THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEBIES. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY^, 1911. VOL. XXVIII., No. 2828. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOB OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a r number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police . Supposed a native of Buckingham- shire. Has practised in America. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 7.— Broxton ( County).— For housebreaking and larceny— GEORGE STEVENS, Office No. 1267- 04, age 33, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar forehead and right cheek, nose broken, bracelet tattooed on left wrist and star back of left hand. A hawker; native of Wrexham. Sentenced at Shropshire Assizes, 12th June, 1909, to 12 months imprison- ment for robbery with violence. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hicks, Broxton. DENBIGHSHIRE. 8.— Denbigh ( County).— WILLIAM LEE, Case No. 13, 16th December and Case No. 14, 23rd December last, is identical with HENRY SMITH, Office No. 2039- 02. ESSEX. 9.— Southentl ( County).— For obtaining 2 cheques ( 1 for £ 60, 1 for £ 15) by false pretences, 14th ult. — CHARLES KIMPTON, alias CHARLES KIMPTON SCHROEDER, age about 46, height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, hair ( thin, turning grey) light brown, eyes light blue, pronounced pimple bottom lid of one eye; dress, blue serge suit, grey over- coat, black bowler hat. He advertised in the London papers for a partner in an Estate Agency willing to pay £ 60 to him and place £ 15 in the bank for business purposes, and to receive a salary of £ 1 15s. per week and half the profits. Fre- quents saloon bars and believed well known in Manor Park and Forest Gate districts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. BEDFORDSHIRE. 6.— Bedford ( Borough).— For obtaining food and money by false pretences— TED COLE, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., good build, hair and mous- tache ( bushy at ends) brown; dress, black jacket, dark cord vest and trousers, brown jersey, heavy boots. A navvy; native of Maulden, Beds. Stated he was a ganger on a local sewerage ex- tension. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 10.— Neath ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— OWEN GIBBON EDWARDS, Office No. 2265- 02, age 52, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, scar back left hand and back of right forefinger, mole under left eye, 2 moles back of neck, left leg amputated above knee. Native of Cwmfelin, Carmarthenshire. Has been con- victed at Pontypridd, Swansea, Cardiff, Carmar- then, Pembroke and Taunton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Neath. 11.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a silver Swiss watch, No. 21495, " W. O'Sullivan, Cork," inside; 1 gold pin, set 3 pearls ( 1 missing)— THOMAS GREEN, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., strong build, complexion fresh, hair brown, several front upper teeth missing; wearing dark clothes, white muffler, light tweed cap. A labourer; native of Torrington, Devon. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 12.— Dursley ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., a single case silver watch, makers, " Godfrey & Russell, Stonehouse," on inside case, and a 1- ong silver chain; 2 leather purses, 1 containing about £ 2, other containing a quantity of coppers— JAMES MATHERS, age 16, height 4 ft, 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark; dress, dark grey suit, blue jersey, heavy nailed boots. A native of Glasgow. He booked for Cardiff at 4.23 p. m., 26th ult. He was sent from Hardwicke Reformatory on 19th November last to work on the above farm, and is still under the supervision of the authorities at Hardwicke. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. He was employed as manager of the coal department cf a Co- operative Society. Absconded 16th ult. Ball, Case No. 18, 27th ult. Warrant issued. ( recovered)— JOSEPH JAMES, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, long narrow face, hair ( turning grey) light brown, moustache light, addicted to drink; wearing grey clothing. A car- penter. Travels the country filing saws. Well known in North Wales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Llandrindod Wells. SOMERSETSHIRE. 22. — Bath ( City). — For embezzlement— FREDERICK STOODLEY, Office No. 2730- 01, age 42, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue ( sore very noticeable), scar back of left and lobe of right ear, small coal scar back of left hand, blue spot first joint second left finger. Has been the " deputy" of a common lodging house in the city, a builder's labourer, and a gatherer of rags and bones. Previously con- victed at Taunton and Wells. Warrant issued. SUFFOLK ( West). 23. — IXworth ( County). — For stealing 2 watches, a leather purse and £ 4 10s., at Beyton, 24th December, 1910— HENRY NEWPORT, age 20, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair ( frizzy on forehead) dark; dress, grey suit, dark cap, brown boots. A native of Beyton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Peck, Ixworth. SUSSEX ( East). 24. — Hastings ( borough). — For obtaining money by false pretences— S. J. ROSSITER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., good build, com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, of smart appearance; wearing long dark or blue over- coat, fashionable green soft felt hat, bow behind. He ordered goods to be sent to an address, tendered a cheque on half sheet of notepaper for a larger amount than the order, and received the balance. Is identical with S. G. Pinnington, Case No. 21, 13th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. SUSSEX ( West). 25. — Arundel ( County). — On commitment warrant, for non- payment of 18s. fine and costs imposed for not having proper control over his horse— ERNEST COOPER, age about 26, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown. He travels the country accompanied by three men, wearing white aprons, hawking linoleum, with a two- wheeled spring cart, name on off shaft, drawn by a dark brown horse. 26. — Arundel ( County). — On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 3 6s. 6d. fine and costs imposed for assault— ROBERT REDMAN ( supposed false), age 37, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, left leg wooden. May be found working in livery stables, cab driving, or with horse dealers. 27.— Arundel ( County). — For stealing 20 fowls ( recovered)— JESSE HAWES, age 55, height 6 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel, carries his head forward, is said to be consumptive; dress, brown three- quarter length jacket, large pockets, cord trousers, usually tied below knees, white wrapper, cap, heavy nailed boots. A native cf Littlehampton. Previously convicted at Arundel and Worthing. May be found at common lodging houses or unions. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. White, Arundel. WARWICKSHIRE. 28.— Nuneaton ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— D. T. MAY, alias RICHARDSON, BERRESFORD, DOROTHY BRITTANY and BURTON, age 24, height about 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( deep set) dark, of Jewish appearance; dress ( when she came to Nuneaton), nurse's uniform; when leaving, in a blue tight fitting costume, with light butcher blue gauntlet cuffs, fox colour stole, carried a large brown leather Gladstone bag. While here she pledged a lady's 18- ct. gold lever watch, No. 27622, maker " Thomas J. W. Kirk, Market Place, Hull," also disposed of a George III. sovereign with hole therein. Warrant issued. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 30.— Hull ( City).— For stealing a gold watch, 18- ct., Roman numerals, gilt flowers centre of dial, gilt minute marks, small hole in pointers neai points; 1 9- ct. gold double albert, spring hooks both ends, 2 keys one end, both marked " F. Howe, Witham"; 1 very heavy silver albert, silver medal, shield in centre, right side cracked, attached; 1 silver English lever hunter watch, glass missing, silver pointers, one bent, Roman numerals, silver watch chain, composed of 4 small chains, bar in centre, and £ 2 5s.— JAMES GLASSON, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., com- plexion dark, hair dark brown, small moustache ginger, may be clean shaved, eyes blue, large mouth, thick lips, sharp nose, several upper teeth missing; dress, brown jacket and vest, blue trousers, blue muffler, may be wearing a soft collar, cap, old military boots. An engineer's labourer; supposed a native of Lincoln, llad in his possession a Labour Exchange pass, issued at Hull, 9th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hull. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 31 — Scarborough ( Borough).— For obtain- ing food by false pretences, between 20th and 24th ult.— JOHN WILSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, slightly pock marked, hair and eyes dark, moustache brown, rather large nose; dress, dark jacket and vest, light grey trousers, dark cap, blue tie, grey mili- tary shirt, dark or blue overcoat, brown lace boots, wearing a double gold colour guard, seal attached. Stated he was a ticket collector on the North Eastern Railway. Is also suspected of stealing a lady's silver watch, key wind, white face, gilt figures and pointers, flowers on back of case. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 32.— Wakefield ( County).— For stealing 2 blue lined Wolsey shirts ( 1 new with short sleeves, 1 with long sleeves), at East Ardsley, 14th ult.— WALTER TREEN, alias TRAIN and JACKSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes sore; dress, dark brown coat and vest with small blue and green stripes, grey mixture trousers, grey socks, light yellow lace boots, brown muffler with white spots, black overcoat. A native of Hull. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lawson, Wood Street, Wakefield. 33.— Huddersfield ( Borough).— For failing to report change of residence— Licence- holder JOHN HUGHES, Office No. 1848- 10, age 60, height 5 ft. 8^ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( thin on top), eyes brown, scar back of head. Native of Derby. Has been convicted of burglary, sacrilege, larceny, etc., at Derby, Chesterfield, Retford, Notr tingham, Bedford and Market Rasen. Information to Supt. Trevener, Chesham. ESSEX. 36- Southend- on- Sea ( County).— Committed for trial, 15th inst., at the adjourned Quarter Sessions, Chelmsford, charged with steal- ing a bicycle— STANLEY ROSS DESMOND, alias JENNER, STANLEY THOMAS and HARRY LINDRIDGE, Office No. 204M0, age 22, height 5 ft. 7A in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar on each side of forehead and back of left forefinger, deformed hip. A grocer; native of Plaxtol, Kent. Has been con- victed at Eastbourne, Brighton, Ramsgate, Woking and West Kent Quarter Sessions. Sup- posed wanted elsewhere. Information to Supt. States he is an iron turner; native of Accrington, and has worked at Rochdale and. Information to be given at the City Police Office, 26, Old Jewry, E. C., or at any Police Station. stays 15 to 20 minutes, then leaves, stating he will return in an hour or so.
