All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. • 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious off ences will be inserted ait a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. • 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rani; than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and jor the Tuesday edition not later than Saturduy morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the oaper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering etter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Xcw Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Posi Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forccs should bt prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. When obtaining lodgings he gave his name as Lewis, and that he was working for his father, a contractor on a pipe track. TWO MEN, 1st., age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( brushed up in front) black ; dress, navy blue coat, dark trousers, muffler and cap; 2nd, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair brown; dress, light suit, and cap, soft collar. Dennett, Dorchester. 15.— Weymouth ( Borough).— For non- pay- ment of maintenance arrears— GEORGE WHITE, age 44, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair and eyes ( peculiar expression) brown, clean shaved; usually wears light or grey clothing. A painter and paperhanger. Absconded about the 2nd week in August. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Weymouth. ESSEX. 1 ( j.— DunmOW ( County).— For stealing £ 4, from his lodgings at High Easter, about 7th iiist.-- GEORGE BISHOP, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight moustache dark; dress, dark suit with white stripes, dark tie, lace boots. A photographer's canvasser. Warrant issued. 19.— Cardiff ( City).— For embezzlement— E. J. SMITH, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache dark, eyes blue, walks quickly and swings his arms; dress, blue serge suit, white straw hat, black band. A photo- grapher's canvasser; native of London. Warrant issued. 20.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a number of empty barrels— CHARLES TALBOT, alias MATTHEWS, THOMAS, PHILLIPS and QUICK, Office No. 1074- 10, age 44, height 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( bald in front), eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, which in- clines to right, abscess scar under right ear, small brown mark near left eye, top of 4th finger am- putated and nail destroyed, tiger and woman right, crucifix left forearm. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. 22.— Neath ( Borough).— For stealing 2 bags, a portmanteau and a bicycle ( recovered)— FRANCIS FERRIS, alias SIMMONDS, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., moustache dark, of smart appear- ance; dress, light flannel suit, straw hat with black band, shoes. He took lodgings at a first- class hotel and stated he was a professional cricketer. Had in his possession several pawntickets. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 23. — Gloucester ( County). — For house- breaking, 3rd inst., and stealing 4 gold bracelets ( 1 small curb pattern, with padlock attached, 9- ct.; 1 large pattern, 9- ct.; 1 expanding; 1 set with 3 turquoises); 2 18- ct. gold rings, 3 diamonds in each; 1 garnet ring, set 2 pearls; 1 18- ct. gold ring, set opal and 3 or 4 stones; 1 gold brooch, set 3 stones; 1 gold brooch, engraved; 1 small scroll brooch, diamond in centre; 2 black enam- elled brooches, pearl in centre of each; 1 twisted black enamel brooch, with pearl in centre; 1 15- ct. gold necklet, very fine pattern; 1 gold double neck- let, very fine pattern ; 2 gold lockets ( 1 enamelled blue, other green); 1 plain gold pendant; and from 12 to 18 4d. pieces; 1 long gold guard with small fancy links. ( The lady's 18- ct. gold watch, No. 4506, and the 18- ct. gold ring with diamond in centre and 3 pearls each side, Case No. 52, 16th inst., have been recovered ( plfedgeij)— LIONEL SHAW, alias EDMUND and ALBERT ROW- LANDS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel; dress, green mixture suit with broad brown and narrow green stripes, dark cap, light boots. A native of Wolverhampton. Is a reser- vist of the Royal Marine Artillery. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. i : HAMPSHIRE. 24. — Aldershot ( County). - For stealing 7s. from a gas meter, 16th inst.— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, eyes brown; dress, brown suit and guernsey, boots cut at back and across right toe. Represents himself to be a handcuff king, and performs in the streets. Was accompanied by his wife, age about 23, very short, complexion dark; dress, white blouse, black skirt, blue Tam O'Shanter, a child age about 2 months, and an old brown mail cart. Hawkins, Aldershot. 25.— Alton ( County).— For stealing at Bordon Camp, 17th inst., a Rudge Whitworth bicycle, No. 2044, 3- speed gear, 26- in. frame, enamelled black, plated rims, flat handle bars, inverted lever front brake, back pedalling brake, rubber pedals, and a pair of brown lace boots, size 6— STANLEY ) ARTHUR KING, age 18, height 5 ft. 7£ in., com- plexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey, mole right I groin, scar back of left knee; dress, blue suit, with light stripes, cap, and the stolen boots. Had with him a drab colour suit. Is an absentee from the Royal Field Artillery. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. HER TFORDSHIRE. 26. — hitchin ( County). — On commitment warrant for one month imprisonment, for being drunk in charge of a motor car at Stevenage, 10th ult.— JOHN ALLISON SOUTAR, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache brown; dress, blue serge suit, hard felt hat, with narrow brim. A chauffeur, licence No. 8706 issued by the East Sussex C. C., 12th July, 1910. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hitchin. 27. - Watford ( County).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque on the London City & Midland Bank, Deptford Branch, S. E., 15th inst., at Abbots Langley, a bay gelding, years, hind legs and mark on face white, strong build, drawn in back — G. RICHARDS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, clean shaved; dress, dark overcoat, light trousers, black felt hat. A carman and contractor, Dept- ford Cattle Market, S. E. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. KENT. 28.— Canterbury ( City). — For stealing a postal order for 12s., 20th ult.— ARCHIBALD WHITE ( a corporal in the 9th Lancers), age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, snake and frog left forearm, 2 moles left of neck-; dress, greenish jacket suit, black hard felt hat. A grocer; native of Thorne, Yorkshire. Accompanied by A WOMAN ( sup- posed his wife), age about 22, height a~ bout 5 ft., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, weak eyes; dress, black skirt, long dark navy blue coat, black sailor hat, trimmed 2 bunches of black tulle, brown shoes. A music hall artist. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. LANCASHIRE. 23- Preston ( Borough).- HARRY COLE- MAN, Case No. 26, 16th inst., is identical with1 JOSEPH HILL, Case No. 48, current issue. The stolen motor cycle was left by the thief at at cycle shop in Stockport on 14th inst. for repairs,, and a bicycle borrowed in its place on the pre- text that it was wanted to visit friends at Macclesr- field. Information to the Chief Constable, Preston. 30.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For obtaining goods by false pretences— JAMES HENRY SMYTHE, alias SMITH, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, round features, hair and moustache brown, of smart appearance. A mining engineer. Represents that he is interested in mines in Colorado and Denver. Has been in America a considerable time, visits England periodically. Will endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LINCOLNSHIRE. 31. — Grimsby ( Borough). — For stealing; ( bailee), 10th inst., a " Premier" motor cycle, 1909: model, 3J- H. P., manufacturer's number on frame- " 5107," on engine " 2984," enamelled black, in fairly good condition, tank painted aluminium colour with maroon panel, back tyre Palmer Cord, front tyre Clincher, front rim and back belt rim brakes ( back brake operated by foot), brass horn, " Advance " adjustable pulley, a flange of which has been broken and repaired, " Stanley Darmatine " belt,, had identification plates " E. E. 236 " attached— A MAN, age about 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in.„ complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved; dress,, dark suit, cap, knitted tie, 4 or 5 pieces of sticking plaster on the left side of face. He called at the cycle dealer's shop on several occasions and examined the cycle. On 10th inst. he asked to be allowed to try it. On the form supplied him he- filled in " R. Maxwell, 51, High Street, Derby.'* Was last seen at Hull with the machine. Information to the Chief Constable, Grimsby. MERIONE TH SHIRE. 32.— Bala ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., clean shaved; dress, dark suit, black felt hat, carried a small leather bag. Represented himself as an agent- for a Directory Publisher, Not- tingham. Had with him a copy of Taylor's Buyers' Guide, and gave receipts for money ob- tained on printed forms. Left here 10th inst. NORFOLK. 33. — Docking ( County). — For stealing a bicycle at Hunstanton, 29th ult.— WALTER LETTER ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion swarthy, hair light brown, streaked grey, eyes grey, blotchy face, London accent, lisps; dress, dark brown jacket suit with light stripes, left leg of trousers repaired below knee, slate colour cap, black tie, lace boots. Stated he was a native of Barnet, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lewis, Docking, or In- spector Fuller, Hunstanton. NO TTINGHA MS HI RE. 34.— Nottingham ( County).— For stealing an 18- ct. gold chain, oblong and round links; silver match- box, initials " T. H. T." thereon; 1 red stained wooden box, 6 in. by 4 in., oval top; 1 brown leather purse and £ 1 18s. 6d.— RICHARD HENRY BRIGHAM, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, scar inside left thumb; dress, brown striped jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, dark tie, black hard hat, brown kid gloves, light brown boots, carried an umbrella. Was discharged from the Army for larceny. Has been convicted at Grimsby, Hull, Aldershot and Lincoln. Warrant issued. 35.— Nottingham ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Lowdham, between 2nd and 10th inst.— JAMES SAXON, age 25 to 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair and moustache light, may be clean shaved, wears gold rimmed glasses; dress, navy blue suit. Is a good pianist and singer; stated he belonged to an opera company. JOSEPH PURDIE, age 24- to 27, complexion dark, hair dark brown; dress, dark suit with light stripes, cap.
