Roman nose; dressed in grey- tweed suit and slouch hat. Offender was arrested on the 22nd ultimo on warrant for theft, and when being escorted from Maheno to Oamaru escaped with the handcuffs on. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, page 375, and 1911, page 46.) DUNEDIN.— 23rd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a swag, value £ 3, the property of Thomas Jerome, labourer, Daniel Spence, alias Grant, alias Curry, age sixty- three, height 5 ft. 6| in., labourer, native of Scotland, swarthy complexion, grey hair, light- brown eyes, broken nose. BINGSLAND.— Between the 1st and 24th ultimo, from the dwelling of WILLIAM GREEN, Perth Street, a 9 ct. gold dress ring ( broken), set with five stones, mbies and pearls, one stone missing ( see Illustration No. 75) ; a greenstone anchor brooch, tips broken off and repaired, rope entwined round; a small gold padlock, clasp broken, " Jim " and date ( sup- posed " 25/ 10/ 95 ") thereon : total value, about £ 3. ANNAT.— Between the 8th and 16th ultimo, from the hut of HAROLD JENKINS, labourer, a grey- tweed coat and a pair of trousers, value £ 3; a cheque on Payne and Co., drawn in favour of complainant, for £ 1 Is. PORT CHALMERS. — Between 28th and 30th November last, from the Royal New Zealand Artillery engine- room, Harrington Point, Taiaroa Heads, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, a military signal telescope, three slides, about 1 ft. long when closed, covered with brown leather, leather cap on each end fastened with a buckle, small chip out of object- glass, case branded with broad arrow; a pair of binocular glasses in case with strap, broad arrow on them, focus- screw loose. Identifiable. DUNEDIN.— Between 23rd and 28th December last, from a hut in the railway- yard, the property of JAMES FREDERICK McIVOR, carpenter, a pair of men's Bal- moral boots, one or two small cuts on uppers, nails in soles ; a pair of dark- tweed trousers ; a ring; and a pillow : value, about £ 1. Identifiable. DUNEDIN.— 29th or 30th Deoember last, between Dunedin and Wellington, the property of JOHN EDWIN COVENTRY, jeweller, a ladies' gold half- hoop five- stone diamond ring, " New Zealand" and " 18 ct." stamped on setting; value, £ 25. Identifiable. Complainant posted the ring, enclosed in a email box, on the second express at Dunedin, addressed to M. Heinimann, jeweller, Wellington. The package arrived apparently in good order, but the ring was missing. OWAKA.— 21st ultimo, from Smith Bros.' verandah, the property of ROBERT LANDRETH, farmer, a gentlemen's new Hudson Special black- enamelled bicycle, No. 48528, rat- trap pedals, back forks joined together by clasp ; value, £ 8. Identifiable. PROPERTY REC0YERED. AUCKLAND.— GREY THORNE GEORGE'S bicycle has been found. ( See Policc Gazette, 1911, page 39.) AUCKLAND.— HELEN CURTIN'S property has been found. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 47.) EDEN TERRACE ( AUCKLAND).— SARAH ANN RICHARDS'S property has been found. ( See Policc Gazette, 1911, page 26.) MERCER.— ROBERT DAVENEY'S gun has been re- covered by Detective Cox and Aoting- Detective Sweeney, Auokland police, and Norman Carl Otto Groll charged with the offence and sentenced to two months' imprisonment. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 26.) TENDI.— FRANK SAUNDERS, theft: Warrant cancelled ( property recovered). ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 37.) WELLINGTON.— MARK COHEN'S watch has been re covered, and Alfred George Morrow arrested for the offence at Sydney, and remanded. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, pages 397 and 476.) MISSING. CHRISTCHURCH. — Since 28th ultimo, Thomas Baxter, age about fifty, height 5 ft. 3 in,, hawker, medium build, brown moustache only, about 8 st. weight; dressed in dark suit; addicted to drink. He was boarding with Mr. Bennett, and left his portmanteau and clothes behind on the above date, when he went for a bicycle ride, and has not been heard of since.
