XXVII., No. 2798. 3. .1// communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. o. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6. s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .1 remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 0. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one, side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advaixce, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by ~> le at Parliament Street Post Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THE EDITOR. SPECIAL ATTENTION is called to A MAN, age 19 or 20, slight build, pale face, dark hair; well dressed, speaks French with a foreign accent, describing him- self as the son of Esper E fiend i Shoucair, 1st Drago- man of His Majesty's Consulate General at Beyrout. This man has been endeavouring to obtain money by false pretences from various Diplomatic and£ Con- sular Officers in France and Belgium. He pretends he is expecting money from home and begs assistance until such time as he may be able to communicate with his relations. He canvasses hotels, restaurants, business houses, schools, etc., to supply Bartholomew's Survey Gazetteer of British Isles, also maps pur- porting to be published by G. W. A native of Flintshire or Denbighshire. The animals were trucked at Llanfair on 5th ult., and received at Cross Lane, Man- chester, on 6th ult., signed for by Thomas Higgins, and sold then to a person at Salford. Warrant issued. For leaving BERKSHIRE. 9— Wokingham ( County). his wife and children chargeable to the Woking- ham Union, 4tli September, 1906— WILLIAM FISHER, age 50, height 5 ft, 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and whiskers brown, eyes hazel, scar left of neck. A labourer; native of Wokingham. Warrant issued. A reward of £ 2 will be paid by the Guardians, Wokingham Union, for information that will lead to the arrest of Fisher. Information to Supt. BUCKING HA MS HIRE. 10. — Great Marlow ( County-). — FRED NEALE, Case No. 12, 7th inst., is identical with GEORGE PHILLIPS, alias CONYBEARE and NILE, Office No. 1168- 10 ( ILLUSTRATED CIRCULAR No. 98, Figure 21), age 30, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar left of forehead. An upholsterer; native of London. Has been convicted at Gt. Yarmouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol, Norwich, East Dere- ham and Lowestoft. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycombe. CHESHIRE. 11.— Macclesfield ( County).— For obtain- ing 4s. 6d. by false pretences, at Alderley Edge, 5th inst. ELLEN THOMPSON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark ( turning grey), eyes dark brown; dress, dark hat, jacket and skirt, neat appearance. She called upon a lady, stated she resided at Warrington, and had called in answer to a letter received from a local Registry Office, respecting a situation as cook. She was engaged to fill the vacancy, providing her references were satisfactory. She obtained the above sum for her railway fare from Warrington to Alderley Edge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hoole, County Police Office, Macclesfield. 12. — Nantwich ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— CHARLES SHEEN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair light, inclined to sandy. Has a pimple under one eye; dress, dark jacket and vest, breeches and leggings, cap. A groom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Faruworth, Nantwich. 13.— Northwich ( County).— For embezzling 16s., at Anderton, 3rd inst.— SAMUEL TIBBY, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, sharp features, rather high fore- head, clean shaved, eyes ( sunken) grey, of delicate appearance; dress, navy blue suit, celluloid collar, small bow tie with red spots, grey cap or straw liat, may be wearing a brown overcoat. Calls at houses and states that he is going to start work for some person of influence in the village, and had been directed by the clergy- man to call there for lodgings. Id.— Sittingbourne ( County).— For obtain- ing goods by worthless cheques— HENRY W. LANCASHIRE. 2\.— Skerton ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Carnforth, 18th inst., a pair of brown lace boots, size 7, toe caps, narrow toes, slight break on outside of left boot, rubber heels; 1 gold colour watch chain, curb pattern, bar miss- ing; 1 black fountain pen, gold nib, clasp attached— A MAN, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion rather dark, slight moustache dark, bloated appearance, swollen under eyes, Midland counties accent; dress, dark jacket suit, dark cap, celluloid collar, wearing the stolen boots. He endeavoured to pledge the pen and chain at Lancaster the same morning. Information to Supt. Barnett, Skerton. 22. — Southport ( Borough) — For stealing 18th August last, gas fittings ( recovered)— DONALD McINTYRE, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue, woman, hand and dagger right forearm, hand and rose left forearm, scar over right eyebrow; dress, dark jacket suit, cap. A labourer. Previously convicted of larceny. Was accompanied by his wife, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark. May be found at common lodging houses. 23.— Southport ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 1 lis., August last— GEORGE HAROLD LAZENBY, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair black, clean shaved, wears glasses. A baker; native of Frodsham, Cheshire. Was employed as a vanman. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southport. LINCOLNSHIRE. 24. — Horncastle ( County). — For stealing from a steam cultivating van, at Bucknall, 11th inst., a dark brown suit with green stripes; 1 green cap; 1 white turn- down collar; 1 black tie; 1 pair light lace boots, size 7; 1 silver albert, curb pat- tern, imitation coin covered with glass, one side broken, attached— ALBERT WILKINSON, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved, anchor both arms; wearing the stolen clothing. A native of Louth. Was em- ployed as cook. Has served in the Navy. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Corden, Horncastle. 25.— Spalding ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, at Crowland, 20th ult.— WIL- LIAM JAMES HARRIS, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair, moustache and beard ginger, of quiet disposition; dress, dark grey jacket and vest, dark trousers with green stripes, blue cap, black neckerchief, light lace boots, shabby genteel appearance. SUFFOLK ( East). 30.— Lowestoft ( County).— For obtaining 2s. by false pretences, 11th inst.— A. F. COPPING, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair dark, clean shaved; dress, light suit and cap, black bow tie. A native of Lowestoft. He took lodgings, stated he was a ship's engineer, that his boat was undergoing repairs at Glasgow, that he was ex- pecting his back pay by post, and was seeking relatives, obtained the above amount for the pur- pose of fetching his luggage from the station, and absconded. SUSSEX ( East). 81.- Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing ( servant), Sth inst., 19s. 4id.— WILLIAM JOHN DELANEY, age 29, height 5 ft, 7£ in., com- plexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat. He has served in the 1st Royal Irish Rifles. Warrant issued. 32.— EastbOUtne ( Borough).— For stealing ( servant), 10th inst., £ 8 14s. 11 Jd.— WILLIAM GORDON, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue grey, clean shaved, thin face, walks quickly, of a nervous disposition. A butler. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Eastbourne. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 33.— Sheffield ( City).— For failing to report - Licence- holder WILLIAM DIXON, alias WALTER WILSON, Office No. 1192- 03, age 29, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, large scar under chin, scar over left eyebrow, fleshy mole back of neck, large scar palm left hand. A hawker; native of Sheffield. Sentenced at Sheffield City Sessions, 13th April, 1908, to 3 years penal servitude for assault with intent to rob. Licensed 7th July, 1910. i 197. , Warrant issued. HAMMOND, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) dark brown, moustache dark, peculiar gait; wearing light grey morning coat, dark vest with white spots and fancy buttons, dark overcoat, puce tie, black bowler hat. Had with him a brown Gladstone bag. Travels from town to town hawking packets of lavender, also The Mackenzie Health Brace, and may have in his possession circulars relating to the latter. Absconded 18th inst. Warrant issued. 35.— Barnsley ( Borough). — For embezzle- ment— F. LEVEY, a French Jew, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache sandy, stoops, slightly round shoulders; dress, brown tweed jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, old white straw hat with brown band, black or dark tie. Is fond of stating he has served in the French Army, also active service in Africa. Was employed as canvasser and collector by the British Record Company. Ab- sconded 10th inst. May stay at coffee taverns or cheap Temperance hotels. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Barnsley. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 36.— K Division.— Remanded at West Ham till 26th inst., charged with obtaining musical instruments through the Exchange and Mart— WILLIAM WILLIAM HALL, age 67, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion sallow, hair black ( turning grey), eyes blue; wearing dark overcoat, grey trousers and vest, grey cap. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. DERBYSHIRE. 37. — Renishaw ( County). - Remanded till 24th inst., charged with obtaining money by false pretences— GEORGE EDWARD SHARDLOW, alias GEORGE CARTER and WOLDRAH, age 31, height 5 ft. 4^ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar back of 1st, 2nd and 3rd right fingers; dress, black morning coat, dark vest and trousers, black and white check cap, brown boots. A photographer; native of Smalley, Derby- shire. He took miniature photographs, obtained payment, gave receipts, signed " Elite Photograph Company," but failed to execute the orders. Pre- viously convicted at Ilkeston, Bridgnorth and Keighley. Information to Supt. Andrew, Renishaw, near Chesterfield. Q O PORTRAIT OF A PERSON IN CUSTODY. SUSSEX ( East). 38. — Hastings ( Borough). — Committed for trial at next Assizes, charged with obtaining £ 75 by false pretences— GERTRUDE FLORENCE COX, alias LEWIS, age 28, height 5 ft. 3| in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes ( 1 grey, 1 green); well dressed. She procured a list of share- holders of a Company, wrote to some asking them if they desired to sell any of the shares, and to others if they desired to buy any more, as she had some for sale, thus obtaining the above sum. It has been proved that she was not a shareholder, nor in possession of any shares. Also advertised in the Sunday Times and Exchange and Mart, asking for a loan of £ 15 or £ 20, offering as security a bill of sale on furniture which did not belong to her; in some cases she obtained the amount, but failed to repay same. For the last 10 years she has lived with a man, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache brown., well dressed. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 41. — F Division. — For stealing property described in Case No. 3, 7th inst.— JOHN JULIUS SILVERMAN, alias JOHN YOBB, age 24 or 25 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark, eyes ( small) grey, sleepy appear- ance ; dress, blue serge suit, dark grey soft felt hat, now believed wearing a long overcoat and hard felt hat. A native of Buda- Pesth. Had in his possession a 30- in. leather suit case; 1 do. Glad- stone bag; 1 square leather hat box; 1 round do. collar box, all new. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. LANCASHIRE. 40.— Liverpool ( City').— For contravention of the Aliens Act— SAMUEL BERNSTEIN, alias GROSSMAN, PRICE and " SAMMY THE WRESTLER," Office No. A/ 649, age 27, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes 1907, but has returned, and is liable to arrest without warrant. W., 1854" engraved inside; 1 heavy gold signet, orna- mental front, oval blue stone, crest, lion ram- pant on shield, chevron ill centre with 3 stars thereon, and motto " Fide Fortis"; 1 heavy gold, set large square flat very pale blue stone, fluted front); 1 heavy oval gold photograph locket, opens down centre,, has 3 bars across with fleur- de- lys ends, double raised ridge down centre, church- door pattern; 1 heavy gold chain, snake's head at end with mouth open, showing fangs, swivel broken off other end; watches ( 1 heavy gold hunter, No. 16579, blue enamelled face, white numerals, gold hands and seconds, crest, a leaping stag on front case; 1 heavy gold hunter, " Counouilhou and Francois guai de l'lsle, No. 241, A. Geneve Arquilles, No. 15739, and Quatre trous rubis" inside case, crest, lion rampant, on front case, silver dial; 1 gold hunter, blue enamelled front and back, with white wreath of flowers, & c., there- on, " Patent Lever" inside case, " F. Bovet & Co., Bienne" on movement, " No. 12704" also on move- ment, " 216" on case, white dial, steel hands). All appear to have been many years in the ground.
