All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they arc sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name nf such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8 Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at ence transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tue » day edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, yew Scotland Yard by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) wilt be given on application. 14 All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. ^ KmTQR New Scotland Yard, London, S. BEDFORDSHIRE. 5. — Bedford [ Borough).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a bicycle ( recovered)— FREDERICK GEORGE EDWARD BARTLETT BROWN, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) and moustache very dark, eyes hazel; dress, dark blue suit, cap. An engineer. He left here 18th inst., riding an old bicycle with a big patch on front tyre. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. CARDIGANSHIRE. Q— Aberystwyth { County).— For stealing a quantity of wool— DANIEL MARTIN, alias SHERRY, age 37, height 5 ft. 9i in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, cross, snake, heart and dagger right forearm, American flags left fore- arm; usually dressed as a labourer, may now be wearing green jacket suit, black and white plaid imitation silk muffler, brown plaid cap. A native of Jersey, America.— A MAN, age about 25, height about 5ft. 4 in., complexion, hair and eyes ( peculiar and short sighted) dark; usually dressed as a labourer, may now be wearing a green- ish suit, black and white plaid imitation silk muffler, mixture cap. CHESHIRE. 7. — Oakmere "{ County). — For obtaining credit by fraud at Helsby, between 11th and 15th inst.— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. in., round flabby face, clean shaved, London accent; wearing blue serge jacket, raised seams, dark vest, dark tie, peak cap, lace boots. Left behind a bowler hat, " T. and R. Gilmour, Hanley," stamped inside; and A WOMAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair dark; wearing long dark jacket, red under jacket ( no sleeves), navy blue silk tie, dark green felt hat, with quill across front, small gold brooch with drop pieces. They attend flower shows and athletic meetings, practise palmistry, fortune telling, etc. The man reads the lines of people's hands, the woman writes result on cards. Uses bamboo poles and curtains and wears a kind of Japanese gown of red and yellow. Had with them an old brown tin trunk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Beeley, Oakmere. CORNWALL. 8.— Falmouth { County).— For stealing, 13th inst., a pony, trap and harness ( recovered)— WIL- LIAM RICHARDS, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, mous- tache ( usually waxed at ends) sandy, eyes blue; dress, fawn colour tweed suit, straw hat, brown boots; had with him a pair of cord breeches, brown leather leggings and cap. A painter and paper- hanger; native of London. Had about £ 19 in his possession when he absconded 13th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Nicholls, Falmouth. DERBYSHIRE. <).— Buxton { County).— For stealing, at Ash- wood Dale, 20th inst, a watch ( recovered)— TWO MEN, 1st, age 22 or 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion pale, hair light, clean shaved ; 2nd, age 22 or 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair light, clean shaved; both wearing khaki uniform; one had a star oil cap. Stated they were on furlough from London, each riding a bicycle with parcel fastened to carrier. Information to Supt. James, Buxton. 10.— Renishaw { County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Eckington, 16th inst., a heavy silver English lever watch, No. 6721, cream coloured dial, and Is. 3d.— TOM STANLEY ( sup- posed false), age 29, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue, slight brown scar on right cheek; dress, brown jacket and vest ( too large), tight fitting trousers, light lace boots. Warrant issued. 11.— Renishaw County).— For stealing 23rd June last, an overcoat ( recovered)— HARRY STREET, age about 45, height 5 ft. 2 in., com- plexion florid, hair and moustache sandy, stoops when walking; dress, blue jacket and vest, light cord trousers, white neckerchief, light cap, old brown boots. Native of Dronfield. Warrant issued. 12. — Renishaw ( County). — For indecent assault, 27th June last— LIPMAN HYMAN, a Jew, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and moustache dark, large nose, very thick lips, pimply face; a mackintosh maker, is well knowyn in Manchester. DORSETSHIRE. 13 — Beaminster { County).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Bridport Union— WILLIAM ROBERT HUSSEY, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion dark, hair ( thin in front) dark brown, loustache dark, 2 birds and rabbit tattooed on back, coat of arms, King and Queen on chest, ship, & c., left upper arm, actresses left forearm, sock tattooed on each leg; dress, blue suit and cap. A labourer. Native of London. Is a reservist of the East York- shire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. King, Beaminster. South Shields ( Borough).— For house- breaking, 15th inst., and stealing a lady's 18- ct. dress ring, set 5 diamonds, claw setting; 1 do. gold wedding ring; 1 do. converted into a dress ring, " D. J. to J. R. J." thereon ; 1 do. gold dress ring, set opal and red stones; 1 do. gold dress ring, very thin, set pearls and red stones; 1 15- ct. bracelet, chased on top, clasp fastening, safety chain ( re- paired with white cotton) attached; 1 gold chased oval locket; 1 masonic jewel, gold and enamel coat of arms, Hedworth 2418" thereon; 1 15- ct. square and compass, " Presented to Brother i). Jamieson, P. M., by the brethren of the Hedworth Lodge, 2418, South Shields, in appreciation of his services as W. M., and as a token of their personal esteem, February 27th, 1908," thereon; 1 large amethyst brooch, set in gold border, thistle pat- tern; and a pair of knot pattern gold shirt front studs— HARRY BLACKBURN, alias HARRY FIRTH, Office No. 259- 09, Case No. 44, 19th inst., age 24, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, deep scar root of nose, Sarah, cross and blue dots left forearm : dressed in dark jacket suit, straw hat, collar and tie. A waiter; native of Leeds; and A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, round face, fair mous- tache ; dressed in dark mixture tweed jacket suit, tweed cap, appeared to be carrying an overcoat over one arm. These men were seen to ring the front door bell of the house where the theft was committed shortly after the occupants left. Information to the Chief Constable, South Shields. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 21.— Treharris ( County).— For stealing at Caerphilly, a gold signet ring, set black stone with red spots, and 14s.— FREDERICK CHARLES JARVIS, alias FREDERICK ALEXANDER JERVIS, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey. A fitter; native of Newport, Mon., or Merthyr Tydfil. Previously convicted at Pontypool, Newport, and Worcester. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gill, Treharris. ESSEX. stealing a lady's 16.— Chelmsford ( County).— For from his lodgings at Stock, 17th inst., silver open Geneva watch, flowered dial, and £ 1 3s. SMITH, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey, mouth swollen right side, scar right side of face; dress, brown suit with green stripes, fawn colour cap with brown stripes, green tie. A ship's steward; native of Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 17 - Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 6th inst.— A. BROWN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion pale, thin face, hair dark, eyes ( believed) blue; dress, black skirt, cream colour Alpaca | jacket, light hat. Stated she was an agent for J. G. Graves of Sheffield. Warrant issued. lS.— Southend- on- Sea ( County). — For obtaining a banker's cheque and order for £ 1 5s., by false pretences, 18tli instj— J. WILLS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 in. complexion pale, thin face, hair red, moustache light ginger, of delicate appearance; dress, grey tweed jacket suit, black bowler hat. Carried a small black hand bag. Calls at schools and colleges, represents himself as a traveller for a well- known advertising firm, ob- tains money under the pretence of advertising the school on a map. Warrant issued. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. 19.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing £ 6 10s., 28th ult.— DAVID BANNISTER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., good build, hair and moustache dark, of good address and smart appear- ance ; dress, blue Melton overcoat, dark blue ribbed fancy vest, dark trousers, black bowler hat. Had with him two brown leather sample bags. Is be- lieved identical with David Bannister, Case No. 23, 26th November, 1909. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 22.— Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing from a bedroom, 11th inst., a gold keyless repeater watch, No. 21023; 1 double gold watch chain, curb pattern, silver sovereign case and latch key attached; 1 gold signet ring, with crest of Griffin's head, " Dominus Providebit" around; 1 small string bag purse, with " Jerusalem " and " Jericho" worked thereon, containing a few coppers— WILLIAM HENRY BAKEWELL, Office No. 1189- 08, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, bust of a woman at back each hand, snake, tree, woman in tights and head of Buffalo Bill right; sailor, " Elizabeth Bakewell," flower and bracelet left forearm. A fitter; native of Hanley. Has been convicted at Salford Hundred Sessions, Hanley, Walsall and Warwick. Is a begging letter ini postor. 23.— Cheltenham ( County).— For embezzle- ment— GEORGE PEARCE, age 20, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, eyes brown; dress, navy blue jacket and trousers, fancy vest, blue and white stripes, white straw hat with blue band, lace boots, had with him a green cap. Believed a native of Peterborough. Formerly employed as a manager of a boot busi- ness. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Selwood, Cirencester. 25.— Staple Hill ( County). — For stealing leather boot uppers ( recovered)— GEORGE AMOS, alias PARGY, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion pale, freckled, hair red, eyes light; dress, green lounge suit, may be wearing a fancy vest and carrying a brown mackintosh coat, grey cap, brown boots. Cooke, Staple Hill. 26.— Bristol ( City).— For failing to join his ship after negotiating an advance note— JOHN DAVIS, age 44, height 5 ft. 10 in., good build, stoops slightly, complexion fresh, hair and small moustache brown, addicted to drink ; dress, blue serge suit and cap, black muffler. Is fond of diving off pier heads. A ship's donkeyman. Absconded 9th inst. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. A native of Newton Abbot, Devon. Represented himself as a civil engineer; also a specialist of diseases. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. id. — Leominster ( County). — For house- breaking and stealing, 1st June last, at Risbury, a grey reefer jacket; 1 dark fustian do.; 1 pair fine cord trousers; 1 tweed vest; 1 blue neckerchief, 1 pipe; 1 tape measure, 60 ft. long, ring broken off end, brass case— JAMES ATTWOOD, alias JACK JENKINS, age 36 to 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., omplexion swarthy, hair and moustache dark; dress, supposed stolen clothing, dark cap, nailed boots. WRIGHT, age about 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh ( reddish), hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes ( blind right) grey; dress, navy blue serge suit, white straw hat, blue tie. A seaman; born in India.— WILLIAM EELE, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue. An outdoor porter; native of Fulham, London. KENT. 81.— Chatham ( County).— For stealing from a hotel, 20th inst., a gold bracelet, horse- shoe pattern, set cat's eyes and pearls; 1 lady's silver watch, black face and figures; 1 do. blue watch, mounted as a brooch; 1 old- fashioned gold signet ring, set black flat stone; 1 gold twin brooch ( cat and mouse); 2 brilliant brooches; 1 cut glass powder box, silver plated top; 1 Ecru cream blouse EVANS, age about 21, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair dark brown; dress, black skirt, white blouse with Peter Pan collar, large white hat trimmed black ribbon and flowers, black shoes with four straps. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Neaves, Chatham. 32. — Maidstone ( Borough). — EDWARD MORRIS, Case No. 98, 19th inst. Found drowned. LANCASHIRE. 83.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 12th and 19th inst.— WILLIAM MORRIS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, cast in right eye, Scotch accent; dress, black coat, grey striped trousers, muffler, grey cap, heavy lace boots. Stated he came from Edinburgh and had obtained employment as a fitter with a local firm. Warrant issued. For stealing a dark grey tweed raincoat and obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 20th and 24th inst.— McDONALD, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., round features, hair black, clean shaved; Liverpool accent; dress, dark suit, celluloid collar, red tie. Stated he was a Scotchman, and represented him- self as a pianoforte tuner. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LINCOLNSHIRE. Si— Grimsby ( Borough).— For stealing £ 96 6s.— ALFRED HOLLINGSWORTH, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, rather thin face; dress, greenish striped suit, green cap, carried a nearly new fawn coloured mackintosh, " The Walford" at back of collar also a tab with " Lawson & Stockdale" thereon. A clerk. Absconded 17th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Grimsby. OXFORDSHIRE. 35— Witney ( County). — For stealing, 18th inst., a blue serge suit; 1 black suit; 1 water- proof collar; 1 brown leather collar case; 1 do. brush and comb case; 1 night shirt; 3 silk hand- kerchiefs; 1 box containing 40 cigars; 1 pair brown boots; 2 new ties; 2 pairs pants; 1 umbrella; 1 Gladstone bag; 1 pair dark trousers; 2 silver double case watches; and 2s. 6d.— ALBERT TOWNSEND, alias SIMMON, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion pale, eyes dark, hair and moustache dark brown; dress, grey suit, white straw hat, carried an ebony stick. WILTSHIRE. 75.— Swindon ( County).— 19th inst., by shop- breaking, a pair of boots, size 7£, punched golosh, moccasin brand, No. 13 XI., stamped on inside, and 4s. 6d.; 6 Excelda handkerchiefs, 1 flannelette shirt, 1 cap, 8 studs, 1 tweed suit, size 10, fit small man, 2 pairs of sock suspenders, and 2s. 6d.; suspicion is attached to two men— 1st, age about 30, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion sunburnt, eyes dark brown, slight sandy mous- tache; dress, square cut jacket and vest, light trousers, dark stripe, dark cap, thick boots. 2nd, age about 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., moustache fair; dress, dark brown jacket and vest, pepper and salt colour trousers, dark cap, dark muffler; hands of both men are freckled and fingers very much stained with tobacco.
