T H E GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1910. VOL. XXVII., No. 2810. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TIIE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be charly stated. o. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 85. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear m number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9 The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. . . ,, 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons are only accepted on payment but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should bt prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Summers, High Wycombe. peculiarity of both ears, pock marks right side face; dress, long light overcoat, black bowler hat, blue trousers, boots ( much worn), may be wearing a soldier's blue overcoat. A tramp. Has been convicted of housebreaking at Dorset and Hants. Assizes, and Bucks. Quarter Sessions, and of larceny at Clevedon, Folkestone, Lewes, Swansea, and in London. Warrant issued. THORRINGTON, alias TORRINGTON, STUART, MORGAN, and JAMES, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes ( large) dark blue, tattooed cross near left thumb joint; dress, dark grey jacket suit, fine green stripes, soft tweed hat, button boots. Represents himself as a travelling theatrical manager, advertises for young girls in the Stage newspaper; on girls presenting themselves for em- ployment, he obtains money from them as securities for attending rehearsals, then decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cowell, Braintree. 5.— S Division*— For stealing a " Triumph" motor cycle, 3^- h. p., Reg. No. L. B. 1692, " Triumph" fittings, raised handle bars, steel mudguards, 2 rim brakes, rubber pedals, Palmer studded tyres, Brooks' saddle, free wheel, enamelled black, aluminium tank, Stanley belt, 2 tool bags, engine No. 9518, frame No. 153420— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow dark, hair dark, eyes brown, clean shaved; dress, dark suit, motor cap, of smart appearance. He calls on persons desirous of selling motor cycles, and obtains possession of cycles for the purpose of trying them, and absconds. Warrant issued. 6.— X Division. — For embezzlement — THOMAS BLESSINGTON, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and heavy roous- DORSETSHIRE. 9. — Wareham ( County). — For burglary, 29th October last, and stealing 2 bottles of whisky, bearing labels " John Beggs, Red Capsule, Special Scotch Whisky "; 8 1- ounce packets Wills' " Black Man" shag tobacco; and 8 half- ounce packets " Star" tobacco; 1 large fish basket with name ( unknown) on same, one of the handles mended with string; 2 wooden tobacco pipes ( 1 brown, flat bottom, notch cut in bottom each side of stem, black bone mouthpiece); 1 brown pipe, round bowl, with white bone mouthpiece— THOMAS HALL, alias JAMES POPE, HAINES, JOHNSON, CLARKE, SMITH, FLYNN, ROBERTS, and JONES, Office No. 3319- 02, age 56, height 5 ft. 6J in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue ( cast in each), short beard, 3 scars on crown of head, FLINTSHIRE. 11.— Holywell ( County).— For stealing lead ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, 2 upper teeth prominent, London accent, addicted to drink, may have bruises on face; dress, grey jacket, cord trousers, cap. A native of London. He tramps the country, stays at com- mon lodging houses, also hawks waxed thread with needles attached. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Holywell. HAMPSHIRE. 12. — Aldershot ( County). - For obtaining 4s. 6d. by false pretences, 5th ult.— RICHARD PELLETT, age 23, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, scar centre of fore- head, tattooed heart and arrow right forearm, ring on 3 right fingers; dress, old brown suit and cap, muffler. A labourer. Has in his possession a discharge from the Royal Marines. Calls on persons and states he is an ex- soldier, and is anxious to obtain employment, asks for money to enable him to obtain food until he starts work. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Is fond of speaking of horse racing. A labourer or jobbing gardener. Stated he was a reservist of the Border Regiment. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. OXFORDSHIRE. 14. — Chipping Norton ( County). — For stealing, forging and uttering a cheque for £ 14 5s. on Gillett & Co.' s Bank, 1st ult.— JESSE HURL- STON WEAVING, age 27, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fair, hair ( inclined to ginger) light brown; dress ( supposed) new dark brown suit with dark stripes, new grey overcoat with dark stripes, usual pockets with flaps, light boots. Cox, Chipping Norton. 15.— Banbury ( Borough).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque at an auction sale, 10th ult., a black gelding, " Dave," deformed back bone; 1 bay gelding, " Johnny," old scar on one hock; and a skewbald ( brown and white) mare, " Hetty," old saddle wound— T. PAGE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown; dress, blue over- coat, dark suit, soft brown American hat. Gave address as New Cross Farm, Hendon. Had in his possession a cheque book on the London and Provincial Bank, Ltd., Hendon Branch, Nos. H- Y 21201- 23. Warrant issued. 16. — Banbury ( Borough). — For embezzle- ment— BENJAMIN THOMAS HEWITT, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to auburn) light brown, eyes hazel, wears glasses, cut scar about in. long left side of head; dress, blue serge suit. A clerk and accountant; native of Lewes. Is a member of the local Yeomanry Troop. Had with him a brief bag. Absconded 13th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Banbury. STAFFORDSHIRE. 17.— Newcastle ( Comity).— For deserting his wife and family, at Kidsgrove, 4th October last, leaving them chargeable to the Union— GEORGE EDWARD CARRINGTON, age 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, sharp features, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, small scar on forehead, 4 front upper teeth missing; dress, dark suit and cap, black and white muffler, blue stock- ings. Was employed as a canal boatman; native of Kidsgrove. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biddulph, County Police Office, Newcastle. 18.— Stafford ( County').— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences COOKE, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion, hair, and mous- tache dark; dress, dark reefer suit, dark blue overcoat, velvet collar, dark tie and pin, bowler hat. Had with him a bicycle, green lined. Stated that he was a railway clerk collecting sub- scriptions to furnish a new club house for railway men; also that his father was a station- master. Spendlove, Stafford. 19.— Uttoxeter ( County).— For stealing 5s. 3d. from her lodgings, 7th ult.— ELIZABETH VALE, age 59, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes brown, cut scar upper lip; dress, black blouse and skirt, black jacket, and bonnet trimmed faded heliotrope ribbon. A cook. Previously convicted at Canterbury and Chelms- ford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hodkinson, Uttoxeter. 20. — Stoke- on- Trent ( Borough). — For stealing, at Fenton, 24th ult., a silver English lever watch, out of repair, glass chipped, black numerals and hands, outer case strained, silver albert and silver medal with round gold centre at- tached—. PHILIP BULLOCK, age 23, height about 6 ft., very slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, large nose, end slightly bent; dress, light morning coat, dark brown jacket, dark vest ( low cut), black trousers, black and white check tie, white silk muffler, cap, heavy lace boots A pavior; supposed a native of Small Heath. SURREY. 21 .— Reigate ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, 22nd October, a watch and albert ( re- covered in pledge)— JOHN GIRTON, alias GEORGE CLARK, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slightly round shoulders, hair brown, slight moustache light or ginger. A labourer, is said to have worked in mines in Wales, and may be found employed as a carter. Absconded 22nd October. Information to the Head Constable, Reigate. WORCES TERSHIRE, 22.— Dudley ( Borough).— For burglary 18th or 19th ult., and stealing a large light grey mixture cap; 1 pair brown boots, size 8; and 5s.— FRANK HALL, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, long thin pointed nose, moustache sandy; dress, brown mixture jacket, dark vest and trousers, believed wearing the stolen cap and boots, as he left behind an old pair of lace boots, cap, and pair of military socks. Had the appearance of having served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Speke, Dudley. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 23.— Hull ( City).— For stealing, 19th October, a blue overcoat, velvet collar, double breasted, large black bone buttons, chain hanger; 1 dark grey striped jacket; 1 grey army shirt; 1 black cap, ' Great Scoot" stamped inside; 1 white handled razor; 1 thermometer in white metal case, and £ 1 4s.— GEORGE HAWKSWORTH, alias WILSON, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, star left wrist; wearing the stolen clothing. States he is a native of Birmingham, and was a traveller for the Yorkshire Manufac- turing Credit Clothing Company, Bradford, pre sented a card, obtained deposits and promised to forward the goods in a few days.
